How collaboration could contribute to make Catalan journals visible on the Internet?

Cooperation between libraries is a universal language spoken in different dialects. In 1996 the libraries of the state-funded universities and the National Library of Catalonia (Spain) formed the Consortium of Academic Libraries of Catalonia (CBUC) to act as a channel for cooperation. The organization and activities of CBUC are an example of how this universal language has been adapted to the specific characteristics of the Libraries of Catalonia. Catalonia is an autonomous region of Spain with 7 million inhabitants with its own language, history and traditions and with a strong feeling of own identity that facilitates the cooperation. Thanks to this (and also to the hard work of the member libraries), since then, CBUC has created a union catalogue, an interlibrary lending program, the Digital Library of Catalonia, a cooperative store, different cooperatives repositories and other cooperation programs. One of these cooperatives repositories is RACO (Catalan Journals in Open Access, www.raco.cat) where can be consulted, in open access, the full-text articles of scientific, cultural and scholar Catalan journals. The main purpose of RACO is to increase the visibility and searches of the journals included and to spread the scientific and academic production published in Catalonia. This purpose makes specific in three aims: encourage the electronic edition of Catalan journals; be the interface that allows the whole search of all the journals and provide the instruments for its preservation. There are currently 244 journals in RACO, that includes more than 85.000 articles (80% in OA) from 50 publishing institutions. Since it got into operation it has had more than 4 millions of queries. These 244 journals offer the full-text of all the published issues. Nevertheless, some journal can have a delay between the introduction of the table of contents and the full-text for the recent issues. From 2005 we have a plan of retrospective digitization that has allowed to digitize more than 350.000 pages of back issues. The RACO repository works with the open source program OJS (Open Journal Systems, http://pkp.sfu.ca/ojs/) and uses Dublin Core Metadata and the interoperability protocol created by Open Archives Initiative (OAI) which allows to increase the visibility of the articles published in journals offering oneself together with other international repositories.

A la recerca de l'occità: Tres dialectes del nord

Treball de recerca realitzat per un alumne d'ensenyament secundari i guardonat amb un Premi CIRIT per fomentar l'esperit cientí­fic del Jovent l'any 2009. El tema d'aquest treball és la llengua occitana, alhora dividit en un estudi sociolingüístic (situació actual de l'occità) i en un de dialectològic (estudi fonètic i morfològic del nord-occità). Tot seguit d'una introducció en què es parla de la relació de l'autor del present estudi amb el món de l'occià al llarg de quatre anys, es presenta la situació de la llengua tenint sempre present el seu context: història, estats on és pròpia, situació d'aquesta en les diferents regions en què es parla, qüestió del nom, problemàtica de l'estandardització, etc.. Es tracta de la greu situació en què es troba als tres estats en què és parlada, tot intentant d'explicar-ne els motius. A més a més, es fa referència a les distintes tendències quant a la normativització: estandardització rígida o flexible a la mena de l'''euskara batua'' o basc unificat. D'altra banda, en consonància amb l'objectiu de la preservació i valoració de la riquesa dialectal de l'occità, es fa una presentació sobretot fonètica (tot i que també es fa un tastet de morfologia) dels tres dialectes nord-occitans (alvernès, llemosí i vivaroalpí), que són els menys coneguts i estudiats, la qual cosa ha permès de ratificar la unitat del nord-occità.

La carta de poblament de Xodos : documentació, història i usos socials del català al País Valencià des de l'edat mitjana fins al segle XX

Edició filològica de la carta de poblament de Xodos (l'Alcalatén, País Valencià) a partir d'un manuscrit inèdit de 1625, conservat a la mateixa població. Inclou un estudi introductori que fa especial referència a aspectes relacionats amb la Història de la llengua catalana. Pretén aportar dades que reforcen la tesi que la catalanitat lingüística i l'adscripció dialectal de l'Alcalatén depenen, sobretot, de les repoblacions posteriors i no pas del repartiment territorial medieval; mostrar l'evolució del binomi llengua i poder en les relacions entre administradors i administrats al País Valencià; i estudiar els avanços i els retrocessos de l'ús públic del català.Altres objectius són: datar correctament la carta de poblament; relacionar l'ús de les llengües (aragonès, castellà, català i llatí) amb el context històric i sociocultural de cada època; il·lustrar la llarga presència del llatí en el llenguatge administratiu; i posar a l'abast del públic la documentació estudiada.

Lo pallarès de la Vall Fosca : Estudi dialectològic de la parla pallaresa

Aquest treball vol ser una petita contribució al coneixement del pallarès, un dels dialectes catalans que conserva més trets originaris i que no ha patit encara gaire el procés d'estandardització, ben comú a la resta de territoris de parla catalana.

Traditional cockney and popular London speech

This paper gives a full description of the phonetics and phonology of Traditional Cockney and Popular London speech, treating these varieties as constituting a continuum rather than two separate dialects. Exemplification of the vowels, diphthongs and consonants is provided, both in isolate words and in connected speech, along with their range of variation. The frequencies of the vowels have been charted on the basis of the pronunciation of three elderly male speakers. Regarding the consonants, there are detailed observations on the features typically associated with the linguistic varieties examined: strong aspiration of unvoiced plosives, glottalization, H-dropping, L-vocalization and TH-fronting. A section on prosody provides coverage of lexical stress, rhythm and intonation. The paper takes into account up-to-date research on these phenomena, but does not deal with the most recent vowel shifts, some of which form part of Multi-cultural London English.
