Looking beneath Dalí's paint: non-destructive canvas analysis

A new analytical method was developed to non-destructively determine pH and degree of polymerisation (DP) of cellulose in fibres in 19th 20th century painting canvases, and to identify the fibre type: cotton, linen, hemp, ramie or jute. The method is based on NIR spectroscopy and multivariate data analysis, while for calibration and validation a reference collection of 199 historical canvas samples was used. The reference collection was analysed destructively using microscopy and chemical analytical methods. Partial least squares regression was used to build quantitative methods to determine pH and DP, and linear discriminant analysis was used to determine the fibre type. To interpret the obtained chemical information, an expert assessment panel developed a categorisation system to discriminate between canvases that may not be fit to withstand excessive mechanical stress, e.g. transportation. The limiting DP for this category was found to be 600. With the new method and categorisation system, canvases of 12 Dalí paintings from the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí (Figueres, Spain) were non-destructively analysed for pH, DP and fibre type, and their fitness determined, which informs conservation recommendations. The study demonstrates that collection-wide canvas condition surveys can be performed efficiently and non-destructively, which could significantly improve collection management.

The lowering of the DP value impliesa lower mechanical strength of the textile (Scicolone, 1993), and thus this parameter canbe used to monitor degradation. Knowing these two parameters can, therefore, be veryinformative regarding the condition of the canvas support.

Amazon marca la diferència entre minorista online i el model de negoci tradicional.Volem entendre què ha fet que una empresa tan similar a la seva competència hagi tingut un creixement exponencial de les seves vendes, i quin ha estat el procés que s’ha seguit per arribar a tenir el prestigi actual.Metodologia : El desenvolupament d’aquest treball segueix la pauta de les 4P del màrqueting mix proposades per Philip Kotler al 1972: Producte, Preu, Promoció/Comunicació i Distribució (Product, Price, Place and Promotion). Hem escollit aquest marc teòric ja que al divideix de manera coherent tots els factors importants que volem tractar.Utilitzarem els coneixements adquirits a diverses assignatures (Creació d’empreses i Màrqueting de Serveis entre d’altres), per aprofundir en l’estudi de cada un dels quatre apartats principals. En cada apartat estudiarem els factors més importants relacionant-los amb diverses teories estudiades durant aquests quatre anys (com per exemple la teoria de la llarga cua) i profunditzant en conceptes claus com el CRM.Finalment, a les conclusions presentarem també un canvas que resumeixi breument els factors d’èxit principals i més importants en aquesta empresa, composant tots ells el model de negoci d’Amazon.

Una pintura d'Antoni Viladomat i Manalt (1678-1755) a Manresa : l'Assumpta de Santa Maria de l'Alba

This painting with an exceptional iconography of the Assumption of the Virgin with All the Saints, was saved from a altarpiece in the church of Santa Maria de l'Alba in Manresa, which was burnt during the Spanish Civil War. The article attributes this painting to Antoni Viladomat i Manalt (1678-1755), one of the most relevant figures in the Catalan artistic scene in the 18th century, and it dates it to the latter years of his extensive artistic career. An analysis of the work shows that the Catalan painter incorporated some figurative elements that he borrowed from an engraving of the Swiss engraver, Jakob Frey (1681-1752), interpreted from a canvas of the Italian painter Sebastiano Conca (1680-1764). This helps to relate the canvas of the Barcelona painter-based on his previous figurative work with high Roman baroque- to the new proposals of the so-called Roman barrochetto. In addition the study hopes to offer the reader an artistically cultural view of Antoni Viladomat, openly concerned by the novelties that constantly reached Catalonia by means of the engravings

El soporte de tela en la Pintura Europea de los siglos XVI, XVII y XVIII

El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar el origen y consolidación del soporte de lienzo en la pintura europea de los siglos XVI, XVII y XVIII. Identificar las principales fibras que lo componen y realizar una clasificación de los distintos ligamentos empleados por los pintores del momento, con la ayuda de imágenes y fotografías de obras de arte. Así mismo, trataremos de analizar, a través de la bibliografía consultada, cuáles eran los diferentes modelos de bastidores utilizados y definir sus posibles alteraciones. De este modo, podremos ver la gran relevancia que tuvieron los diferentes tipos de telas en el campo de las técnicas artísticas, especialmente desde que se generalizó su uso en los siglos XV y XVI.

Una nueva obra atribuida a Urbano Fos (Arnes, Tarragona, c. 1615-Valencia, 1658)

Urbano Fos fue uno de los mejores representantes del Barroco valenciano. En este estudio atribuimos a su pincel un lienzo inédito de gran calidad. Se trata de una magnífica representación de San Pascual Bailón. Con nuestra investigación hemos demostrado sus filiaciones técnico-artísticas y resaltado aquellos aspectos por los que se popularizó su pintura.
