“Transformar les condicions de vida sense incidir en el sentit vital no serveix per a res”. Entrevista a Salvador Busquets

Salvador Busquets ha estat disset anys director d’Arrels Fundació, entitat dedicada a acompanyar persones en fase consolidada d’exclusió. No té formació teològica ni filosòfica, és llicenciat en Econòmiques, i va desenvolupar la seva activitat professional en el sector privat fins a l’any 1995, abans d’incorporar-se a Arrels Fundació. Actualment és el coordinador de totes les entitats d’acció social de la Companyia de Jesús a Catalunya. L’hem convidat a participar en la classe de l’assignatura “Diàleg interreligiós i acció social” que fan els estudiants de quart curs de Treball Social i Educació Social de la Facultat Pere Tarrés de la Universitat Ramon Llull. Entre tots tenim diverses qüestions que li volem plantejar, i així encetem el diàleg.

'Making Science Understandable'. Divulgació científica i mediació editorial: el cas de The Wisdom of the Body de Walter B. Cannon (1871-1945)

The present paper aims at an historical reconstruction, in the framework of the publishing industry in the years between the two World Wars, of the role played by the publisher William W. Norton in the genesis, published in 1932, and new edition in 1938, of Walter B. Cannon"s book The Wisdom of the Body. With the analysis of this case study, we aimed at contributing to the current criticism of the «dominant view», which tries, in an uncritical manner, that scientific popularization follows an ineluctable, continuous and linear evolution.

JXTA-Overlay P2P Platform and Its Application for Robot Control

The design of an efficient collaborative multirobot framework that ensures the autonomy and the individualrequirements of the involved robots is a very challenging task. This requires designing an efficient platform for inter-robot communication. P2P is a good approach to achieve this goal. P2P aims at making the communication ubiquitous thereby crossing the communication boundary and has many attractive features to use it as a platform for collaborative multi-robot environments. In this work, we present the JXTA Overlay P2P system and its application for robot control. Since JXTAOverlay is able to overcome Firewalls, Routers and NATs, it is possible to control end-devices in a WAN without changing the network security policy. We used JXTA-Overlay for the control of robot motors. We evaluated the proposed system by many experiments and have shown that the proposed system has a good performance and can be used successfully for the control of robot.

L’arquitectura termal a Tàrraco i el seu territorium: reflexions sense resposta

Se trata de una reflexión global y actualizada de los diversos aspectos que configuraron la cultura termal de Tarraco y de su territorium. Más allá de los análisis arquitectónicos y cronológicos, los restos arqueológicos deben considerarse el testimonio de una evolución económica e ideológica y el reflejo de una sociedad que tuvo, en las actividades termales, el principal espacio de vida ciudadana. La comprensión de este fenómeno es aún un objetivo incompleto que requiere desarrollar proyectos científicos para conocer los datos de una realidad arquitectónica fundamental en la escenografía de la ciudad y en los asentamientos rurales.

Linear transceiver design in nonregenerative relays with channel state information

This paper deals with the design of nonregenerativerelaying transceivers in cooperative systems where channel stateinformation (CSI) is available at the relay station. The conventionalnonregenerative approach is the amplify and forward(A&F) approach, where the signal received at the relay is simplyamplified and retransmitted. In this paper, we propose an alternativelinear transceiver design for nonregenerative relaying(including pure relaying and the cooperative transmission cases),making proper use of CSI at the relay station. Specifically, wedesign the optimum linear filtering performed on the data to beforwarded at the relay. As optimization criteria, we have consideredthe maximization of mutual information (that provides aninformation rate for which reliable communication is possible) fora given available transmission power at the relay station. Threedifferent levels of CSI can be considered at the relay station: onlyfirst hop channel information (between the source and relay);first hop channel and second hop channel (between relay anddestination) information, or a third situation where the relaymay have complete cooperative channel information includingall the links: first and second hop channels and also the directchannel between source and destination. Despite the latter beinga more unrealistic situation, since it requires the destination toinform the relay station about the direct channel, it is useful as anupper benchmark. In this paper, we consider the last two casesrelating to CSI.We compare the performance so obtained with theperformance for the conventional A&F approach, and also withthe performance of regenerative relays and direct noncooperativetransmission for two particular cases: narrowband multiple-inputmultiple-output transceivers and wideband single input singleoutput orthogonal frequency division multiplex transmissions.

Informàtica sense computadors

Aquesta memòria descriu un procés d’ensenyament dels conceptes importants de l’informàtica a nois de 10-12 anys a partir de activitats divertides i senzilles sense utilitzar ordinadors. Es pretén cobrir una necessitat actual que és fomentar l’ interès per a l'enginyeria, ja el número d’estudiants interessats decreix a nivell mundial. A partir d’un projecte pedagògic paral·lel en anglès es va subtitular en català el vídeo de CSUnplugged, associació australiana que aporta les idees i propòsits per la creació del nostre. Aquesta subtitulació junt amb les activitats que al vídeo es representen han fet un projecte educatiu que creua etapes i coneixements.

Viabilitat i rendiment d'un sistema d'informació geogràfica en dispositius mòbils per realitzar càlculs LCP en zona de muntanya sense connexió de xarxa

The aim of this research paper is to present a macroscopic study about the feasibility and the efficiency of mobile devices in computing Least-Cost Path (LCP). This kind of artifact must work in off-line mode and must allow to load data from a mountain zone like digital terrain models and meteorological data.The research strategy has two steps:- First of all, we need to identify the set of software components in order to implement them inside the IT artifact. This set of components should have to be able to do LCP calculations, visualize results and present a well adapted human interface. The main goal of this first steep is to demonstrate the feasibility of a mobile geographic information system by following the ¿Design & Creation¿ research strategy.- In a second time, the goal is to evaluate the reliability and usability of this IT artifact by an ¿Experiments¿ research approach. In this step we want to characterize the behavior of the artifact in terms of fidelity and LCP process speed. This evaluation will be carried out by some external users.During the reading of this paper, we will see that this kind of geographic information system (the IT artifact) has the minimal requirements needed to carry out LCP calculations in mobile devices although it has several limitations and constraints in terms of useability and reliability. We will point out qualitative and quantitative elements related to the IT artifact performances while doing this kind of computations.

Disseny d'una nau bioclimàtica sense ús determinat, ubicat al Polígon Industrial "Camí dels Frares" de Lleida

L'objecte del present projecte tècnic és la descripció de la climatització d'una nau industrial bioclimàtica, fent ús de sistemes passius i si fos necessari, de sistemes actius. El concepte de bioclimàtic procedeix de bios-vida i clima - orientació. El propòsit d'aquest disseny arquitectònic és que des del punt de vista energètic permeti que la nau mantingui un nivell de confort tant en hivern com en estiu, aplicant una sèrie de criteris de disseny a fi d'utilitzar els elements constructius i funcionals propis de l'edifici per tal d'aconseguir un bon control del seu comportament energètic.

Memory Revisited in Julian Barnes's The Sense of an Ending

An accumulation of years brings with it an accumulation of experiences. The revision of such experiences usually becomes more recurrent after retirement, a transition time from one period of life to another and, as such, a time in which we, human beings, have a tendency to take stock of our lives. This is actually one of the main issues present in Julian Barnes's last novel The Sense of an Ending (2011). When the main protagonist, a retired man quite comfortable and contented with his present life, receives an unexpected inheritance from the mother of a girlfriend from his university years, he is forced to track down a part of his life that he had left at the back of his mind a long time ago. As he explains his story, the protagonist and narrator of the novel raises a number of questions related to the quality and function of memory as one gets into old age. He experiments the unreliability of memory and questions to what extent memory is constructed through the remembered emotions that invaded him over that episode of his life rather than through the events as they actually took place. On the other hand, the act of revisiting and revising that specific episode, brings with it feelings of guilt and remorse as the protagonist realises that his past acts were not as noble as he remembered them to be. However, these acts are part of the past and they cannot be changed; thus, another question that the novel raises is how to account for those actions of which one does not feel proud and, more importantly, how to manage those bad memories as one gets older.

Accions sense vot en l'empresa familiar

L'article 98 del Reial decret Legislatiu 1/2010, de la Llei de Societats de Capital (TRLSC), brinda a les societats anònimes la possibilitat de créixer a partir d'un nou mecanisme de finançament, les accions sense vot. Aquesta classe d'accions, van ser introduïdes de la mà del sistema anglosaxó en ple s. XIX, amb la vocació d'aportar finançament extern a les societats mercantils, sense afectar al control de les mateixes. Aquest mecanisme, d'escàs ús en general, no ha passat desapercebut per a l'empresa familiar. L'objectiu d'aquest article, és analitzar i determinar el grau d'utilitat i servei que suposen les accions sense vot per a l'empresa familiar, com a eina per facilitar el seu finançament i alhora creixement.

Making Space for Festival 1400-1700. Interactions of Architecture and Performance in Late Medieval and Early Modern Festivals

Las relaciones entre actos festivos y espacios arquitectónicos, y las modalidades con que las ceremonias cortesanas llegaban a modificar los centros urbanos y las residen- cias palaciegas, han sido los temas principales del congreso internacional Making Space for Festival, 14001700. Interactions of Architecture and Performance in Late Medieval and Early Modern Festivals, que tuvo lugar del 21 al 24 de marzo de 2013 en el Palacio Pesaro-Papafava de Venecia, residencia de la Universidad de Warwick en la Laguna. La Society for European Festivals Research (SEFR), entidad vinculada a esta universidad, ha promovido el encuentro junto con la Red PALATIUM financia- da por el Research Networking Programme de la European Science Fundation (ESF) (2010-2015), dedicada al estudio de las residencias palaciegas de la Edad Moderna como espacios de intercambios políticos y culturales. El tema de las jornadas nacía de la unión de los intereses científicos de los grupos organizadores, dejando lugar a temáticas diferentes como: la articulación de un mensaje festivo a lo largo del recorri- do de procesiones y entradas públicas, la financiación y los aspectos más prácticos de la puesta en escena de un evento festivo, la tipificación de ceremonias y decoraciones en determinados contextos, el intercambio cultural a través de la fiesta, o la recepción de las modificaciones de los espacios por parte de los espectadores

Measuring and making decisions for social reciprocity

Social reciprocity may explain certain emerging psychological processes, which are likely to be founded on dyadic relations. Although some indices and statistics have been proposed to measure and make statistical decisions regarding social reciprocity in groups, these were generally developed to identify association patterns rather than to quantify the discrepancies between what each individual addresses to his/her partners and what is received from them in return. Additionally, social researchers are not only interested in measuring groups at the global level, since dyadic and individual measurements are also necessary for a proper description of social interactions. This study is concerned with a new statistic for measuring social reciprocity at the global level and with decomposing it in order to identify those dyads and individuals which account for a significant part of asymmetry in social interactions. In addition to a set of indices some exact analytical results are derived and a way of making statistical decisions is proposed.

The Sense of embodiment in virtual reality

What does it feel like to own, to control, and to be inside a body? The multidimensional nature of this experience together with the continuous presence of one's biological body, render both theoretical and experimental approaches problematic. Nevertheless, exploitation of immersive virtual reality has allowed a reframing of this question to whether it is possible to experience the same sensations towards a virtual body inside an immersive virtual environment as toward the biological body, and if so, to what extent. The current paper addresses these issues by referring to the Sense of Embodiment (SoE). Due to the conceptual confusion around this sense, we provide a working definition which states that SoE consists of three subcomponents: the sense of self-location, the sense of agency, and the sense of body ownership. Under this proposed structure, measures and experimental manipulations reported in the literature are reviewed and related challenges are outlined. Finally, future experimental studies are proposed to overcome those challenges, toward deepening the concept of SoE and enhancing it in virtual applications.
