The boundaries of Solius (Santa Cristina d'Aro, Baix Empordà) from 916 to 1057. Basing its study on seven documentsfrom the years 916 to 1057, the place names are described and located on two maps marking the boundaries of the district of Solius (Santa Cristina d'Aro, Baix Empordà). There is an attempt to show, among these facts, that there actually existed three different districts of Solius, which we call here Solius Whole, Solius Maritime and Solius Continental; there is also reference made to the names of the different owners as well as the border relations with the neighbouring villages

The geological features of the Baix Empordà Plain are mainly related to the sedimentary processes that took place during the Holocen, when a stable sea level was reached at the end of the Versilian transgression. In this paper, all the sedimentary environments which have given rise to the present morphology are described: alluvial, coastal and palustrine environments as well as colluvial and aeolian deposits. We conclude with a scheme in which the geological evolution of the Plain is shown

The aim of this article is to think about the expansion in peasant property detectable from the end of nineteeth to the middle of twenteeth centuries. The research is centred around one particular Catalan region, the Baix Empordà. The main parts of the process were the break-up and, the sale of old estates, as well as its purchase —fragmented— by peasant sectors. Some explanatory elements are set, both related to the behaviour of landed sectors, and to the means that make possible the expansion of a significant group of peasant properties

long-term cultural history of the Madriu-Perafita-Claror valleys (Andorra) and the Cadí Range (Catalonia) has been investigated thanks to the combination of archaeological surveys and excavation, analysis of written sources, multiproxy alaeoenvironment analysis (pollen, NPP, micro and macro charcoal, sedimentology and geochemistry), and digital technologies such as stereophotogrammetry, multispectral imaging, DGPS and GIS. The project has been designed from a landscape archaeology approach and the study area has been selected due to the suitable setting it provides for a meaningful application of the aforementioned techniques. Consequently, archaeological, historical and palaeoenvironmental data have been all treated as cultural proxies. Their comparison has allowed obtaining not only coherent but also complementary results. The project outcomes show an uninterrupted occupation of these high mountain valleys (2000-2600 m a.s.l.) from the Mesolithic until the present. This human occupation shows strong spatial and chronological variability in human practices ranging from a stable long term group occupation in the Late Neolithic to the diversification of representative practices during the Roman period (metallurgy, pine resin exploitation, charcoal production, pastoralism, etc.). This high diversity of activities leads to complex cultural landscapes in the high Pyrenean areas. The reconstruction of the cultural history at the study areas will allow the development of more sustainable politics for these landscapes management.

In the history of food shortages and subsistence crises which affected the Catalan counties during the eleventh and twelfth centuries, the famine of 1129-1131 deserves special mention. Originating in the war of 1128 involving the Empordà and neighboring counties, this famine affected the city of Barcelona and other points of Catalonia (Winter, 1131) and created conditions for the spread of a deadly epidemic (July 1130 -January 1132).

[eng] The archaeological interest on the environmental changes during historical times has increased during the last decades. In accordance, a number of palynological from NE Spain records has been recently published. Despite chronological frame works are not yet enough reliable, this paper proposes a synthesis of landscape changes from VIIIth century BC to XIIth century AD. Palynological data suggest the presence of human impacts at ghe beginning of iberic times. Humans pressure, mainly farmning activities, intensified during iberian times. Roman times record a less extensive land use but at the IVth century AD, grazing expanded at regional scale. Pastures expanded again at VIIth century AD, reaching high altitudes in the Pyrenees while at littoral plains, meadows were used for grazing. This period resulted in a deep change of the Catalan lansacapes.
