Two component Emden sphere

The theory of a self-gravitating gas sphere is given. The gravitational field is generated by two components, each of which is an independent isothermal gas. Various quantities of interest, such as density profiles, core radii of both components, masses, free-free luminosity, surface brightness, central surface density, and overestimate of central mass density, are given for different values of both parameters which arise naturally (ratio of central densities, ratio of rms velocities). Fundamental changes appear when comparison is made with a theory in which the second component is a 'test component'. Procedures are given for the complete analysis of real astrophysical configurations such as clusters of galaxies or globular clusters.

The Coordinated Radio and Infrared Survey for High-Mass Star Formation (The CORNISH Survey). I. Survey Design

We describe the motivation, design, and implementation of the CORNISH survey, an arcsecondresolution radio continuum survey of the inner galactic plane at 5 GHz using the Very Large Array (VLA). It is a blind survey coordinated with the northern SpitzerGLIMPSE I region covering 10° star formation. A sensitivity around 2 mJy will allow the automatic distinction between radio-loud and radio-quiet midIR sources found in the Spitzersurveys. This survey has many legacy applications beyond star formation, including evolved stars, active stars and binaries, and extragalactic sources. The CORNISH survey for compact ionized sources complements other Galactic plane surveys that target diffuse and nonthermal sources, as well as atomic and molecular phases to build up a complete picture of the interstellar medium in the Galaxy.

Accessibilitat al web: panoràmica general

Es presenta el concepte d'accessibilitat al web com a sistema per a facilitar el treball a la xarxa per part de les persones discapacitades i millorar la usabilitat dels continguts. A partir de la Iniciativa per a l'Accessibilitat al Web (WAI) del World-Wide Web Consortium (W3C), aquest ha elaborat unes directrius que actualment estan en procés d'adopció pels diferents governs i empreses. Finalment es presenten diverses eines informàtiques i entitats de contacte que donen suport a aquestes actuacions.

This year, IFLA's World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) was held in Durban, South Africa, under the title ¿Libraries for the future: progress, development and partnerships¿. The association thus continued its policy of holding the event in different continents: Buenos Aires (South America) 2004, Oslo (Europe) 2005, Seoul (Asia) 2006, Durban (Africa) 2007, Quebec (North America) 2008, Milan (Europe) 2009 and Brisbane (Oceania) 2010.

Bangkok fou enguany la seu del 65è congrés de l'IFLA que se celebrà entre els dies 20 i 28 d'agost sota el lema «Libraries as gateways to an enlightened world». Hi estigueren representats 117 països, amb un total de 2.237 participants ¿inclosos els acompanyants¿; hi tingueren lloc un total de 280 reunions i, fins a la cloenda, s'havien rebut 311 treballs ¿que s'han publicat a IFLANET.
