In this study, 13 ceramic samples were subjected to dissolution using three different procedures: (a) acid attack in open PTFE vessels with a mixture of HF-HClO4, (b) fusion of the sample with lithium metaborate and (c) microwave digestion in PTFE bombs. The samples used in the study had been previously analyzed by neutron activation analysis (NAA), X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) and they cover a wide range of ceramics fired in different atmospheres and temperatures as well as different mineralogical and chemical compositions. The effectiveness of each procedure is evaluated in terms of its ability to dissolve the various mineralogical phases of the samples, of the number of elements that can be determined and of the time needed for the whole scheme of analysis to be completed.

The appearance of the Banco de Barcelona involved the formation of an investment compact network between its directors. In this work we studied how this investment network grew within a larger one, the one formed by the major investors in Catalonia during the period 1815-1866, as well as the role played by the top executives of the Bank inside it. Our findings indicate that some of the directors of the Bank held a central position in the main Catalan investors" network. This important role guaranteed reliable information on the progress of businesses. This information not only favored the operations of the institution, but also allowed its directors to take investment decisions inside the network. Moreover, the Bank interconnects individuals who were associated with different investors" sectors, which made the institution coalesced around an investing core with different important influences and connections.

Background: Hyperhomocysteinemia and methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene mutation have been postulated as a possible cause of recurrent miscarriage (RM). There is a wide variation in the prevalence of MTHFR polymorphisms and homocysteine (Hcy) plasma levels among populations around the world. The present study was undertaken to investigate the possible association between hyperhomocysteinemia and its causative genetic or acquired factors and RM in Catalonia, a Mediterranean region in Spain. Methods: Sixty consecutive patients with 3 unexplained RM and 30 healthy control women having at least one child but no previous miscarriage were included. Plasma Hcy levels, MTHFR gene mutation, red blood cell (RBC) folate and vitamin B12 serum levels were measured in all subjects. Results: No significant differences were observed neither in plasma Hcy levels, RBC folate and vitamin B12 serum levels nor in the prevalence of homozygous and heterozygous MTHFR gene mutation between the two groups studied. Conclusions: In the present study RM is not associated with hyperhomocysteinemia, and/or the MTHFR gene mutation.

The possible coexistence of ferromagnetism and charge/orbital order in Bi3/4Sr1/4MnO3 has been investigated. The manganite Bi0.75Sr0.25MnO3, with commensurate charge balance, undergoes an electronic transition at TCO~600 K that produces a longrange modulation with double periodicity along a and c axis, and unusual anisotropic evolution of the lattice parameters. The previously proposed ferromagnetic properties of this new ordered phase were studied by magnetometry and diffraction techniques. In zero field the magnetic structure is globally antiferromagnetic, ruling out the apparition of spontaneous ferromagnetism. However, the application of magnetic fields produces a continuous progressive canting of the moments, inducing a ferromagnetic phase even for relatively small fields (H<<1 T). Application of pulsed high fields produces a remarkable and reversible spin polarization (under 30 T, the ferromagnetic moment is ~3 B/Mn, without any sign of charge order melting). The coexistence of ferromagnetism and charge order at low and very-high fields is a remarkable property of this system.

Se expone una breve evolucin histrica del surgimiento de las nuevas herramientas de comunicacin social en la red de la Repblica Popular China, incidiendo en los incesantes avances de la evolucin tecnolgica y las tendencias de desarrollo que han experimentado los servicios de redes sociales. Se hace un anlisis de las consecuencias que conlleva el uso de las redes sociales en las relaciones personales de los universitarios chinos. Se investiga los motivos y la frecuencia de uso de las redes sociales, as como las implicaciones de las interacciones virtuales en la forma de relacionarse con el entorno social. As mismo, se profundiza en las influencias positivas y negativas que provoca la expansin de las redes sociales en la vida universitaria china.

Background: Few clinical studies have focused on the alcoholindependent cardiovascular effects of the phenolic compounds of red wine (RW). Objective: We aimed to evaluate the effects of ethanol and phenolic compounds of RW on the expression of inflammatory biomarkers related to atherosclerosis in subjects at high risk of cardiovascular disease. Design: Sixty-seven high-risk, male volunteers were included in a randomized, crossover consumption trial. After a washout period, all subjects received RW (30 g alcohol/d), the equivalent amount of dealcoholized red wine (DRW), or gin (30 g alcohol/d) for 4 wk. Before and after each intervention period, 7 cellular and 18 serum inflammatory biomarkers were evaluated. Results: Alcohol increased IL-10 and decreased macrophage-derived chemokine concentrations, whereas the phenolic compounds of RW decreased serum concentrations of intercellular adhesion molecule- 1, E-selectin, and IL-6 and inhibited the expression of lymphocyte function-associated antigen 1 in T lymphocytes and macrophage-1 receptor, Sialil-Lewis X, and C-C chemokine receptor type 2 expression in monocytes. Both ethanol and phenolic compounds of RW downregulated serum concentrations of CD40 antigen, CD40 ligand, IL-16, monocyte chemotactic protein-1, and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1. Conclusion: The results suggest that the phenolic content of RW may modulate leukocyte adhesion molecules, whereas both ethanol and polyphenols of RW may modulate soluble inflammatory mediators in high-risk patients. Ceramic vessels and milling stones are important components of the archaeological record in several Nuraghi from the Pranemuru Plateau (Sardinia). To obtain information on the possible uses of the milling stones and the content vessels is of great interest to understand the economical activities carried out in these sites by these populations. One of the approaches to obtain information on the plant uses was the phytolith analyses of the sediment adhered both to the surface of the milling stones and to the surface of the vessel content. In total we analyzed eleven archaeological samples and two control samples collected from five different Nuraghi in the Pranemuru Plateau (Nuoro Province, Sardinia). The Nuraghi were located in an area of 10 km radius from nuraghe Arrubiu and were chronologically ascribed to the Bronze Age and one site -Pranu Illixi- to the Iron Age.

La empresa red constituye un modelo de empresa formado a partir de una constelacin de pequeas empreses jurdicamente independientes pero coordinadas por un mismo ciclo de produccin. Estan articuladas por pautas, normas y leyes consuetudinarias, as como vinculadas a la comunidad local y a las redes de parentesco, amistad y vecindad. En este estudio se exponen los efectos de dicho modelo de empresa sobre la dualizacin del mercado de trabajo y de las relaciones laborales. Asimismo, ilustra sobre uno de los procedimientos de reorganizacin social de la produccin.

En les ltimes dues dcades el mn publicitari ha experimentat una gran evoluci a causa de laparici dels nous models digitals i lentorn 2.0. En aquest projecte es recull un anlisi sobre els orgens de la transmedialitat, les seves caracterstiques i mltiples funcions. A ms a ms, aprofundirem en el rellevant paper del consumidor en aquests nous formats, en ser un element fonamental que ajuda a tancar el cercle comunicatiu. En concret, sestudiar el repte Can You Make It? de la marca Red Bull en ser un cas amb una gran varietat delements publicitaris a analitzar.

El proyecto "RPS: Red social para entusiastas de Raspberry Pi", se desarrollar en el mbito temtico de desarrollo de aplicaciones mviles con HTML5. La idea principal de este proyecto se centra en dar visibilidad a la comunidad de Raspberry Pi, mediante una aplicacin mvil destinada a compartir las experiencias de sus usuarios de una forma sencilla y atractiva.
