SL(3,C) elementary instanton configurations

Several SL(3,C) self-dual instanton solutions of the Yang-Mills equations are presented which have very striking properties. While one of them is regular and SU(3) inside (outside) a sphere of arbitrarily large (small) radius, another one has all the characteristics of a meron solution (in particular its topological charge is concentrated at one point) although its Pontryagin number equals one. Their continuation to Minkowski space is also studied.

The equivalence between the covariant and the noncovariant versions of a constrained system is shown to hold after quantization in the framework of the field-antifield formalism. Our study covers the cases of electromagnetism and Yang-Mills fields and sheds light on some aspects of the Faddeev-Popov method, for both the covariant and noncovariant approaches, which have not been fully clarified in the literature.

Cherenkov mesons as in-medium quark energy loss

We recently showed that a heavy quark moving su ciently fast through a quark-gluon plasma may lose energy by Cherenkov-radiating mesons [1]. Here we review our previous holographic calculation of the energy loss in N = 4 Super Yang-Mills and extend it to longitudinal vector mesons and scalar mesons. We also discuss phenomenological implications for heavy-ion collision experiments. Although the Cherenkov energy loss is an O(1=Nc) effect, a ballpark estimate yields a value of dE/dx for Nc = 3 which is comparable to that of other mechanisms.

Els arrendaments dels drets de bolla: un indicador vàlid per mesurar la producció i el consum de teixits?

L'objectiu d'aquest treball és presentar la reconstrucció de la sèrie dels ingressos obtinguts per la Generalitat de Catalunya a través de la recaptació de l'impost de bolla durant l'edat moderna -és a dir, des de la primeria del segle XVI fins a la seva desaparició en el darrer terç del segle XVIII (1770)-, i valorar-ne la validesa com a indicador de la producció i/o el consum de teixits a Catalunya en tota aquesta etapa.
