Women's work histories in Italy: education as investment in reconciliation and legitimacy?

Within pre-enlargement Europe, Italy records one of the widest employment rate gaps between highly and poorly educated women, as well one of the largest differences in the share, among working women, of public sector employment. Building on these stylized facts and using the Longitudinal Survey of Italian Households (ILFI), we investigate the working trajectories of three cohorts of Italian women born between 1935 and 1964 and observed from their first job until they are in their forties. We use mainly, but not exclusively, event history analysis in order to identify the main factors that influence entry into and exit from paid work over the life course. Our results suggest that in the Italian context, where employment protection policies have also been used as surrogate measures to favour reconciliation between family and work, and where traditional gender norms still persist, education is so important for women's employment decisions because it represents an investment in 'reconciliation' and 'work legitimacy' over and above investment in human capital.

¿Cuando los deseos no lo son todo? Hacienda Pública en Bolivia, 1882-2007

El presente trabajo pretende un análisid de la intervención estatal en Bolivia a través de la hacienda pública. El trabajo supone un avance respecto a anteriores estudios por dos motivos. Por un lado, porque presenta un horizonte temporal de análisis mucho más amplio: se inicia en el último cuarto de siglo XIX y llega hasta la actualidad. Por otro lado, porque presenta evidencia cuantitativa totalmente inédita: una estimación de los ingresos y gastos fiscales del Estado Central desagregados de acuerdo a parámetros internacionales.

Prensa escrita y poder político en Argentina (2007-2013) : estudio de caso sobre Papel Prensa S.A.

Papel Prensa es l’ única empresa argentina fabricant de paper per a consum dels diaris. Els grups Clarín i La Nación han estat els seus accionistes majoritaris des del 1976, desprès del cop d’ Estat cívic militar. El Govern va aconseguir aprovar el mes de desembre del 2011 una llei que declarava “d’interès públic” la producció, comercialització i distribució de paper per a diaris. El conflicte desfermat pel control de l’empresa paperera enfronta al poder executiu amb el poder dels grups de comunicació tradicionals amb una més gran influència social i també política. L’ anàlisi de les informacions i opinions publicades mostren la progressiva polarització del país
