T-Coffee: a web server for the multiple sequence alignment of protein and RNA sequences using structural information and homology extension

This article introduces a new interface for T-Coffee, a consistency-based multiple sequence alignment program. This interface provides an easy and intuitive access to the most popular functionality of the package. These include the default T-Coffee mode for protein and nucleic acid sequences, the M-Coffee mode that allows combining the output of any other aligners, and template-based modes of T-Coffee that deliver high accuracy alignments while using structural or homology derived templates. These three available template modes are Expresso for the alignment of protein with a known 3D-Structure, R-Coffee to align RNA sequences with conserved secondary structures and PSI-Coffee to accurately align distantly related sequences using homology extension. The new server benefits from recent improvements of the T-Coffee algorithm and can align up to 150 sequences as long as 10 000 residues and is available from both http://www.tcoffee.org and its main mirror http://tcoffee.crg.cat.

MeteoCAT : Visor web SIG de dades meteorològiques

El projecte consisteix en la creació d'un visor web SIG de dades meteorològiques. Esta eina permetrà els usuaris accedir a una web on podran consultar i visualitzar diferents dades cartogràfiques i meteorològiques. A més a més, podran superposar en un mapa diferents conjunts de dades a analitzar, facilitant per tant la feina dels meteoròlegs. Es podrà també accedir a dades de diferents dates i visualitzar un històric de la situació del clima, facilitant la tasca de crear models històrics i permetent veure com ha evolucionat el clima al llarg del temps.

Análisis de logs con soluciones Big Data e integración con BI corporativo

En este trabajo se hace una evaluación de la solución Big Data Hadoop como alternativa de almacenamiento y procesado de elevados volúmenes de datos en comparación con modelos relacionales tradicionales en un Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) corporativo, y de cómo ésta es capaz de integrarse con las herramientas de visualización típicas de las suites Business Intelligence.

Dades obertes enllaçades (Linked Open Data) en el món de l'educació : Una visió de l'estat de l'art d'aquesta tecnologia aplicada a l'ensenyament i l'aprenentatge

En el present treball hem tractat d'aportar una visió actual del món de les dades obertes enllaçades en l'àmbit de l'educació. Hem revisat tant les aplicacions que van dirigides a implementar aquestes tecnologies en els repositoris de dades existents (pàgines web, repositoris d'objectes educacionals, repositoris de cursos i programes educatius) com a ser suport de nous paradigmes dins del món de l'educació.

Dades floristiques per a l'Alt Bergueda

Se presenta una lista de 19 táxones con interés corológico, del Alt Berguedá (Pirineos orientales), con algunas observaciones acerca de su ecología, y en algunos casos con su distribución en Cataluña. La lista incluye nuevas localidades pirenaicas para orófitos (Brassica repanda subsp. turbonis, Alyssum cuneifolium), plantas mediterráneas (Asparagus acutifolius, Arenaria modesta), sinantrópicas (Impatiens balfourii), etc.

Reconstruction of Fresnel Holograms using partial wave front information

n this work we analyze the behavior of complex information in Fresnel domain taking into account the limited capability to display complex transmittance values of current liquid crystal devices, when used as holographic displays. In order to do this analysis we compute the reconstruction of Fresnel holograms at several distances using the different parts of the complex distribution (real and imaginary parts, amplitude and phase) as well as using the full complex information adjusted with a method that combines two configurations of the devices in an adding architecture. The RMS error between the amplitude of these reconstructions and the original amplitude is used to evaluate the quality of the information displayed. The results of the error analysis show different behavior for the reconstructions using the different parts of the complex distribution and using the combined method of two devices. Better reconstructions are obtained when using two devices whose configurations densely cover the complex plane when they are added. Simulated and experimental results are also presented.

Com fer una anàlisi quantitativa de dades de tipus descriptiu amb el paquet estadístic de l"SPSS?

En l"actualitat és difícil parlar de processos estadístics d"anàlisi quantitativa de dades sense fer referència a la informàtica aplicada a la recerca. Aquests recursos informàtics es basen sovint en paquets de programes informàtics que tenen l"objectiu d"ajudar al/a la investigador/a en la fase d"anàlisi de dades. En aquests moments un dels paquets més perfeccionats i complets és l"SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). L"SPSS és un paquet de programes per tal de dur a terme l"anàlisi estadística de les dades. Constitueix una aplicació estadística força potent, de la qual s"han anat desenvolupant diverses versions des dels seus inicis, als anys setanta. En aquest manual les sortides d"ordinador que es presenten pertanyen a la versió 11.0.1. No obstant això, tot i que la forma ha anat variant des dels inicis, pel que fa al funcionament segueix essent molt similar entre les diferents versions. Abans d"iniciar-nos en la utilització de les aplicacions de l"SPSS és important familiaritzarse amb algunes de les finestres que més farem servir. En entrar a l"SPSS el primer que ens trobem és l"editor de dades. Aquesta finestra visualitza, bàsicament, les dades que anirem introduint. L"editor de dades inclou dues opcions: la Vista de les dades i la de les variables. Aquestes opcions es poden seleccionar a partir de les dues pestanyes que es presenten en la part inferior. La vista de dades conté el menú general i la matriu de dades. Aquesta matriu s"estructura amb els casos a les files i les variables a les columnes.

Com optimitzar una matriu de dades? Utilitats bàsiques de l"SPSS

Una vegada es disposa de les dades introduïdes al paquet estadístic de l"SPSS (Statistical Package of Social Science) en una matriu de dades, és el moment de plantejar-se optimitzar aquesta matriu per poder extreure el màxim rendiment a les dades, segons el tipus d"anàlisi que es pretengui dur a terme. Per a això, el mateix SPSS té una sèrie d"utilitats que poden ser de gran utilitat. Aquestes utilitats bàsiques poden diferenciar-se segons la seva funcionalitat entre: les utilitats per a l"edició de dades, les utilitats per a la modificació de variables i les opcions d"ajuda que ens brinda. A continuació es presenten algunes d"aquestes utilitats.

La crisis del segle III a l’àrea compresa entre Tarraco i Saguntum: aproximació a partir de les dades arqueològiques

The purpose of this work is to evaluate the possible impact of the so-called “crisis of the 3rd century” in the area between Tarraco (Tarragona) and Saguntum (Sagunt), currently corresponding to the southern limit of Catalonia and the north of Valencia, which during the Roman era made up the southernmost part of the conventus Tarraconensis. The processes of change experienced in rural settlements and cities between the Severan dynasty and the beginning of the tetrarchy are analyzed, and the importance of the city-country relationship is examined to explain these changes. The extent of the Frankish invasion during of the Gallic period, initially substantiated by sources and now by archaeological evidence, is discussed. The study of coin hoards (treasures and deposits) from the second half of the 3rd century, found in abundance in this area, is a very interesting aspect of this topic. In addition, a quantitative approach is used to study the population changes experienced as a result of the rural settlement of this area during the 3rd century, between the High and the Low Empires.

El Proyecto CLARIN: Una infraestructura de investigación científica para las Humanidades y las Ciencias Sociales

En aquest article presentem CLARIN (Common Language Resources and Technologies), un projecte de col·laboració europea a gran escala l"objectiu del qual és potenciar l"ús d"instruments tecnològics en la recerca en els àmbits de les humanitats i les ciències socials. CLARIN és un dels trenta-cinc projectes seleccionats pel Comitè ESFRI (European Strategy Forum on Research Infraestructures) per a la llista de les infraestructures que s"han d"haver construït, per la seva importància per a la recerca, d"aquí a deu anys. CLARIN vol portar a les humanitats i a les ciències socials els beneficis de l"accés compartit i en col·laboració a recursos digitals, i també l"ús del còmput intensiu amb instruments específics d"anàlisi i explotació per a l"accés intel·ligent a grans bases de dades. Amb aquest objectiu, CLARIN crearà la infraestructura necessària per a poder donar un accés genèric a grans bancs de dades i als instruments d"anàlisi i explotació d"aquestes dades mitjançant la utilització de tecnologia. Per a això implementarà, en una estructura de xarxa grid, i mitjançant tecnologia de serveis web i de web semàntic, una única interfície d"accés a les dades i als instruments d"anàlisi, i també a eines de processament i altres serveis necessaris. Aquesta interfície, pel fet de ser dissenyada per a servir els objectius comuns de la recerca en humanitats i ciències socials, en facilitarà l"ús a investigadors de diferents àmbits sense necessitat de tenir coneixements sobre les tecnologies implicades.

Disseny i implementació d'un programari d'adquisició de dades de la producció d'una línia automàtica de palets

This thesis presents a software that allows data acquisition production process, in this case, an automatic pallet nailing line. The recording of these data will enable them to make a track and analyze them later, either with the analytical tools of the application or by the transfer of such data to an Excel sheet or database. The programming language has been developed made by Ladder for the application in the PLC that controls the line of nailing. Control pages for the HMI application that monitors the process. Finally, the Visual Basic language for the production department computer application. To extract production variables from the process, the developed software communicates with the network formed by the PLC and the HMI terminal which stores and control the process using the Modbus TCP/IP protocol.
