El objetivo de este trabajo es discutir las principales aproximaciones utilizadas en la literatura para la evaluación monetaria de la degradación de los suelos: el método del coste de reposición y el método del cambio en la productividad. El método del coste de reposición ha sido aplicado principalmente a procesos de erosión, y representa a los suelos como simples "stocks" de nutrientes para las plantas. Este método es erróneo, además, por considerar que una unidad de nutriente en el suelo erosionado es equivalente a una unidad del mismo nutriente en un fertilizante sintético, ya que la concentración del nutriente en éste es muy superior a la concentración en aquél. Por su parte, el método del cambio en la productividad asigna al suelo lo que es, en realidad, un resultado del sistema de uso del territorio. Además, sólo considera la función de producción agraria del suelo, sobre la base de una definición por otro lado simplista de la productividad. En cualquier caso, estas aproximaciones no permiten resolver la valoración de los procesos irreversibles en la dinámica de los suelos ya que no disponemos de sustitutos renovables del suelo. Por ello, estos métodos no pueden considerarse sino complementarios de los métodos de valoración física de la dinámica de los suelos.

We examined the genetic population structure of the european hake (Merluccius merluccius) using electrophoretically detectable population markers in 35 protein loci. Samples were collected from 7 locations in the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. Six loci were polymorphic using the 0.05 criterion of polymorphism. Sample heterozigosities ranged from 0.052 to 0.072 and averaged 0.0625. In this study, significant allele frequency differences were detected between Atlantic and Mediterranean populations in three polymorphic loci: GAPDH-1*, GPI-2* and SOD-1*. Two major genetic groups were considered: a North-Atlantic stock and the Mediterranean stock. The Nei genetic distance, D, (based on 33 loci) between samples from these two groups ranged from 0.002 to 0.006. Genetic differenciation between these areas appears to reflect the barrier effect of Strait of Gibraltar. On average over loci, 96.92 % of the total gene diversity was contained within samples, 0.23 % expressed differences among locations within areas, and 2.64 % differences between regions. A review of morphological variation together with the genetic data presented here suggest that the populations of hake from these areas are subdivided into two different stocks: the North-Atlantic stock and the Mediterranean stock. The paper analyses the link between human capital and regional economic growth in the European Union. Using different indicators of human capital calculated from census microdata, we conclude that the recent economic performance of European regions is associated to an increase in overeducation. In fact, measures of educational mismatch seem to have a stronger connection to regional economic performance than other traditional measures of human capital stocks.

Brown trout is a cold-adapted freshwater species with restricted distribution to headwater streams in rivers of the South European peninsulas, where populations are highly vulnerable because Mediterranean regions are highly sensitive to the global climatic warming. Moreover, these populations are endangered due to the introgressive hybridization with cultured stocks. Individuals from six remnant populations in Western Mediterranean rivers were sequenced for the complete mitochondrial DNA control region and genotyped for 11 nuclear markers. Three different brown trout lineages were present in the studied region. Significant genetic divergence was observed among locations and a strong effect of genetic drift was suggested. An important stocking impact (close to 25%) was detected in the zone. Significant correlations between mitochondrial-based rates of hatchery introgression and water flow variation suggested a higher impact of stocked females in unstable habitats. In spite of hatchery introgression, all populations remained highly differentiated, suggesting that native genetic resources are still abundant. However, climatic predictions indicated that suitable habitats for the species in these rivers will be reduced and hence trout populations are highly endangered and vulnerable. Thus, management policies should take into account these predictions to design upstream refuge areas to protect remnant native trout in the region

Due to the overwhelming international evidence that stock prices drop by less than the dividend paid on ex-dividend days, the ex-dividend day anomaly is considered a stylized fact. Two main approaches have emerged to explain this empirical regularity: the tax-clientele hypothesis and the microstructure of financial markets. Although the most widely accepted explanation for this fact relies on taxes, the ex-dividend day anomaly has been reported even in countries where neither dividends nor capital gains are taxed. The 2006 tax reform in Spain established the same tax rate for dividends and capital gains. This paper investigates stock returns on ex-dividend days in the Spanish stock market after the 2006 tax reform using a random coefficient model. Contrary to previous research, we do not observe an ex-dividend day anomaly. Unlike previous investigations, which are mostly concerned with suggesting explanations as to why this anomaly has occurred, we are in the somewhat strange position of discussing why this anomaly has not occurred. Our findings are robust across companies and stock dividend yields, thus supporting a tax--based explanation for the ex-dividend day anomaly.

Actualmente, las necesidades de mejora en gestión de stocks y la mayor disponibilidad de sistemas automáticos, están haciendo que muchas empresas inviertan en técnicas modernas para almacenamiento y manipulación de productos. Esta inquietud también ha llegado a las farmacias, que de forma lenta pero firme se van apuntando a su robotización. Uno de los principales problemas a los que se enfrentan las farmacias es la pérdida de tiempo en la gestión y búsqueda de medicamentos, provocando situaciones negativas como las esperas, la falta de tiempo para una atención más personalizada y como consecuencia, la pérdida de clientes. Este inconveniente y la necesidad de mejora en la gestión de los stocks han hecho que aparezcan los Sistemas de dispensación automática de productos farmacéuticos. El dispensador automático facilita el trabajo del farmacéutico al automatizar la búsqueda de la medicina requerida, aumentando la dedicación al cliente y reduciendo los tiempos no productivos y las colas. El presente estudio desarrolla un sistema de dispensación automático de fármacos aplicado a farmacias con una rotación de medicamentos media/ baja, valorando tanto su viabilidad técnica como económica. El almacén propuesto es de tipo caótico con sistema de carga, almacenamiento y descarga completamente automáticos. La mayoría de diseños y conceptos expuestos en este trabajo son de desarrollo propio del autor con el único objetivo de la búsqueda de nuevas soluciones para conseguir un sistema de almacenamiento efectivo y de máximo rendimiento.

The reproductive and general health of exploited fish stocks is an essential element of sustainable and profitable fisheries. The main purpose of this study was to assess the relationships between reproduction and two important parameters of fish health (parasitism and energy reserves) in female specimens of red mullet, Mullus barbatus, from the western Mediterranean Sea. We present new data for this species on (i) the prevalence and intensity of infection by metazoan parasites; (ii) the total lipid content in muscle and gonads as a measure of condition and (iii) fecundity and egg quality as a measure of their reproductive capacity. The results show that M. barbatus is a batch spawner with an income breeding strategy, an asynchronous development of oocytes and indeterminate fecundity. The results also indicate that the three most abundant and prevalent parasites significantly affect the condition and reproduction of M. barbatus. Specifically, the digenean, Opecoeloides furcatus, causes a reduction in the female"s energy reserves, while the nematodes, Hysterothylacium fabri and H. aduncum, produce a rise in egg production but impair egg quality. These implications of the relationships between parasitism, fish health and fish reproduction should be taken into consideration in the assessment and management of exploited species
