Aquest paper mostra els orígens i fonaments de la doctrina eclesiàstica sobre la usura, l’aparición dels instruments comercials i financers que evitaven la condemna de l’església i les excepcions i noves doctrines que consideraven lícit el benefici procedent del préstec.

Valoración de credit default swaps: una aplicación del modelo de Hull-White al mercado español

En este trabajo se presenta una aplicación empírica del modelo de Hull-White (2000) al mercado de renta fija español. Este modelo proporciona la expresión por el cálculo de los pagos hechos por el comprador de un credit default swap (CDS), bajo la hipótesis de que no existe riesgo de contrapartida. Se supone, además, que la curva cupón cero, la tasa de recuperación constante y el momento del suceso de crédito son independientes. Se utilizan bonos del Banco Santander Central Hispano para mesurar la probabilidad neutra al riesgo de quiebra y, bajo hipótesis de no arbitraje, se calculan las primas de un CDS, por un bono subyacente con la misma calificación crediticia que la entidad de referencia. Se observa que las primas se ajustan bien a los spreads crediticios del mercado, que se acostumbran a utilizar como alternativa a las mismas.

Siempre es motivo de gozo releer un clásico moderno. En esta ocasión se trata de Ferdinand Gregorovius, cuya Atenais ha publicado recientemente Herder en una magnífica traducción (la primera en lengua española) de José Antonio Molina Gómez, profesor de la Universidad de Murcia. Herder prosigue de esta manera la línea editorial, iniciada hace ya algunos años,de publicar las biografías de grandes figuras de la antigüedad, entre las que cabe contar las dedicadas a Aníbal, Cleopatra, Augusto, Calígula, Constantino I, Juliano o Teodosio I.

The effect of recombination in Aeromonas

Although several approaches have been attempted, the estimation of recombination frequencies in natural populations ofbacteria remains challenging. Previous studies have demonstrated awide variety of situations among bacterial species, ranging from theclonal diversification of Salmonella or Escherichia coli, which aremainly due to mutation, to the frequent recombination found inNeisseria gonorrhoeae or Helicobacter pylori. Most of the populationstudies done with bacterial species suggest that recombination occursin nature but that it is infrequent compared to mutation. Consequently,bacterial populations consist largely of independent clonal lineages.Our research suggests little or null influence of recombination in thegenetic structure of "Aeromonas hydrophila Species Complex", despite the presence of some strains with recombinant gene fragments.

Effects of math anxiety on student success in higher education

This study examines whether math anxiety and negative attitudes toward mathematics have an effect on university students" academic achievement in a methodological course forming part of their degree. A total of 193 students were presented with a math anxiety test and some questions about their enjoyment, self-confidence and motivation regarding mathematics, and their responses were assessed in relation to the grades they had obtained during continuous assessment on a course entitled"Research Design". Results showed that low performance on the course was related to math anxiety and negative attitudes toward mathematics. We suggest that these factors may affect students" performance and should therefore be taken into account in attempts to improve students" learning processes in methodological courses of this kind.

La carne en El caos de Wilcock y en los Cuentos fríos de Piñera

En el presente ensayo, primero hacemos un recorrido por las biografías de Virgilio Piñera y J. Rodolfo Wilcock para poner de manifiesto sus afinidades vitales, cómo ambos pertenecieron a los mismos círculos intelectuales y literarios y con parecida actitud ante el ideario de las revistas y los grupos del momento. Seguidamente analizamos los principales rasgos de la obra del escritor cubano como el absurdo, la idea de lo siniestro (con Freud a la cabeza) y la ironía para ponerlo en relación con los cuentos El caos de Wilcock. Por último, concluimos que el sadismo y la crueldad, el disentimiento y el cinismo describen la obra cuentística de ambos.

Molecular phylogenetics and temporal diversification in the genus Aeromonas based on the sequences of five housekeeping genes

Several approaches have been developed to estimate both the relative and absolute rates of speciation and extinction within clades based on molecular phylogenetic reconstructions of evolutionary relationships, according to an underlying model of diversification. However, the macroevolutionary models established for eukaryotes have scarcely been used with prokaryotes. We have investigated the rate and pattern of cladogenesis in the genus Aeromonas (γ-Proteobacteria, Proteobacteria, Bacteria) using the sequences of five housekeeping genes and an uncorrelated relaxed-clock approach. To our knowledge, until now this analysis has never been applied to all the species described in a bacterial genus and thus opens up the possibility of establishing models of speciation from sequence data commonly used in phylogenetic studies of prokaryotes. Our results suggest that the genus Aeromonas began to diverge between 248 and 266 million years ago, exhibiting a constant divergence rate through the Phanerozoic, which could be described as a pure birth process.

Evaluación del rendimiento académico en diseños de investigación

En Diseños de Investigación, asignatura obligatoria del grado de psicología, se ha implementado un sistema de evaluación continua, a través de un conjunto de activi-dades. A fin de valorar este sistema, en el curso 2011-12, se llevó a cabo un estudio con una muestra de 79 estudiantes. A tal efecto, se construyó un cuestionario ad hoc en relación a la percepción que tenían los estudiantes sobre la utilidad de cada actividad, la carga de trabajo, la organización de los contenidos, el sistema de evaluación y el grado de satisfacción.

Simulació d'activitats professionals a l'oficina de farmàcia des de l'assignatura Gestió i Planificació

L’assignatura Gestió i Planificació és una assignatura obligatòria en la menció Farmàcia Assistencial i Anàlisis Clíniques del Pla d’estudis del Grau de Farmàcia de l’any 2009 i el seu objectiu és aconseguir que els alumnes obtinguin els coneixements que els permetin assolir la capacitat de direcció i gestió necessàries en professionals sanitaris, que intentaran aconseguir la màxima rendibilitat de les oficines de farmàcia i serveis farmacèutics on desenvoluparan la seva activitat laboral, una rendibilitat encara més necessària en un temps marcat per la crisi i les retallades en sanitat. Es tracta d‘una assignatura que com totes les impartides per la Unitat d’Història de la Farmàcia, Legislació i Gestió Farmacèutiques és diferent de les altres que formen part de la carrera, en situar-se en un àmbit que interrelaciona el món del medicament i la farmàcia amb les ciències socials.

Allelic diversity and population structure in Vibrio cholerae O139 Bengal based on nucleotide sequence analysis

Comparative analysis of gene fragments of six housekeeping loci, distributed around the two chromosomes of Vibrio cholerae, has been carried out for a collection of 29 V. cholerae O139 Bengal strains isolated from India during the first epidemic period (1992 to 1993). A toxigenic O1 ElTor strain from the seventh pandemic and an environmental non-O1/non-O139 strain were also included in this study. All loci studied were polymorphic, with a small number of polymorphic sites in the sequenced fragments. The genetic diversity determined for our O139 population is concordant with a previous multilocus enzyme electrophoresis study in which we analyzed the same V. cholerae O139 strains. In both studies we have found a higher genetic diversity than reported previously in other molecular studies. The results of the present work showed that O139 strains clustered in several lineages of the dendrogram generated from the matrix of allelic mismatches between the different genotypes, a finding which does not support the hypothesis previously reported that the O139 serogroup is a unique clone. The statistical analysis performed in the V. cholerae O139 isolates suggested a clonal population structure. Moreover, the application of the Sawyer's test and split decomposition to detect intragenic recombination in the sequenced gene fragments did not indicate the existence of recombination in our O139 population.
