Towards and ab initio description of magnetism in ionic solids

The physical contributions to the KNiF3 magnetic exchange coupling integral have been obtained from specially designed ab initio cluster model calculations. Three important mechanisms have been identified. These are the delocalization of the magnetic orbitals into the anion p band, the variational contribution of the second-order interactions, and the many-body terms hidden in the two-body operator and the Heisenberg Hamiltonian.

A review of the Tripterygion tripteronotus (Risso, 1810) complex, with a description of a new species from the Mediterranean Sea (Teleostei: Tripterygiidae)

We compared specimens of Tripterygion tripteronotus from 52 localities of the Mediterranean Sea and adjacent waters, using four gene sequences (12S rRNA, tRNA-valine, 16S rRNA and COI) and morphological characters. Two well-differentiated clades with a mean genetic divergence of 6.89±0.73% were found with molecular data, indicating the existence of two different species. These two species have disjunctive geographic distribution areas without any molecular hybrid populations. Subtle but diagnostic morphological differences were also present between the two species. T. tripteronotus is restricted to the northern Mediterranean basin, from the NE coast of Spain to Greece and Turkey, including the islands of Malta and Cyprus. T. tartessicum n. sp. is geographically distributed along the southern coast of Spain, from Cape of La Nao to the Gulf of Cadiz, the Balearic Islands and northern Africa, from Morocco to Tunisia. According to molecular data, these two species could have diverged during the Pliocene glaciations 2.7-3.6 Mya.

bolism. Surgery was needed in 51% of cases and mortality was 42%. Prosthetic valve endocarditis (nine of 60, 13%) predominated in the aortic position and was associated with abscess formation, required surgery, and high mortality (78%). Pacemaker lead IE (seven of 69, 10%) is associated with a better prognosis when antibiotic treatment is combined with surgery. Conclusions:S lugdunensis IE is an uncommon cause of IE, involving mainly native left sided valves, and it is characterised by an aggressive clinical course. Mortality in left sided native valve IE is high but the prognosis has improved in recent years. Surgery has improved survival in left sided IE and, therefore, early surgery should always be considered. Prosthetic valve S lugdunensis IE carries an ominous prognosis.

Description of a rare isopod crustacean, Arcturella poorei sp. nov. (Isopoda: Valvifera: Arcturidae), from the Atlantic seaboard of Cadiz (Iberian Peninsula)

This paper describes a new species of arcturidean isopod, Arcturella poorei, from the Atlantic seaboard of Cadiz (Spain). A diagnosis and description of the species is presented, and a comparison with other species of the genus from the area.

Cáncer y precáncer bucal: evolución conceptual

En este trabajo se presenta una revisión bibliográfica actualizada sobre lesiones precancerosas y cáncer de la mucosa oral, presentando datos epidemiológicos correspondientes a España y Portugal. Por otro lado, se justifica el papel fundamental y la responsabilidad del odontólogo/estomatólogo en el diagnóstico precoz y la prevención de esta patología.

Dentro de la etiopatogenia de las maloclusiones y entre los hábitos orales, tenemos la succión digital, y el dedo pulgar con mayor frecuencia, como una de las formas más influyentes en la deformación maxilar y maloclusión subsiguiente. En este artículo se hace un repaso de las diferentes teorías que, a lo largo de la historia, han ido ilustrando las opiniones de los diferentes autores, tanto a favor como en contra del hábito de succión del pulgar.

Anàlisi dels coneixements intuïtius i del canvi conceptual en infants de parvulari, sobre els animals que viuen el seu entorn

En aquest projecte es reflexiona sobre l’ensenyament de les ciències al parvulari i com els infants aprenent conceptes relacionats amb el regne animal. La ciència escolar classifica la gran diversitat d’espècies que formen aquest regne en dos grans blocs, els vertebrats i els invertebrats, però en els patrons que ens ofereixen els animals per descobrir a ull nu aquestes particularitats són molt complexes d’observar. La visió que tenen els infants de parvulari sobre els animals del seu entorn sovint és molt allunyada de la realitat i els alumnes es creen concepcions alternatives per entendre els animals que observen. En l’estudi es realitza un recull de dades, a l’inici i el final d’una unitat didàctica, analitzant les representacions i les diferents formes de classificació dels animals de l’entorn que utilitzen els infants. Les conclusions són una reflexió sobre el perquè d’aquests coneixements alternatius i la manera de com aconseguir un canvi conceptual.

Per un patrimoni conceptual de J.-J. Rousseau

Més enllà de les controvèrsies sobre l’obra de Jean-Jacques Rousseau, el cert és que la seva obra i la mitologia que al seu entorn s’ha construït formen part del que podríem anomenar el patrimoni conceptual de la pedagogia.1 Escrits i idees, matèria i pensament, però també proposta i resposta, formarien, per tant, l’elenc dels elements a l’entorn de la seva figura als quals s’ha atorgat valor. Tres elements que, en si mateixos, representen una aportació a la pedagogia, tant per allò que s’esdevingué com per les reaccions que provocà. De tal manera que bé podem afirmar que aquest autor esdevé com un dels fonaments de la memòria pedagògica. En aquest sentit, no és estrany que, en ocasió del tricentenari del seu naixement, hagin estat diverses les iniciatives per a la difusió de la seva biografia, del seu pensament i, també, del deixant que les seves propostes han tingut.

Place branding : a conceptual and theoretical framework

Within the context of rising competition between territories, identity has become the most important element of recognition, differentiation and commodification in the communicative process within which cities, regions and countries position themselves. Geographical spaces thus compete in terms of this identity, which is then subjected to fierce comparison and competition (Nogué, 1999; Anholt, 2007a). The territorial brand thus entails the reinvention of places through a process of brand construction (branding) based on the promotion of the individual and collective identities of geographical spaces; these identities, in turn, are imbued with the intangible factors associated with their respective territorial identities.

El documento recoge los hitos del desarrollo de Pintoresco, una aplicación orientada a la evaluación de los procesos de aprendizaje conceptual que se examinan a partir de su uso por usuario ordinario. La aplicación permite obtener datos del proceso de aprendizaje conceptual en un contexto en que la estructura interna de las clases en que se produce una partición no depende de las propiedades específicas de los patrones de estímulo que son distintos para cada usuario sino de la forma lógica de la propia partición.

Local description of quantum inseparability

We show how to decompose any density matrix of the simplest binary composite systems, whether separable or not, in terms of only product vectors. We determine for all cases the minimal number of product vectors needed for such a decomposition. Separable states correspond to mixing from one to four pure product states. Inseparable states can be described as pseudomixtures of four or five pure product states, and can be made separable by mixing them with one or two pure product states.

Thermostatistical description of small systems in nonequilibrium conditions: Energy conversion and harvesting

Hysteresis cycles are very important features of energy conversion and harvesting devices, such as batteries. The efficiency of these may be strongly affected by the physical size of the system. Here, we show that in systems which are small enough, the existence of physical boundaries which produce nonhomogeneities of the interaction potential gives rise to inflections and barriers in the associated free energy. This in turn brings on irreversible processes which can be triggered under suitable external conditions imposed by a heat bath. As an example, by controlling the temperature, the state of a small system may be impelled to oscillate between two different structural configurations or aggregation states avoiding equilibrium coexistence and therefore dissipating energy. This cyclical behavior associated with a hysteresis cycle may be prototypical of energy conversion, storage, or generating nanodevices, as exemplified by Li-ion insertion batteries.

Teniendo en cuenta que la imagen turística ha sido reconocida como uno de los elementos más influyentes para la competitividad de los destinos turísticos, el principal objetivo de este artículo es construir un marco conceptual que muestre la influencia de la red relacional del destino en su imagen emitida. En este contexto, se asume que la imagen tu rística es una construcción social resultante de lainteracción de los distintos agentes que intervienen en el destino turístico (administraciones públicas, instituciones locales, empresas turísticas, etc.); y se propone un modelo teórico para mostrar los efectos de la red relacional del destino turístico en la calidad de la imagen turística creada en términos de conocimiento generado y, por tanto, en su competitividad

L'educació des del punt de vista racional. El currículum conceptual i procediment evolutiu, els programes de desenvolupament intel·lectual

L’article centra, en primer lloc, el sentit del títol: l’educació que potencia la refl exió lògica i racional, suportada en el còrtex cerebral, i la situació educativa actual, que no té establert amb claredat un currículum educatiu específi c per a l’ensenyament obligatori sobre actituds, sociabilitat, valors, emocionabilitat i creativitat. D’altra banda, es propugnen programes de desenvolupament intellectual molt útils, molts dels quals se centren en el treball que suporta la part cortical del cervell: lògica i operacions mentals deductives, inductives… Per tant, tenim currículums centrats en aspectes racionals que, paradoxalment, requereixen programes transversals sobre aspectes també racionals i, a més, obliden aspectes emocionals i creatius. Finalment, es fan dues propostes-suggeriments: una revisió del currículum basada en les aportacions de les neurociències, i la focalització del currículum en el desenvolupament harmònic de la persona, centrat en quatre pilars: Saber, Fer, Estar i Innovar. Les recents lleis educatives, però, no ho contemplen.
