Quality management has become a strategic issue for organisations and is very valuable to produce quality software. However, quality management systems (QMS) are not easy to implement and maintain. The authors' experience shows the benefits of developing a QMS by first formalising it using semantic web ontologies and then putting them into practice through a semantic wiki. The QMS ontology that has been developed captures the core concepts of a traditional QMS and combines them with concepts coming from the MPIu'a development process model, which is geared towards obtaining usable and accessible software products. Then, the ontology semantics is directly put into play by a semantics-aware tool, the Semantic MediaWiki. The developed QMS tool is being used for 2 years by the GRIHO research group, where it has manages almost 50 software development projects taking into account the quality management issues. It has also been externally audited by a quality certification organisation. Its users are very satisfied with their daily work with the tool, which manages all the documents created during project development and also allows them to collaborate, thanks to the wiki features.

Semantic Web applications take off is being slower than expected, at least with respect to “real-world” applications and users. One of the main reasons for this lack of adoption is that most Semantic Web user interfaces are still immature from the usability and accessibility points of view. This is due to the novelty of these technologies, but this also motivates the exploration of alternative interaction paradigms, different from the “traditional” Web or Desktop applications ones. Our proposal is realized in the Rhizomer platform, which explores the possibilities of the object–action interaction paradigm at the Web scale. This paradigm is well suited for heterogeneous resource spaces such as those common in the Semantic Web. Resources, described by metadata, correspond to the objects in the paradigm. Semantic web services, which are dynamically associated to these objects, correspond to the actions. The platform is being put into practice in the context of a research project in order to build an open application for media distribution based on Semantic Web technologies. Moreover, its usability and accessibility have been evaluated in this real setting and compared to similar systems.

Although usability evaluations have been focused on assessing different contexts of use, no proper specifications have been addressed towards the particular environment of academic websites in the Spanish-speaking context of use. Considering that this context involves hundreds of millions of potential users, the AIPO Association is running the UsabAIPO Project. The ultimate goal is to promote an adequate translation of international standards, methods and ideal values related to usability in order to adapt them to diverse Spanish-related contexts of use. This article presents the main statistical results coming from the Second and Third Stages of the UsabAIPO Project, where the UsabAIPO Heuristic method (based on Heuristic Evaluation techniques) and seven Cognitive Walkthroughs were performed over 69 university websites. The planning and execution of the UsabAIPO Heuristic method and the Cognitive Walkthroughs, the definition of two usability metrics, as well as the outline of the UsabAIPO Heuristic Management System prototype are also sketched.

Introducción: Las decisiones de gestión configuran una parte importante del contexto organizativo para la prestación de cuidados. En la literatura científica se encuentran evidencias del impacto del contexto organizativo y de la pericia de los profesionales en los resultados. Puesto que el contexto organizativo está influido por las decisiones de gestión y la toma de decisiones está directamente relacionada con el nivel de competencia de cada profesional, es de esperar que en la práctica existan múltiples visiones sobre una misma situación, que precipiten dilemas éticos en los que la enfermera gestora deberá actuar. Objetivo: Presentar una revisión reflexiva sobre los aspectos éticos de actualidad en la gestión enfermera como herramienta esencial en el desarrollo de pericia para la toma de decisiones. Método: Revisión interpretativa y discusión de la literatura científica actual sobre las cuestiones ético-morales en el ámbito de la gestión asistencial y directiva enfermera: conflictos de valores, dilemas éticos, competencia ética, sufrimiento moral, redes relacionales, whistleblowing y comportamientos negativos. Resultados y conclusiones: Gestionar el equilibrio entre los valores y las prioridades, en el marco del cumplimiento de los principios empresariales de eficiencia, efectividad y productividad puede chocar con los valores profesionales de respeto a la dignidad, equidad, beneficencia, calidad y seguridad, por lo que se requieren enfermeras gestoras con un grado elevado de competencia ética, capaces de abordar la emergencia de los dilemas que surgen en la práctica. Los directivos de las empresas sanitarias no deberían obviar la promoción de redes relacionales positivas y las políticas de gestión de los comportamientos negativos y abordar las cuestiones relacionadas con la cultura del silencio.
