La detecció de soques hipovirulentes a Catalunya ha fet necessari l'estudi genètic de Cryphonectria hypovirus. Mitjançant mostrejos, es van obtenir les soques hipovirulentes i es va comprovar el seu caràcter hipovirulent mitjançant l'extracció del dsRNA. Mitjançant RT-PCR i RFLP es va estudiar la diversitat genètica de les poblacions de Cryphonectria hypovirus. En aquest estudi s'ha observat que la hipovirulència a Catalunya és encara un fenomen localitzat. D'altra banda, s'ha obervat certa diversitat genètica del hipovirus, fet que suggereix que C. hypovirus va ser introduït a Catalunya reiterades vegades. Aquestes reiterades introduccions de C. hypovirus també s'han observat a nivell parcel•lari. La majoria de les mostres pertanyen al subtipus CHV1-I, la qual cosa significa que és d'esperar un increment de la presència del hipovirus a les masses, en ser aquest subtipus el més adequat per dispersar en el medi. S'han detectat altres soques amb patrons RFLP encara no descrits, que podrien pertànyer a altres subtipus. Per tant, s'hauria de fer un estudi genètic més detallat d'aquestes mostres. D'altra banda, hi ha certa diversitat de GCVs associada a les soques amb l'hipovirus. Aquest fet podria suggerir que els GCVs presents a Catalunya tenen una bona capacitat per transmetre el virus o bé seria una altra evidència que C. hypovirus ha estat introduït reiteradament a Catalunya. Finalment s'ha detectat una zona especialment interessant amb diversitat de hipovirus i amb hipovirus encara no descrits, així com soques que podrien pertànyer a CHV1-E. Això suggereix que a la zona podria haver encara més diversitat del hipovirus i per tant podria ser interessant realitzar-hi nous mostreigs.

El bosc mediterrani ens proporciona una gran quantita de productes i serveis que poden contribuir a la riquesa i el benestar de la societat. La combinació dels diferents productes i serveis a través de models de gestió forestal multiobjectiu, com és el cas de la producció de fusta i bolets, permet avançar cap a la millora del potencial productiu del bosc i la preservació de les masses forestals.

Stellar-mass black holes have all been discovered through X-ray emission, which arises from the accretion of gas from their binary companions (this gas is either stripped from low-mass stars or supplied as winds from massive ones). Binary evolution models also predict the existence of black holes accreting from the equatorial envelope of rapidly spinning Be-type stars (stars of the Be type are hot blue irregular variables showing characteristic spectral emission lines of hydrogen). Of the ~80 Be X-ray binaries known in the Galaxy, however, only pulsating neutron stars have been found as companions. A black hole was formally allowed as a solution for the companion to the Be star MWC 656 (also known as HD 215227), although that was based on a single radial velocity curve of the Be star, a mistaken spectral classification and rough estimates of the inclination angle. Here we report observations of an accretion disk line mirroring the orbit of the Be star. This, together with an improved radial velocity curve of the Be star through fitting sharp Fe II profiles from the equatorial disk, and a refined Be classification (to that of a B1.5-B2 III star), reveals a black hole of 3.8 to 6.9 solar masses orbiting MWC 656, the candidate counterpart of the gamma-ray source AGL J2241+4454. The black hole is X-ray quiescent and fed by a radiatively inefficient accretion flow giving a luminosity less than 1.6 x 10-7 times the Eddington luminosity. This implies that Be binaries with black-hole companions are difficult to detect by conventional X-ray surveys.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to analyse the impact of business exits on future dimensions of entrepreneurial activity at the macroeconomic level. Design/methodology/approach: This research uses the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) data for 41 countries and the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) to carry out the analysis. The paper differentiates the effect of the two components of total entrepreneurial activity, and the two motivations for it – opportunity and necessity entrepreneurship. Findings: The results presented here show a positive and significant effect of the coefficient associated with exits in all models. This means that the levels of entrepreneurial activity exceed business exits. The robustness of the models are tested, including other variables such as the fear of failure, the Gross Domestic Product, role models, entrepreneurial skills and the unemployment variables. The main hypothesis which stated that at national level business exits imply greater rates of opportunity-driven entrepreneurship is corroborated. Originality/value: One would expect that unemployment rates would imply higher levels of necessity entrepreneurship. However, results show that unemployment rates do in fact favour opportunity entrepreneurship levels. This could be due to those government policies that are aimed at promoting entrepreneurship through the capitalization of unemployment to be totally invested in a new start-up. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first panel data study to link previous exit rates to future dimensions of entrepreneurial activity. La investigación de mercados es una herramienta cada vez más utilizada y necesaria en la gestión de todo tipo de empresas u organizaciones. Se basa en metodologías que utilizan técnicas estadísticas y sus resultados son de gran ayuda para la toma de decisiones empresariales. Desgraciadamente, en ocasiones no se tienen en cuenta determinados aspectos o detalles que pueden inducir a falsas conclusiones, en especial cuando se desconocen los fundamentos teóricos sobre las técnicas más frecuentemente utilizadas. En esta exposición, breve resumen de la ponencia impartida en las “III Jornadas de Comunicación”, se exponen las bases estadísticas de la investigación de mercados aplicada a la investigación de medios, y, en particular, a la investigación de las audiencias de televisión. The present study arose from the need to determine inorganic arsenic (iAs) at low levels in cereal-based food. Validated methods with a low limit of detection (LOD) are required to analyse these kinds of food. An analytical method for the determination of iAs, methylarsonic acid (MA) and dimethylarsinic acid (DMA) in cereal-based food and infant cereals is reported. The method was optimised and validated to achieve low LODs. Ion chromatography-inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LC-ICPMS) was used for arsenic speciation. The main quality parameters were established. To expand the applicability of the method, different cereal products were analysed: bread, biscuits, breakfast cereals, wheat flour, corn snacks, pasta and infant cereals. The total and inorganic arsenic content of 29 cereal-based food samples ranged between 3.7-35.6 and 3.1-26.0 microg As kg-1, respectively. The present method could be considered a valuable tool for assessing inorganic arsenic contents in cereal-based foods.

[2,5-Dimethylfuran]-protected maleimides were placed at both internal positions and the 3'-end of oligonucleotides making use of solid-phase synthesis procedures. A new phosphoramidite derivative and a new solid support incorporating the protected maleimide moiety were prepared for this purpose. In all cases maleimide deprotection (retro-Diels-Alder reaction) followed by reaction with thiol-containing compounds afforded the target conjugate.

Adipose tissue (AT) is distributed as large differentiated masses, and smaller depots covering vessels, and organs, as well as interspersed within them. The differences between types and size of cells makes AT one of the most disperse and complex organs. Lipid storage is partly shared by other tissues such as muscle and liver. We intended to obtain an approximate estimation of the size of lipid reserves stored outside the main fat depots. Both male and female rats were made overweight by 4-weeks feeding of a cafeteria diet. Total lipid content was analyzed in brain, liver, gastrocnemius muscle, four white AT sites: subcutaneous, perigonadal, retroperitoneal and mesenteric, two brown AT sites (interscapular and perirenal) and in a pool of the rest of organs and tissues (after discarding gut contents). Organ lipid content was estimated and tabulated for each individual rat. Food intake was measured daily. There was a surprisingly high proportion of lipid not accounted for by the main macroscopic AT sites, even when brain, liver and BAT main sites were discounted. Muscle contained about 8% of body lipids, liver 1-1.4%, four white AT sites lipid 28-63% of body lipid, and the rest of the body (including muscle) 38-44%. There was a good correlation between AT lipid and body lipid, but lipid in"other organs" was highly correlated too with body lipid. Brain lipid was not. Irrespective of dietary intake, accumulation of body fat was uniform both for the main lipid storage and handling organs: large masses of AT (but also liver, muscle), as well as in the"rest" of tissues. These storage sites, in specialized (adipose) or not-specialized (liver, muscle) tissues reacted in parallel against a hyperlipidic diet challenge. We postulate that body lipid stores are handled and regulated coordinately, with a more centralized and overall mechanisms than usually assumed.

The semiclassical Wigner-Kirkwood ̄h expansion method is used to calculate shell corrections for spherical and deformed nuclei. The expansion is carried out up to fourth order in ̄h. A systematic study of Wigner-Kirkwood averaged energies is presented as a function of the deformation degrees of freedom. The shell corrections, along with the pairing energies obtained by using the Lipkin-Nogami scheme, are used in the microscopic-macroscopic approach to calculate binding energies. The macroscopic part is obtained from a liquid drop formula with six adjustable parameters. Considering a set of 367 spherical nuclei, the liquid drop parameters are adjusted to reproduce the experimental binding energies, which yields a root mean square (rms) deviation of 630 keV. It is shown that the proposed approach is indeed promising for the prediction of nuclear masses.

We have compiled optical and radio astrometric data of the microquasar LS 5039 and derived its proper motion. This, together with the distance and radial velocity of the system, allows us to state that this source is escaping from its own regional standard of rest, with a total systemic velocity of about 150 km/s and a component perpendicular to the galactic plane larger than 100 km/s. This is probably the result of an acceleration obtained during the supernova event that created the compact object in this binary system. We have computed the trajectory of LS 5039 in the past, and searched for OB associations and supernova remnants in its path. In particular, we have studied the possible association between LS 5039 and the supernova remnant G016.8-01.1, which, despite our efforts, remains dubious. We have also discovered and studied an HI cavity in the ISM, which could have been created by the stellar wind of LS 5039 or by the progenitor of the compact object in the system. Finally, in the symmetric supernova explosion scenario, we estimate that at least 17 solar masses were lost in order to produce the high eccentricity observed. Such a mass loss could also explain the observed runaway velocity of the microquasar.

Context. The understanding of Galaxy evolution can be facilitated by the use of population synthesis models, which allow to test hypotheses on the star formation history, star evolution, as well as chemical and dynamical evolution of the Galaxy. Aims. The new version of the Besanc¸on Galaxy Model (hereafter BGM) aims to provide a more flexible and powerful tool to investigate the Initial Mass Function (IMF) and Star Formation Rate (SFR) of the Galactic disc. Methods. We present a new strategy for the generation of thin disc stars which assumes the IMF, SFR and evolutionary tracks as free parameters. We have updated most of the ingredients for the star count production and, for the first time, binary stars are generated in a consistent way. We keep in this new scheme the local dynamical self-consistency as in Bienayme et al (1987). We then compare simulations from the new model with Tycho-2 data and the local luminosity function, as a first test to verify and constrain the new ingredients. The effects of changing thirteen different ingredients of the model are systematically studied. Results. For the first time, a full sky comparison is performed between BGM and data. This strategy allows to constrain the IMF slope at high masses which is found to be close to 3.0, excluding a shallower slope such as Salpeter"s one. The SFR is found decreasing whatever IMF is assumed. The model is compatible with a local dark matter density of 0.011 M pc−3 implying that there is no compelling evidence for significant amount of dark matter in the disc. While the model is fitted to Tycho2 data, a magnitude limited sample with V<11, we check that it is still consistent with fainter stars. Conclusions. The new model constitutes a new basis for further comparisons with large scale surveys and is being prepared to become a powerful tool for the analysis of the Gaia mission data.

The design and synthesis of two Janus-type heterocycles with the capacity to simultaneously recognize guanine and uracyl in G-U mismatched pairs through complementary hydrogen bond pairing is described. Both compounds were conveniently functionalized with a carboxylic function and efficiently attached to a tripeptide sequence by using solid-phase methodologies. Ligands based on the derivatization of such Janus compounds with a small aminoglycoside, neamine, and its guanidinylated analogue have been synthesized, and their interaction with Tau RNA has been investigated by using several biophysical techniques, including UV-monitored melting curves, fluorescence titration experiments, and 1H NMR. The overall results indicated that Janus-neamine/guanidinoneamine showed some preference for the +3 mutated RNA sequence associated with the development of some tauopathies, although preliminary NMR studies have not confirmed binding to G-U pairs. Moreover, a good correlation has been found between the RNA binding affinity of such Janus-containing ligands and their ability to stabilize this secondary structure upon complexation.

Desde la aparición de la Televisión Digital Terrestre, la industria de la televisión en España ha experimentado un notable cambio. La oferta de canales se ha multiplicado y se ha reconfigurado la propiedad de los mismos. Los modos de aaceso a de los usuarios también han evolucionado y han aparecido nuevas plataformas de acceso a los contenidos televisivos. El presente trabajo define el estado actual de la televisión en España, a través del análisis los grupos que operan en ella y la identificación de las principales tendencias de la industria televisiva en la actualidad.
