Aeromonas hydrophila lateral flagella gene transcriptional hierarchy

Aeromonas hydrophila AH-3 lateral flagella are not assembled when bacteria grow in liquid media; however, lateral flagellar genes are transcribed. Our results indicate that A. hydrophila lateral flagellar genes are transcribed at three levels (class I to III genes) and share some similarities with, but have many important differences from, genes of Vibrio parahaemolyticus. A. hydrophila lateral flagellum class I gene transcription is σ(70) dependent, which is consistent with the fact that lateral flagellum is constitutively transcribed, in contrast to the characteristics of V. parahaemolyticus. The fact that multiple genes are included in class I highlights that lateral flagellar genes are less hierarchically transcribed than polar flagellum genes. The A. hydrophila lafK-fliEJL gene cluster (where the subscript L distinguishes genes for lateral flagella from those for polar flagella) is exclusively from class I and is in V. parahaemolyticus class I and II. Furthermore, the A. hydrophila flgAMNL cluster is not transcribed from the σ(54)/LafK-dependent promoter and does not contain class II genes. Here, we propose a gene transcriptional hierarchy for the A. hydrophila lateral flagella.

Los abordajes terapéuticos propioceptivos efectivos en esguince del ligamento lateral externo de tobillo en deportistas.

Pregunta de revisión: ¿Que abordajes terapéuticos propioceptivos son efectivos en la recuperación de un esguince de tobillo en deportistas? Objetivo: El objetivo principal de este trabajo es identificar los abordajes terapéuticos propioceptivos en un esguince del ligamento lateral externo de tobillo, aplicados en deportistas. Metodología: Consiste en una revisión bibliográfica de las principales fuentes y bases de datos biomédicas: Pubmed, Embase, PEDro, The Cochrane Library y Cinahl. Se han aceptado los artículos más relevantes publicados en los últimos años sobre este tema. Los criterios de exclusión han sido los estudios que trataban el equilibrio y la propiocepción en pacientes neurológicos. Resultados: Se analizaron con la escala de PEDro los resultados de 10 estudios que se adaptan a los criterios de inclusión, sobre los abordajes de propiocepción en un esguince del ligamento lateral externo de tobillo. Conclusiones: Tras sufrir un esguince del ligamento lateral externo de tobillo, el sistema propioceptivo del deportista queda alterado. Los abordajes terapéuticos propioceptivos son efectivos en deportistas con una historia de un esguince de tobillo.

Desenvolupament de prototips (Android/LibGDX i Unity), per a la producció d'un videojoc d'acció lateral amb plataformes (Ouroboros)

Creació de dos prototips, un per Android i l'altre perUnity, establint les bases per a la producció d'un videojoc d'acció lateral (Beat 'em up)amb plataformes (puzles) anomenat "Ouroboros". Android és un sistema operatiu basat en Linux, designat primerament per mòbils tàctils(smartphones) i tabletes. En concret s'utilitzarà el SDK (Software Development Kit) dins del'entorn de programació Eclipse amb llenguatge Java, i les bases d'un frameworkanomenat LibGDX. Unity, en canvi, és un motor de videojocs multi-plataforma amb un entorn dedesenvolupament integrat, del que nosaltres utilitzarem la versió en Javascript.Es volen explorar les dues plataformes per tal d'esbrinar quina de les dues vies és la mésidònia de cares a la producció final d'un joc

Cytosine-and guanine-rich regions of DNA are capable of forming complex structures named i-motifs and G-quadruplexes, respectively. Pattern of injury with a graded excitotoxic insult and ensuing chronic medial septal damage in the rat brain

Brain damage caused by an acute injury depends on the initial severity of the injury and the time elapsed after the injury. To determine whether these two variables activate common mechanisms, we compared the response of the rat medial septum to insult with a graded series of concentrations of a-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazole propionic acid (AMPA) with the time-course effects of a low dose of AMPA. For this purpose we conducted a dose-response study at concentrations of AMPA between 0.27 and 10.8 nmol to measure atrophy of the septal area, losses of cholinergic and GABAergic neurons, astroglial and microglial reactions, and calcification. Cholinergic neurons, whose loss paralleled the degree of septal atrophy produced by AMPA, are more sensitive than GABAergic neurons to the injury produced by AMPA. At doses of AMPA above 2.7 nmol, calcification and the degree of microglial reaction increased only in the GABAergic region of the septal area, whereas atrophy and neuronal loss reached a plateau. We chose the 2.7-nmol dose of AMPA to determine how these parameters were modified between 4 days and 6 months after injection. We found that atrophy and neuronal loss increased progressively through the 6-month study period, whereas astrogliosis ceased to be observed after 1 month, and calcium precipitates were never detected. We conclude that septal damage does not increase with the intensity of an excitotoxic insult. Rather, it progresses continuously after the insult. Because these two situations involve different mechanisms, short-term paradigms are inappropriate for interpreting the pathogenic mechanisms responsible for long-term neurodegenerative processes.

Lateral periodontal cysts: a retrospective study of 11 cases

Objective: To describe the clinical, radiological and histopathological features of lateral periodontal cysts among patients diagnosed in different centers (Vall d"Hebron General Hospital, Granollers General Hospital, the Teknon Medical Center, and the Master of Oral Surgery and Implantology of the University of Barcelona Dental School; Barcelona, Spain). Study design: A retrospective observational study was made of 11 lateral periodontal cysts, all of which were diagnosed following a thorough clinical examination, radiological study and posterior histological study. Results: The mean patient age was 37 years, and males predominated over females. The mean lesion size was 1.25 cm. A single relapse was recorded 7 years after removal of the initial lesion. All the cysts were surgically removed. Discussion and conclusions: Lateral periodontal cysts are very infrequent, and are characterized by the preserved vitality of the adjacent teeth. Identification of the lesion is initially based on the clinical findings, though histological study is required to confirm the diagnosis. The treatment of choice is the surgical removal, though occasional relapses have been documented

Este artículo aporta unos primeros resultados acerca de los énfasis de palabra en titulares televisivos en catalán. De entrada, se subraya la poca sujeción de la palabra sobre la imagen y se sitúan los patrones melódicos más habituales en este contexto informativo. El núcleo del texto se centra en la descripción de los énfasis de palabra ascendente que tienen lugar en los numerales y en palabras con una sílaba acabada en lateral o nasal, y, colateralmente, aborda los énfasis de regularidad y de irregularidad, ya que se caracterizan por ser un conjunto de énfasis de palabra ascendente que se dan de forma regular o irregular en el cuerpo del enunciado.
