Se ha estudiado la lixiviación de concentrados de cobre con alto contenido de arsénico (hasta 2,5 %), mediante un proceso de oxidación con cloro formado 'in situ', por la reacción entre hipoclorito de sodio y ácido sulfúrico. El objetivo de estas experiencias es producir una solución de lixiviación, de características adecuadas para entrar a la etapa posterior de extracción por solventes (SX), es decir, entre 4 a 6 g/1 de cobre y 5 a 7 g/1 de ácido residual. Esta disolución, además, deberá contener cantidades mínimas de arsénico y cloruro. Las lixiviaciones se realizaron por agitación en un reactor de acrílico diseñado para tal efecto, a temperatura ambiente y a presión atmosférica. Se utilizaron concentrados de cobre de explotaciones mineras de Antofagasta (Chile). Se estudiaron algunas variables típicas de la lixiviación, como son: la concentración de agente lixiviante, el tiempo de lixiviación, el porcentaje de sólidos y la temperatura. La caracterización de algunos residuos sólidos, producto de las lixiviaciones, se realizó por DRX (Difracción de Rayos X) y EDS (Barrido de Energía Dispersiva de Rayos X). El cobre y arsénico en las disoluciones se analizaron mediante Espectroscopia de Absorción Atómica. Los resultados experimentales indican que es posible obtener soluciones de las características deseadas con este procedimiento, que utiliza reactivos comunes y de relativo bajo costo.

The effects of diet composition and ration size on the activities of key enzymes involved in intermediary metabolism were studied in the liver of gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata). Highcarbohydrate, low-protein diets stimulated 6-phosphofructo 1-kinase (EC 2.7.1.11), pyruvate kinase (EC 2.7.1.40), glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.1.49) and 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.1.44) enzyme activities, while they decreased alanine aminotransferase (EC 2.6.1.2) activity. A high degree of correlation was found between food ration size and the activity of the enzymes 6-phosphofructo 1-kinase, pyruvate kinase, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (positive correlations) and fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase (EC 3.1.3.11) (negative correlation). These correlations matched well with the high correlation also found between ration size and growth rate in starved fish refed for 22 d. Limited feeding (5 g/kg body weight) for 22 d decreased the activities of the key enzymes for glycolysis and lipogenesis, and alanine aminotransferase activity. The findings presented here indicate a high level of metabolic adaptation to both diet type and ration size. In particular, adaptation of enzyme activities to the consumption of a diet with a high carbohydrate level suggests that a carnivorous fish like Sparus aurata can tolerate partial replacement of protein by carbohydrate in the commercial diets supplied in culture. The relationship between enzyme activities, ration size and fish growth indicates that the enzymes quickly respond to dietary manipulations of cultured fish.

Two vegetable wastes, cork bark and grape stalks, were investigated for the removal of methylene blue from aqueous solution. The effects of contact time, dye concentration, pH, and temperature on sorption were studied relative to adsorption on a commercially-activated carbon. The highest adsorption yield was obtained within the pH range 5 to 10 for grape stalks and 7 to 10 for cork bark. The sorption kinetics of dye onto activated carbon and grape stalks was very fast. Kinetics data were fitted to the pseudo-first and second order kinetic equations, and the values of the pseudo-second-order initial rate constants were found to be 1.69 mg g-1 min-1 for activated carbon, 2.24 mg g-1 min-1 for grape stalks, and 0.90 mg g-1 min-1 for cork bark. Langmuir maximum sorption capacities for activated carbon, grape stalks, and cork bark for methylene blue estimated by the Orthogonal Distance Regression method (ODR) were 157.5 mg g-1, 105.6 mg g-1, and 30.52 mg g-1, respectively. FTIR spectra indicated that carboxylic groups and lignin play a significant role in the sorption of methylene blue. Electrostatic forces, n-p interactions, cation-p, and p-p stacking interactions contribute to methylene blue sorption onto grape stalks and cork bark.
