Diagnosi d'una llei franquista: la Llei de Redempció de Censos de 1945

El 31 de desembre de 1945 les cons franquistes van aprovar una Llei de Redempció de Censos específica per a Catalunya. Es tractava d'una llei que permetia als censataris, és a dir, als emfiteutes, als propietaris de finques gravades amb censos, d'accedir a la propietat plena de les "seves" finques, és a dir, de les finques de les quals eren titulars del domini útil. D'entrada, la promulgació d'una llei com aquesta, en el marc d'un règim franquista, pot provocar un cert desconcert. En el discurs historiogràfic dominant sobre l'Espanya contemporània, la supervivència dels censos ha estat vista com una prova de la supervivència dels drets feudals, és a dir, com una clara rèmora del passat, com una evidencia del caràcter incomplet de la revolució liberal, i també com un obstacle al desenvolupament agrari i, per tant, al creixement econòmic'. Una llei de redempció de censos ha tendit a ser vista, en aquest context, com una llei clarament beneficiosa per al conjunt de la societat i, en particular, per a la pagesia i els sectors més populars. El corol·lari que es deriva d’aquesta percepció implica, admetem-ho, una visió favorable al paper del franquisme: aquest regim hauria exercit, en aquest terreny específic de les relacions socials agràries, un paper modernitzadori, i també, un paper clarament favorable a les classes populars

L'espionatge soviètic (1917-1945): una forma de control social

L'espionatge és una pràctica que, en tant que poc coneguda pel seu component fosc i discret, ha estat present en la Història de la Humanitat des de l‟Edat Mitjana fins als nostres dies. El present treball intenta dur a terme un estat de la qüestió sobre el paper de l‟espionatge soviètic en la primera meitat del segle XX, concretament, des del naixement de l‟Estat bolxevic (la Revolució Russa de 1917) fins a la fi de la Segona Guerra Mundial (el 1945). En aquest sentit, els àmbits analitzats comporten una diversitat que deixa palesa la complexitat de l‟entramat burocràtic i organitzatiu adjacent a aquest ofici. També geogràficament esdevé una tasca transversal estesa per tot el Planeta. Així també, els paràmetres emprats per l‟espionatge soviètic no comprenen límits i les purgues acabaran esdevenint l‟únic instrument possible per a aconseguir imposar el seu gran propòsit: La Revolució Socialista Mundial. Entès com a una pràctica dirigida pel propi Stalin, a voltes oberta a voltes oculta, l‟espionatge també acabarà esdevenint una tasca per a espiar els propis espies la majoria dels quals seran titllats de traïdors, trotskistes i feixistes

El delito de trata de personas: análisis del nuevo artículo 177 bis CP desde la óptica del cumplimiento de compromisos internacionales de incriminación

El artículo analiza los elementos esenciales del nuevo delito de trata de personas que incorporado al CP mediante la reforma de 2010. Asimismo explora la tipificación de la trata de personas en Derecho comparado, los compromisos internacionales adquiridos por el Estado español acerca de la incriminación de esta conducta y su nivel de cumplimiento con el nuevo delito.

'Making Science Understandable'. Divulgació científica i mediació editorial: el cas de The Wisdom of the Body de Walter B. Cannon (1871-1945)

The present paper aims at an historical reconstruction, in the framework of the publishing industry in the years between the two World Wars, of the role played by the publisher William W. Norton in the genesis, published in 1932, and new edition in 1938, of Walter B. Cannon"s book The Wisdom of the Body. With the analysis of this case study, we aimed at contributing to the current criticism of the «dominant view», which tries, in an uncritical manner, that scientific popularization follows an ineluctable, continuous and linear evolution.

Brideshead Revisited (1945) by Evelyn Waugh (1903-1966): the benefit of an Arcadian experience in confronting the human tragedy

As the frontispiece of Book One of Evelyn Waugh’s Brideshead Revisited, the phrase ‘Et in Arcadia ego’ announces the author’s intention of making the classical Arcadian theme a key reference in a text that speaks of nostalgia for a joyful past in times marked by sadness and pain. However, an interpretation may be approached from several directions even within the classical tradition. Thus, without ignoring philological or artistic aspects of the topic, this article focuses on a close study of the author’s most original message: the notion that a youthful Arcadian experience confers on young men and women a ‘residue of happiness’ able to sustain their future development and assist them in dealing with the challenges of personal tragedy.

Selective Ortho-Hydroxylation–Defluorination of 2-Fluorophenolates with a Bis(m-oxo)dicopper(III) Species

The bis(mu-oxo) dicopper(III) species [Cu-III 2(mu-O)(2)(m-XYLMeAN)](2+) (1) promotes the electrophilic ortho-hydroxylation-defluorination of 2-fluorophenolates to give the corresponding catechols, a reaction that is not accomplishable with a (eta(2) : eta(2)-O-2) dicopper(II) complex. Isotopic labeling studies show that the incoming oxygen atom originates from the bis(mu-oxo) unit. Ortho-hydroxylation-defluorination occurs selectively in intramolecular competition with other ortho-substituents such as chlorine or bromine

Synthesis and antiprotozoal activity of oligomethylene- and p-phenylene-bis(methylene)-linked bis(+)-huprines

We have synthesized a series of dimers of (+)-(7R,11R)-huprine Y and evaluated their activity against Trypanosoma brucei, Plasmodium falciparum, rat myoblast L6 cells and human acetylcholinesterase (hAChE), and their brain permeability. Most dimers have more potent and selective trypanocidal activity than huprine Y and are brain permeable, but they are devoid of antimalarial activity and remain active against hAChE. Lead optimization will focus on identifying compounds with a more favourable trypanocidal/anticholinesterase activity ratio.
