This paper focuses on the importance of consumers’ habits, preferences and needs in the Croatian wine market to have a better understanding of consumer purchase and consumption behavior. Survey was conducted on Croatian consumers to identify purchasing variables and explain consumer attitudes and behaviors. Along with the online survey, results were also provided using additional journals and research examples. Both measures offered a better understanding of the issues mentioned. Additionally, both may be used in order to implement effective marketing strategies. The results are essential for the preservation of Croatian wine and purchase growth, but also consumption. Moreover, they offer foundations on which to improve Croatian wine offering.

Nowadays, data available and used by companies is growing very fast creating the need to use and manage this data in the most efficient way. To this end, data is replicated overmultiple datacenters and use different replication protocols, according to their needs, like more availability or stronger consistency level. The costs associated with full data replication can be very high, and most of the times, full replication is not needed since information can be logically partitioned. Another problem, is that by using datacenters to store and process information clients become heavily dependent on them. We propose a partial replication protocol called ParTree, which replicates data to clients, and organizes clients in a hierarchy, using communication between them to propagate information. This solution addresses some of these problems, namely by supporting partial data replication and offline execution mode. Given the complexity of the protocol, the use of formal verification is crucial to ensure the protocol two correctness properties: causal consistency and preservation of data. The use of TLA+ language and tools to formally specificity and verify the proposed protocol are also described.

According to an ancient folkloric legend, Our Lady, stepping down from the sea, would have rided on a mule to the platform above the cliffs named Pedra da Mua at Lagosteiros'bay, near Espichel cape. Mule's footprints, regarded by fishermen as evidence, would be clearly recognizable on exposed surfaces of the rocks. Indeed there are footprints but from Dinosaurs of latest Jurassic, Portlandian age, this spectacular locality being specially rich in giant Sauropod tracks (that have seldom been found elsewhere in Europe). As we proceeded to its study, another locality with Dinosaur footprints, Lower Cretaceous (Hauterivian) in age, was found on the northern cliffs at Lagosteiros. It is probably the richest one in european Lower Cretaceous and the only of this age known in Portugal, so we decided to give priority to its study. Dinosaur tracks have been printed on calciclastic sands in a lagoonal environment protected by fringing coral reefs. There have been emersion episodes; beaches were frequented by Dinosaurs. Later on, the marine barremian ingression restablished a gulf and such animals could not come here any more. Under a paleogeographical viewpoint, the evidence of a marine regression near the end of Hauterivian is to be remarked. Five types of tracks and footprints have been recognized: - Neosauropus lagosteirensis, new morphogenus and species, tracks from a giant Sauropod, perhaps from Camarasaurus; with its proportions the total length of the author would be about 15,5 m. These are the only Sauropod tracks known till now in Europe's Lower Cretaceous. - tracks from a not so big quadruped, maybe a Sauropod (young individual?); however it is not impossible that they were produced by Stegosaurians or Ankylosaurians. -Megalosauropus (?Eutynichnium) gomesi new morphospecies, four Theropod tracks most probably produced by megalosaurs. - Iguanodon sp., represented by some footprints and specially by a set corresponding to the feet and tail from an individual standing in a rest position. - problematical, quite small-sized biped (maybe an Ornithopod related to Camptosaurus). Evidence points to a richer fauna than that known in barremian "Dinosaur sandstones" from a nearby locality, Boca do Chapim. Lagosteiros' association clearly indicates the predominance of herbivores, which required large amounts of vegetable food in the neighbourhood. This is an indirect evidence of the vegetal wealth, also suggested by associations of plant macrofossils, polen and spores found in early Cretaceous sediments at the same region. The relatively high proportion of Theropoda is related to the wealth of the whole fauna, which comprised a lot of the prey needed by such powerful flesh-eaters. The evidence, as a whole, points out to a warm and moist climate. All the tracks whose direction could be measured are directed to the southern quadrants, this being confirmed by the approximative direction of other footprints. Massive displacements (migration?) could take place during a brief emersion episode. This may result from the ingression of barremian seas, flooding the region and restablishing here a small gulf. Even if the arrival of the waters damaged certain footprints it has not destroyed them completely, thus allowing the preservation of such evidence from a remote past.

Os receptores não são, por sua vez, prejudicados por receberem um fígado PAF, havendo mesmo benefícios no pós-operatório imediato e, eventualmente, alguns grupos específicos de doentes podem mesmo ser beneficiados.---------ABSTRACT: Ever since Bethesda statement in 1983, Liver Transplantation has been accepted as a clinical therapeutic procedure for many patients with advanced hepatic failure Holmgren, professor of genetics, suggested that one could expect that transplanting a new liver could lead to improve progressive neurological symptoms of Familial Amyloidotic Polyneuropathy (PAF). Bo Ericzon, the transplant surgeon at Huddinge Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden, did in 1991 the first Liver Transplant on a FAP patient. FAP is an inherited autosomal dominant neurologic disease in which the liver, otherwise structural an functionally normal, produces more than 90% of an abnormal protein (TTR Met30) whose deposits are responsible for symptoms. Liver Transplantation is currently the only efficient therapy available for FAP patients. Portugal is the country in the world where FAP is most prevalent. The Portuguese neurologist Corino de Andrade was the first to recognize in 1951 this particular form of inherited polyneuropathy, which is also known by the name of Andrade disease. Liver Transplantation started as a program in Portugal in September 1992. The first patient transplanted in Lisbon, Hospital Curry Cabral, was a FAP patient. From the beginning we did realize that competition among waiting lists of FAP and Hepatic patients would come to be a complex problem we had to deal with, on clinical and ethical grounds. There was one possible way-out. FAP livers could be of some utility themselves as liver grafts. Anatomically and functionally normal, except for the inherited abnormal trace, those livers could possibly be transplanted in selected hepatic patients. Nevertheless the FAP liver carried with it the ability to produce the mutant TTR protein. One could expect, considering the natural history of the disease that several decades would lapse before the recipient could suffer symptomatic neurologic disease, if at all. In Coimbra, Portugal, Linhares Furtado performed in 1995 the first transplant of a FAP liver to a patient with metastatic malignant disease, as a sequential or “domino” transplant. FAP Liver Transplant patients, because of some dysautonomic labiality and unexpected reactions when they are subjected to surgery, take special advantage when piggyback technique is used for hepatectomy. This technique leaves the vena cava of the patient undisturbed, so that return of blood to the heart is affected minimally, so that veno-venous extracorporeal bypass will not be necessary. The advantages of piggyback technique could not be afforded to FAP patients who became donors for sequential liver transplantation, before we did introduce our liver reconstruction technique in 2001. The hepatectomy took the vena cava together with the liver, which is the classical technique, and the use of extracorporeal veno-venous bypass was of necessity in most cases. The reconstruction technique we developed in our center and used for the first time in the world in 2001 consists in applying venous grafts to the supra-hepatic ostia of piggyback resected FAP livers so that the organ could be grafted to a hepatic patient whose liver was itself resected with preservation of the vena cava. This is the double piggyback sequential transplant of the liver. It is the objective of this thesis to evaluate the results of this technique that we did introduce, first of all that it is reliable and reproducible, secondly that the FAP donor is not subjected to any additional harm during the procedure, and finally that the recipient has the same prospects of a successful transplant as if the liver was collected from a cadaver donor. Our series of liver transplantation on FAP patients and sequential liver transplants represent both the largest experience in the world. To achieve the analysis of the questions mentioned above, we did refer to our data-base from September 1992 to November 2008. The reconstructive technique that we did introduce is feasible: it could be done with success in every case ion our series. It is also reproducible. It has been adopted by many international centers of reference that did mention it in their own publications. We do refer to our data-base in what concerns the safety for the FAP donor.Five years survival of FAP transplanted patients that have been donors (n=190) has been slightly superior to those who were not (n=77), with no statistical significance. However, if we consider five year survival of FAP transplanted patients after the beginning of sequential transplant program in our center, survival is better among those patients whose liver was used as a transplant (87% survival versus 71%, p=0.047). In what concerns recipients of FAP livers: Some short-term benefit of less perioperative morbi-mortality mainly less hemorrhage. In some groups of particular pathologies, there is a strong suggestion of better survival, however the scarcity of numbers make the differences not statistically significant. Patients with cirrhosis HVC (83% versus73%) and patients with primitive hepatic cancer within Milan criteria (survival of 70% versus 58%) are good examples. There is one relevant problem we left beyond discussion in the present work: this is the long-term impact of possible recurrence of FAP symptoms among recipients of sequential transplants. In Conclusion: The reconstruction technique that we did develop and introduce is consistently workable and reproducible. It is safe for FAP donors with the advantage that removal of vena cava can be avoided. Hepatic patients transplanted with those livers suffer no disadvantages and have the benefit of less hemorrhage. There is also a suggestion that survival could be better in cirrhosis HVC and primary liver cancer patients.

The populational healthy aging holds part of the process of the human aging agenda, portraying a social concern with the repercussion in societary economies. The aging process when addressed out of the healthy aging paradigm socially disregard the human potential of the elderly, promoting segregation and motivating acts of prejudice and discrimination, in addition to the waste of experience, knowledge, culture and the participatory capacity of an older person in contributting to the society they are a part of. The Brazilian National Health Policy for the Elderly has its main focus in promoting the healthy aging, namely through the maintenance of the functional capacity by valuing the autonomy, physical independence and the mental integrity of the elderly person. The challenge of enabling the process of a successful and active aging lays in maximazing the capabilities, potencialities and personal, communitary and political resources. It infers additionaly a broad view of living, contextualized in the continuum of life, able to express concern with health and well-being, integrating the people in aging phase to the context of the life cycle. Hence, this research aimed to learn the determinants of active and successful aging in a population in aging process and relate them with the "practices/contents" and "representations/meanings" about aging, the physical activities and functional capacity. The investigation was structured in three studies: in the first it was developed and tested the instrument "Active Aging, Functional Capacity and Physical Activity" in the city of Lisboa, Portugal, and afterwards it was culturally and linguistically adapted from Portugal Portuguese to Brazilian Portuguese. The second study was an observational research with survey, descriptive and exploratory methods which aimed to learn the relations established between the successful aging, active aging, the physical activity and the functional capacity of a population in aging process; and the third comprised a qualitative study with the objective to collect the understanding and behavior of the interviewees based on the fact of either they saw themselves as elder or aged person or not. As theoretical framework were explored: active aging, successful aging, multidimensional concept of aging process (personal, familial, social, psycho-communicational, economic determinants), physical activity and functional capacity and explored based in demographic profile and in the European, American a Brazilian realities. Performed triangulation of methods and tecniques (recorded individual interviews, measurements and questionnaires). Participants were aged 60 or older included in two public services for the elderly population in the city of Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais, Brazil and were excluded persons with dependency in both daily activities and instrumental daily activities and the persons with altered level of conciousness. Stratified ramdon sample of 326 participants in which were performed the measurements and typicality sample constructed from the sample basis of 87 participants whereupon the recorded individual interview was performed. Conforming to all the ethical and legal requirements of research with human beings according to the Brazilian legislation. Applied Factor Analysis and selected 11 factors and 31 variables that convey the determinants of the active aging process. Executed reajustment of factor analysis, for conceptual coherence, being selected eight factors named accordingly to the theoretical framework that resulted in 25 variables which approached the participation in activities and access to health care services; to physical activity; to coexistence, interaction and evaluation of social contact; to scholarity and income; to perceived health and volunteering. Used as marker to aerobic activity the profile of weekly physical activity overload in accordance with guidelines and reccomendations for moderate-intensity aerobic activities for older people. Identified that 60,7% of interviewees practice enough physical activity. Anthropometric markers evidence overweight and obesity levels both within men and women. There was correlation between body mass index (BMI) and measures carried out according to age ranges. The inferential analysis allowed relating the active aging determinants, the anthropometric measurements and sociodemographic variables (scholarity and age), obtaining the following highlights: 1) to the extent that age increases, lowers the levels of physical activity practice, of contact with people to talk to (social relationships), of volunteering work and familial and intergenerational relationships; 2) it was identified a conceptual alignment of diferent determinants concurrent to an active aging in light of the physical activity practice with the relationship and interaction of family and with positive self-assessment of perceived health and physical activity; 3) the older the person, lower are scholarity levels; 4) the decrease of the cross-sectional area of the arm and BMI as the age increases portrayed decreased adiposity of the body that is associated with loss of lean body mass. The categorization of the speech of 87 interviewees allowed to collect the understanding of the aging process by two opposite criteria: preservation of autonomy and existance of decline. It marked the belief system of participants with 1090 beliefs expressed. With tendency of the belief system to centrality with 638(58,6%) beliefs showing concepts and dificult situations to be changed through educational processes. The results diagnosed and reiterated the tendency of increase in the number of people aged 60 or older in the Brazilian city of Juiz de Fora. Although the elderly statute is built upon principles of healthy and active aging it was evident the need of strategies to implement it aiming at social, economic and health impacts in the perspective of physical education and preservation of the functional capacity. Constitute contributions of this study: 1) theoretical fundaments and data about Juiz de Fora citizens aged 60 or more according to social, economic, cultural and spiritual dimensions in a broad concept of health; 2) approach of aging in a procedural and integrative, multidimensional manner, articulated with the life cycle; 3) diagnosis of degree of autonomy of participants enabling decisions on how to improve their functional capacities; 4) investigative process using theoretical models which permit to stablish a local diagnosis and contextualize the aging process of participants and 5) weekly overload of physical activity and anthropometric indexes of participants as to subsidize parameters to therapeutic indication to the maintainence of functional capacity.

Portugal was one of the first and most enduring European colonial powers of modern times: 1415 and 1975 mark the beginning and the end of a long empire cycle that left impressive imprints in many places. Since it started, the overseas expansion and the exploration of the colonial resources were closely articulated with state-building and the preservation of national independence. A forerunner at the Great Age of Discoveries, but a latecomer in the era of industrialization, in the 19th and early-20th centuries Portugal was a peripheral country, and the economic gap with the rich and industrialized core of Europe was wide. During this period, however, the country faced the critical challenge of ruling vast and geographically scattered overseas territories, and of preserving them from the greed of strong imperialist powers. This article starts by outlining the major developments in the Portuguese colonial policy over a century, since the 1820s until 1926. The independence of Brazil (1822) was a crucial turning point, which brought about a shift towards Africa. The First Republic (1910-1926), pervaded by a nationalist ideology, gave a new impetus to the efforts towards a more effective colonisation. Symptomatically, a Ministry of Colonies was then established for the first time. Second, it describes and analyses the transformation of the central office for colonial affairs – from a small ministerial department to an autonomous ministry -, stressing the increasing bureaucratic specialisation, the growth of the apparatus and its staff, and the introduction of new criteria for the selection and promotion of permanent officials (namely a higher profile given to careers in local colonial administration). Finally, it presents a collective biography of both the politicians (Cabinet ministers) and the administrators (directors-general) who ran the Colonial Office for a large period of the Constitutional Monarchy (from 1851 to 1910) and during the First Republic, thus enabling to assess the impact of regime change on elite circulation and career patterns.

Wind turbines and solar panels are becoming second nature in Portugal, as its occurrence in the country becomes ubiquitous. Somehow, one could argue that renewable energy in Portugal is in the process of ‘naturalisation’ as part of a new – mechanised, but environmentally benign – landscape. Portuguese Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Biodiversity (ICNB) has shown an ambiguous stance on this issue, defending global concerns towards renewable energy, while at the same time attempting to engage locals in the preservation of extensive ‘classified areas’. In the course of this research, we tried to focus on these incongruities and to analyse how they are impacting local communities during the process of wind power installation.

The issues concerning Crisis Situations under the scope of police activity, raised after incidents considered critical, has emerged with greater intensity during the most recent decades, posing a major challenge for police forces around the world. These are situations or events of crucial importance, involving hostage taken or barricaded individuals, in which inevitably human lives are at risk, requiring from law enforcement agencies a specific response capability, i.e., a type of intervention not framed under the parameters considered as routine, in order to obtain solutions to minimize the possibility of casualties. Because this is about impacting situations of extreme gravity, where the preservation of human lives is concerned and, in many cases, the very Rule of Law as well, we understand the need for police forces to adapt to new procedures and working methods. Such procedures are an enormously complex task that requires the coordination and articulation of several components, including not infrequently the performance of different police forces, as well as organizations and entities with varied powers and duties, which implies the need for effective management. This explains the emergence of Crisis Management Structures, imposing to determine which are their fundamental components, their importance, how they interconnect, and their major goal. The intrinsic features will also be analyzed in the aspect that we consider to be the fundamental groundwork of a Crisis Management Structure, i.e., Negotiation itself, considering it as a kind of police intervention, where a wide range of procedures feeds a channel of dialogue, aiming at minimizing the damage resultant from an extreme action, in particular, to prevent the death of any of those involved. This is in essence the path we have chosen to develop this study, trying to find out an answer to the fundamental question: What model of Crisis Management Structure should be adopted to manage a critical event involving hostage negotiation?
