The growing need to patrol and survey large maritime and terrestrial areas increased the need to integrate external sensors on aircraft in order to accomplish those patrols at increasingly higher altitudes, longer range and not depending upon vehicle type. The main focus of this work is to elaborate a practical, simple, effective and efficient methodology for the aircraft modification procedure resulting from the integration of an Elec-tro-Optical/Infra-Red (EO/IR) turret through a support structure. The importance of the devel-opment of a good methodology relies on the correct management of project variables as time, available resources and project complexity. The key is to deliver a proper tool for a project de-sign team that will be used to create a solution that fulfils all technical, non-technical and certi-fication requirements present in this field of transportation. The created methodology is inde-pendent of two main inputs: sensor model and aircraft model definition, and therefore it is in-tended to deliver the results for different projects besides the one that was presented in this work as a case study. This particular case study presents the development of a structure support for FLIR STAR SAPHIRE III turret integration on the front lower fuselage bulkhead (radome) of the LOCKHEED MARTIN C-130 H. Development of the case study focuses on the study of local structural analysis through the use of Finite Element Method (FEM). Esta pesquisa foca-se na comunidade imigrante portuguesa em Macau e na comunidade imigrante nepalesa em Portugal. Analisa os usos dos média – étnicos, mainstream e transnacionais - por imigrantes durante o processo de integração: na manutenção de laços com o país de origem e na adaptação à sociedade de acolhimento, em que a língua de acolhimento assume um papel crucial. A investigação enquadra-se nos estudos de audiências e baseia-se na teoria dos Usos e Gratificações dos Média (Katz, Blumler, & Gurevitch, 1974). No que respeita à integração assenta no modelo de estratégias de aculturação de Berry & Sam (2001, 2006). Quanto à língua, assenta na teoria do poder e da prática de Bourdieu (1991), especificamente na parte relativa ao poder simbólico da língua. Quanto à metodologia, foram realizadas oito entrevistas em profundidade na comunidade nepalesa e 29 entrevistas na comunidade portuguesa. A amostra foi de conveniência e teoricamente sustentada. A seguir às entrevistas, foi feita uma análise de conteúdo individual e transversal. Esta tese pretende contribuir para o enriquecimento de linhas de investigação sobre audiências activas dos média. Poderá servir de fonte de informação para políticas relacionadas com a integração de imigrantes, nomeadamente, para reformulação de políticas relacionadas com os média e com a língua de acolhimento. No caso de empresas de comunicação, a informação obtida poderá ser útil para adaptarem melhor os seus conteúdos a este público específico.

The purpose of the present case – and accompanying Teaching Notes – is to better understand the spin-off of PT Multimédia, by Portugal Telecom, after receiving a Public Takeover Offer from Sonaecom, in 2006. The Government and the Competition Authority had never looked in a serious way at PT’s dominant position and the lack of room for competition in the TMT sector – PT was the owner of both the cable and copper networks, having access to privileged information from its competitors with control over the wholesale and retail businesses. In 2006, the company received a takeover offer from Sonaecom, the TMT subsidiary from the Portuguese conglomerate Sonae. The offer was voted and rejected by a majority of PT shareholders, but the whole process triggered several recommendations from the regulatory bodies. As a result, PT divested its cable business with the spin-off of PT Multimédia, giving birth to a new competitor and a totally different landscape in the telecommunications sector in Portugal.
