Molecular regulation of secondary gorwth: searching for SHORT-ROOT function in cork formation

The analysis of molecular regulators involved in controlling the maintenance and function of plant meristems has been the subject of many studies. Some master regulators of these processes have been identified in Arabidopsis benefiting from the array of tools available for genetic and molecular analysis in this model plant. However, aspects such as secondary growth that are more extensively observed in woody plants, have been less studied. Secondary growth is responsible for the enlargement of the plant stems and roots and results from the activity of the lateral (secondary) meristems, vascular cambium and cork cambium (phellogen), which produce two important renewable natural resources, wood and cork, respectively.(...)

Quand les autres se remettent en question: négociations identitaires et travail de terrain

Aux printemps 1997 et 1998 j’ai accompagné le tournage de deux documentaires du cinéaste João Pedro Rodrigues – « Esta é a minha casa » et « Viagem à Expo » - avec une famille d’émigrants portugais. En faisant une ethnographie multi-située, j’ai voulu comprendre les processus de construction des univers culturels et identitaires des différents membres de la famille. Dans le cadre relationnel spécifique aux tournages, la présence de l’anthropologue a conduit à des actes de production/transformation de culture. Avant la restitution des savoirs (celle qui se fait à la fin de la recherche) nous étions déjà en présence d’un transfert de connaissances. La situation produite par le travail ethnographique est une situation de restitution continue, dans la mesure où les personnes avec lesquelles nous travaillons se transforment en fonction du rapport qu’elles établissent avec nos façons de représenter le monde et nos façons d’y vivre.

Thermo-hydro-mechanical analysis of CO2 injection into deep aquifers

One of the biggest challenges for humanity is global warming and consequently, climate changes. Even though there has been increasing public awareness and investments from numerous countries concerning renewable energies, fossil fuels are and will continue to be in the near future, the main source of energy. Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is believed to be a serious measure to mitigate CO2 concentration. CCS briefly consists of capturing CO2 from the atmosphere or stationary emission sources and transporting and storing it via mineral carbonation, in oceans or geological media. The latter is referred to as carbon capture and geological storage (CCGS) and is considered to be the most promising of all solutions. Generally it consists of a storage (e.g. depleted oil reservoirs and deep saline aquifers) and sealing (commonly termed caprock in the oil industry) formations. The present study concerns the injection of CO2 into deep aquifers and regardless injection conditions, temperature gradients between carbon dioxide and the storage formation are likely to occur. Should the CO2 temperature be lower than the storage formation, a contractive behaviour of the reservoir and caprock is expected. The latter can result in the opening of new paths or re-opening of fractures, favouring leakage and compromising the CCGS project. During CO2 injection, coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical phenomena occur, which due to their complexity, hamper the assessment of each relative influence. For this purpose, several analyses were carried out in order to evaluate their influences but focusing on the thermal contractive behaviour. It was finally concluded that depending on mechanical and thermal properties of the pair aquifer-seal, the sealing caprock can undergo significant decreases in effective stress.

Des histories de famille. La dévotion aux Trois Maries en France du XIVe au XVe siècle. Textes et images

La légende des Trois Maries, les demi-soeurs nées du trinubium de sainte Anne, fut largement diffusée à partir du XIIIe siècle par la Légende dorée de Jacques de Voragine. L’émergence précoce du culte et de l’iconographie des Trois Maries à Paris, à partir du milieux du XIVe siècle, a été favorisée par la rencontre entre un miracle de guérison, en ordre religieux: les Carmes, en quête de légitimation et une reine de France: Jeanne d’Evreux, dont la descendance fut exclue de la succession au trône. L’iconographie des Trois Maries, dont Jean Venette, auteur carme, raconta l’histoire dans un long récit versifi é, est attestée dans les manuscrits et sur d’autres supports.
