Resumo:
The exhibition of information does not always attend to the preferences and characteristics of the users, nor the context that involves the user. With the aim of overcoming this gap, we propose an emotional context-aware model for adapting information contents to users and groups. The proposed model is based on OCC and Big Five models to handle emotion and personality respectively. The idea is to adapt the representation of the information in order to maximize the positive emotional valences and minimize the negatives. To evaluate the proposed model it was developed a prototype for adapting RSS news to users and group of users.

To assure enduring success, firms need to generate economic value with respect for the environment and social value. They also need to be aware of the needs and expectations of relevant stakeholders and incorporate them in their business strategies and programs. These challenges imply that engineers should take into consideration societal, health and safety,environmental and commercial issues in their professional activity. This investigation accesses the influence of firms’ environmental management programs and community involvement programs on their own employees and in the community, with a focus on small and medium companies. Based on a quantitative research, the findings suggest that firms that invest both in environmental management programs and in community involvement programs have a higher involvement of their own employees with the community, while at the same time receiving more feedback (positive, but also negative) from the community, stressing the need to pay special attention to their communication policies.

The way humans interact with technology is undergoing a tremendous change. It is hard to imagine the lives we live today without the benefits of technology that we take for granted. Applying research in computer science, engineering, and information systems to non-technical descriptions of technology, such as human interaction, has shaped and continues to shape our lives. Human Interaction with Technology for Working, Communicating, and Learning: Advancements provides a framework for conceptual, theoretical, and applied research in regards to the relationship between technology and humans. This book is unique in the sense that it does not only cover technology, but also science, research, and the relationship between these fields and individuals' experience. This book is a must have for anyone interested in this research area, as it provides a voice for all users and a look into our future.

To select each node by devices and by contexts in urban computing, users have to put their plan information and their requests into a computing environment (ex. PDA, Smart Devices, Laptops, etc.) in advance and they will try to keep the optimized states between users and the computing environment. However, because of bad contexts, users may get the wrong decision, so, one of the users’ demands may be requesting the good server which has higher security. To take this issue, we define the structure of Dynamic State Information (DSI) which takes a process about security including the relevant factors in sending/receiving contexts, which select the best during user movement with server quality and security states from DSI. Finally, whenever some information changes, users and devices get the notices including security factors, then an automatic reaction can be possible; therefore all users can safely use all devices in urban computing.

Bone is constantly being molded and shaped by the action of osteoclasts and osteoblasts. A proper equilibrium between both cell types metabolic activities is required to ensure an adequate skeletal tissue structure, and it involves resorption of old bone and formation of new bone tissue. It is reported that treatment with antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) can elicit alterations in skeletal structure, in particular in bone mineral density. Nevertheless, the knowledge regarding the effects of AEDs on bone cells are still scarce. In this context, the aim of this study was to investigate the effects of five different AEDs on human osteoclastic, osteoblastic and co-cultured cells. Osteoclastic cell cultures were established from precursor cells isolated from human peripheral blood and were characterized for tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) activity, number of TRAP+ multinucleated cells, presence of cells with actin rings and expressing vitronectin and calcitonin receptors and apoptosis rate. Also, the involvement of several signaling pathways on the cellular response was addressed. Osteoblastic cell cultures were obtained from femur heads of patients (25-45 years old) undergoing orthopaedic surgery procedures and were then studied for cellular proliferation/viability, ALP activity, histochemical staining of ALP and apoptosis rate. Also the expression of osteoblast-related genes and the involvement of some osteoblastogenesis-related signalling pathways on cellular response were addressed. For co-cultured cells, osteoblastic cells were firstly seeded and cultured. After that, PBMC were added to the osteoblastic cells and co-cultures were evaluated using the same osteoclast and osteoblast parameters mentioned above for the corresponding isolated cell. Cell-cultures were maintained in the absence (control) or in the presence of different AEDs (carbamazepine, gabapentin, lamotrigine, topiramate and valproic acid). All the tested drugs were able to affect osteoclastic and osteoblastic cells development, although with different profiles on their osteoclastogenic and osteoblastogenic modulation properties. Globally, the tendency was to inhibit the process. Furthermore, the signaling pathways involved in the process also seemed to be differently affected by the AEDs, suggesting that the different drugs may affect osteoclastogenesis and/or osteoblastogenesis through different mechanisms. In conclusion, the present study showed that the different AEDs had the ability to directly and indirectly modulate bone cells differentiation, shedding new light towards a better understanding of how these drugs can affect bone tissue.

he expansion of Digital Television and the convergence between conventional broadcasting and television over IP contributed to the gradual increase of the number of available channels and on demand video content. Moreover, the dissemination of the use of mobile devices like laptops, smartphones and tablets on everyday activities resulted in a shift of the traditional television viewing paradigm from the couch to everywhere, anytime from any device. Although this new scenario enables a great improvement in viewing experiences, it also brings new challenges given the overload of information that the viewer faces. Recommendation systems stand out as a possible solution to help a watcher on the selection of the content that best fits his/her preferences. This paper describes a web based system that helps the user navigating on broadcasted and online television content by implementing recommendations based on collaborative and content based filtering. The algorithms developed estimate the similarity between items and users and predict the rating that a user would assign to a particular item (television program, movie, etc.). To enable interoperability between different systems, programs characteristics (title, genre, actors, etc.) are stored according to the TV-Anytime standard. The set of recommendations produced are presented through a Web Application that allows the user to interact with the system based on the obtained recommendations.

In this manuscript we tackle the problem of semidistributed user selection with distributed linear precoding for sum rate maximization in multiuser multicell systems. A set of adjacent base stations (BS) form a cluster in order to perform coordinated transmission to cell-edge users, and coordination is carried out through a central processing unit (CU). However, the message exchange between BSs and the CU is limited to scheduling control signaling and no user data or channel state information (CSI) exchange is allowed. In the considered multicell coordinated approach, each BS has its own set of cell-edge users and transmits only to one intended user while interference to non-intended users at other BSs is suppressed by signal steering (precoding). We use two distributed linear precoding schemes, Distributed Zero Forcing (DZF) and Distributed Virtual Signalto-Interference-plus-Noise Ratio (DVSINR). Considering multiple users per cell and the backhaul limitations, the BSs rely on local CSI to solve the user selection problem. First we investigate how the signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) regime and the number of antennas at the BSs impact the effective channel gain (the magnitude of the channels after precoding) and its relationship with multiuser diversity. Considering that user selection must be based on the type of implemented precoding, we develop metrics of compatibility (estimations of the effective channel gains) that can be computed from local CSI at each BS and reported to the CU for scheduling decisions. Based on such metrics, we design user selection algorithms that can find a set of users that potentially maximizes the sum rate. Numerical results show the effectiveness of the proposed metrics and algorithms for different configurations of users and antennas at the base stations.
A família, uma estratégia para o sucesso escolar. Um estudo de caso com alunos do 2.º ano do 1.º CEB

O estudo que aqui apresentamos tem como objetivos estudar: o impacto do acompanhamento dos pais ou Encarregados de Educação no Estudo Autónomo e na realização dos Trabalhos de Casa, nos resultados escolares e na motivação para a escola e aprendizagens; ainda as necessidades sentidas pelos pais ou Encarregados de Educação ao fazerem este acompanhamento Neste estudo elaboramos seis propostas que planificamos, analisamos e, do seu desenvolvimento, tiramos as respetivas conclusões. As propostas foram dinamizadas pelo professor de turma e investigador em pequenas sessões/reuniões de esclarecimento com os pais ou Encarregados de Educação sendo quatro delas aplicadas num 2.º ano de escolaridade e as outras duas a um 3.º ano. Nas propostas do 2.º ano foram trabalhadas as frações e as estratégias de cálculo mental bem como foi dinamizado o projeto “Clube de Pais Leitores” e o “Concurso de Espantalhos” também aberto à comunidade educativa. Nas propostas do 3.º ano de escolaridade abordamos as propriedades da multiplicação, sua utilização no cálculo mental, a consolidação da operação divisão através do jogo do 24 e orientações para o Estudo Acompanhado e Trabalhos de Casa para auxiliar os pais ou Encarregados de Educação. Com a implementação destas tarefas, apresentamos os tipos de envolvimento parental solicitado por cada atividade, os benefícios para a família, aluno e professor, os sistemas envolvidos no processo de desenvolvimento da criança e os fatores que influenciaram negativamente na realização destas atividades. A implementação destas atividades foi feita seguindo uma metodologia qualitativa, inserida num contexto de um estudo de caso. Os participantes no estudo foram entrevistados com o objetivo de completar o estudo realizado através do seu feedback. Neste estudo fizemos uma revisão bibliográfica e abordámos o envolvimento dos pais ou Encarregados de Educação e famílias na escola numa perspetiva cronológica, a tipologia de envolvimento parental na escola, os sistemas que influenciam o desenvolvimento da criança e ainda uma referência aos benefícios para a comunidade educativa do envolvimento parental e familiar na escola. Através dos dados obtidos, pudemos verificar que o acompanhamento dos pais ou Encarregados de Educação no Estudo Autónomo e Trabalhos de Casa e nos projetos de turma traz bastantes benefícios para todos os elementos da comunidade educativa, sendo o aluno o mais beneficiado, e influenciado primariamente pela família em articulação com a escola e comunidade. Também verificamos que os pais ou Encarregados de Educação têm necessidades de estarem informados sobre conteúdos escolares e serem conhecedores das estratégias utilizadas na sala de aulas pelo que, sem isto, apresentam dificuldades em acompanharem os seus educados em casa. A realização deste estudo visa contribuir para a compreensão das necessidades sentidas pelos pais ou Encarregados de Educação no acompanhamento do Estudo Autónomo e Trabalho de Casa e as formas de dinamizar a cooperação entre o professor da turma e a família, promovendo o sucesso e a motivação escolar. Human Computer Interaction (HCl) is to interaction between computers and each person. And context-aware (CA) is very important one of HCI composition. In particular, if there are sequential or continuous tasks between users and devices, among users, and among devices etc, it is important to decide the next action using right CA. And to take perfect decision we have to get together all CA into a structure. We define that structure is Context-Aware Matrix (CAM) in this article. However to make exact decision is too hard for some problems like low accuracy, overhead and bad context by attacker etc. Many researcher has been studying to solve these problems. Moreover, still it has weak point HCI using in safety. In this Article, we propose CAM making include best selecting Server in each area. As a result, moving users could be taken the best way.

As the time goes on, it is a question of common sense to involve in the process of decision making people scattered around the globe. Groups are created in a formal or informal way, exchange ideas or engage in a process of argumentation and counterargumentation, negotiate, cooperate, collaborate or even discuss techniques and/or methodologies for problem solving. In this work it is proposed an agent-based architecture to support a ubiquitous group decision support system, i.e. based on the concept of agent, which is able to exhibit intelligent, and emotional-aware behaviour, and support argumentation, through interaction with individual persons or groups. It is enforced the paradigm of Mixed Initiative Systems, so the initiative is to be pushed by human users and/or intelligent agents.

A reforma dos cuidados de saúde primários surgiu, em 2005, com o objectivo principal de criar um novo modelo de organização dos cuidados de saúde primários mais próximo dos cidadãos e mais eficiente, tendo surgido, neste contexto, as Unidades de Saúde Familiares (USF) e, mais recentemente, as Unidades de Cuidados de Saúde Personalizados (UCSP). Importa agora determinar a avaliação que os utentes destas unidades fazem dos cuidados que lhes são prestados. O presente estudo pretende avaliar a satisfação dos utentes das UCSP e USF do Agrupamento de Centros de Saúde (ACES)Tâmega I- Baixo Tâmega e identificar os factores que a influenciam, tendo sido utilizado para tal uma versão adaptada e validada do questionário Europep. Os resultados demonstram queos utentes do ACES Tâmega I - Baixo Tâmega avaliam favoravelmente os cuidados de saúde. As dimensões com maior satisfação são a “relação e comunicação”, com destaque para o tempo dedicado pelo pessoal de enfermagem, os“recursos humanos”, com destaque para a competência, cortesia e carinho do pessoal de enfermagem e as“instalações”. Os níveis mais baixos de satisfação, embora positivos, são relativos à organização dos serviços e continuidade e cooperação. O tempo de espera na sala de espera, referente à organização dos serviços, é,entre todos, o aspecto com pior avaliação distanciando-se significativamente de todos os outros itens avaliados. Também na análise dos comentários relativos a surpresas agradáveis e desagradáveis encontradas nas unidades verifica-se que os aspectos organizacionais são os que mais desagradam os utentes e os relacionais os que mais agradam. Verifica-se que a idade, estado civil, escolaridade, utilização da unidade de saúde e tipo de unidade determinam diferenças na satisfação. Os utentes das USF recomendam mais a sua unidade de saúde e encontram-semais satisfeitos em todas as dimensões da satisfação avaliadas, sendoesta discrepância mais acentuada a nível da organização dos serviços e resposta às necessidades.
