Neste trabalho, começamos por focar a nossa atenção nas perturbações da linguagem. Assim, fazemos uma abordagem à literatura existente sobre estas perturbações, analisando os conceitos de comunicação, linguagem e fala. Com base neste enquadramento teórico, consideramos importante conhecer que impacto poderá ter a utilização de software educativo nos alunos com perturbações da linguagem, assim como determinar que fatores favorecem e condicionam essa utilização. A proposta para o uso de software educativo, numa perspetiva de aprendizagem, desenvolve-se a partir da utilização das Tecnologias da Comunicação e Informação (TIC) ao nível do ensino e em particular da Educação Especial (EE), considerando questões como: adequação dos conteúdos à realidade do educando, aplicação de novas metodologias que incentivem a participação ativa do aluno no processo de aprendizagem e redefinição dos objetivos a fim de ampliar o desenvolvimento do indivíduo para a sua inserção na sociedade moderna. É assim nossa intenção perceber se o uso das TIC, nomeadamente de softwares educativos, poderá apresentar resultados significativos no processo de construção de conhecimento, proporcionando condições para o desenvolvimento cognitivo, visando a motivação, a autonomia e a especificidade de cada aluno. Para tal, criamos uma plataforma interativa passível de ser utilizada por professores, profissionais e até mesmo pais de crianças com estas perturbações. Assim, este projeto parte de um estudo de natureza qualitativa, investigando, através do estudo de caso, se a utilização do software educativo “Talky – A Destrava Língua” será um instrumento capaz de minimizar ou até mesmo colmatar as dificuldades inerentes às crianças portadoras destas perturbações.

For treating chronic pain, a multifactorial condition, is needed a suitable diagnosis which allows the differentiation in its many components. Diabetic neuropathy is a worldwide disease with great impact in the modern society. Diabetes may leads to the production of reactive oxygen species that are associated to oxidative stress, which may be a key factor in the development of diabetic neuropathy. The main goal is to inquire a potential association between chronic pain, diabetic neuropathy and oxidative stress. Thus, was performed a meta-analysis that permitted the causal evaluation between oxidative stress and diabetic neuropathy, and, a pain evaluation was accomplished in a convenience sample using validated surveys – Brief Pain Inventory (BPI) and Douleur Neuropathique 4 (DN4). Through the meta-analysis it was possible evaluate oxidative stress biomarkers, such lipid peroxidation, superoxide dismutase and catalase activities, and reduced glutathione. 9 studies were selected and all were performed in mouse models. The levels of lipid peroxidation were increased in all the studies, however the levels of the other biomarkers were diminished in diabetic models comparatively to healthy controls. In the evaluation of convenience sample, 84 surveys were collected along the four seasons: summer, autumn, winter and spring. The pain complaints were described in terms of local, intensity, impact, relief by medication and its effect on daily activities using BPI questionnaire. The scores obtained in BPI indicate the presence of moderate to severe pain, with increased complaints in autumn and spring, and implications in daily activities, transversal to all groups. To determine the main features associated with neuropathic pain it was used DN4 questionnaire. The DN4 indicated the presence of nearly 50% of patients with neuropathic pain. The results suggest that being female, the increased age and being retired can influence chronic pain and neuropathic pain in patients. As main conclusions, it was possible to verify an association between oxidative stress, and neuropathic pain, and, also, that weather conditions may influence the pain complaints and its prevalence.

Engineering education practices have evolved not only due to the natural changes in the contents of the curricula and skills but also, and more recently, due to the requirements imposed by the Bologna revision process. In addition, industry is becoming more demanding, as society is becoming more and more aware of the global needs and consequences of industrial practices. Under this scope, higher education needs not only to follow but also to lead these trends. Therefore, the School of Engineering of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (ISEP), a Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) training partner in Portugal, prepared and presented its Sustainability Action Plan (PASUS), with the main objective of creating a new kind of engineers, with Sustainable Development at the core of their graduation and MsC degrees. In this paper, the main strategies and activities of the referred plan along with the strategic approach, which guided its development and implementation, will be presented in detail. Additionally, a reflection about the above mentioned bridge between concept and application will be established and justified, in the framework of the action plan. Although in most of the situations, there was no prior discussion or specific request, many of the graduation and post-graduation programmes offered by ISEP already include courses that attend to PASUS philosophy. As a consequence, the number of Master thesis, Graduation projects and R&D projects that address sustainability problems has grown substantially, a proof that for ISEP community, sustainability really matters!
