Resumo:
Starting from the assumption that, the organizational learning process influences, in a positive way, the innovative environment and that it shows positive effects on individual, group and organizational performance, this paper deals with the analysis of companies that provide knowledge-intensive products. Referring to the initial information obtained through an adequate survey that is still being performed since May 2009, the main goal is to identify the ways to an organizational learning, measure its importance and identify the effects on the social and economic development. Our reflexion study handles two Portuguese knowledge-rich-organizations, based on the metropolitan area of Lisbon. The paper has the following methodological structure: in the first chapter we will make a theoretical contextualization about the organizational learning; in the second chapter we will handle the data recovered using the SPSS statistics software and, afterwards, presenting the main results. Finally, starting from the main conclusions achieved, we willgive clues to an ongoing reflection.

The world is increasingly in a global community. The rapid technological development of communication and information technologies allows the transmission of knowledge in real-time. In this context, it is imperative that the most developed countries are able to develop their own strategies to stimulate the industrial sector to keep up-to-date and being competitive in a dynamic and volatile global market so as to maintain its competitive capacities and by consequence, permits the maintenance of a pacific social state to meet the human and social needs of the nation. The path traced of competitiveness through technological differentiation in industrialization allows a wider and innovative field of research. Already we are facing a new phase of organization and industrial technology that begins to change the way we relate with the industry, society and the human interaction in the world of work in current standards. This Thesis, develop an analysis of Industrie 4.0 Framework, Challenges and Perspectives. Also, an analysis of German reality in facing to approach the future challenge in this theme, the competition expected to win in future global markets, points of domestic concerns felt in its industrial fabric household face this challenge and proposes recommendations for a more effective implementation of its own strategy. The methods of research consisted of a comprehensive review and strategically analysis of existing global literature on the topic, either directly or indirectly, in parallel with the analysis of questionnaires and data analysis performed by entities representing the industry at national and world global placement. The results found by this multilevel analysis, allowed concluding that this is a theme that is only in the beginning for construction the platform to engage the future Internet of Things in the industrial environment Industrie 4.0. This dissertation allows stimulate the need of achievements of more strategically and operational approach within the society itself as a whole to clarify the existing weaknesses in this area, so that the National Strategy can be implemented with effective approaches and planned actions for a direct training plan in a more efficiently path in education for the theme.

Given the increasingly demanding labor market, today’s professional should act according to certain generic competencies, which allows him to perform as required by the contemporary world. In parallel, human resource management (HRM) current trends, highlight the importance that managing by competencies has in the organizational context, in the sense that it impels a more strategic and integrated HRM. The evidence of the theoretical and practical pertinence of this theme resulted in an exploratory study of a qualitative nature, which findings lead us to conclude that the most valued generic competencies by firms are flexibility, interpersonal relationship, adjustment to change and teamwork. Another finding is that HRM managing by competencies practices is characterized by informality. Managing by competencies is more frequent presence in processes as: recruitment, retention and in the employees’ development plans.

It is of crucial importance the integration of practical sessions in engineering curricula owing to their significant role in understanding engineering concepts and scientific phenomena. However, the lack of practical sessions due to the high costs of the equipment and the unavailability of instructors has caused a significant declination in experimentation in engineering education. Remote laboratories have tackled this issues providing online reusable and shared workbenches unconstrained by neither geographical nor time considerations. Thereby, they have extremely proliferated among universities and integrated into engineering curricula over the last decade. This contribution compiles diverse experiences based on the deployment of the remote laboratory, Virtual Instrument Systems in Reality (VISIR), on the practices of undergraduate engineering grades at various universities within the VISIR community. It aims to show the impact of its usage on engineering education concerning the assessments of students and teachers as well. In addition, the paper address the next challenges and future works carried out at several universities within the VISIR community.

This essay sees “through” an object produced by Portuguese folklore: the moliceiro boat of Ria de Aveiro, whose most original characteristic is the group of four different panels painted on each boat. These unique panels have echoed national mythologies and have undergone influence from institutional channels of instruction and propaganda for much of the twentieth century. We will analyse how this boat expresses the inventory of a community’s identity, imagination, and practices.

It is not possible to imagine our lives today without technology. From the moment we get up in the morning until the time that we go to bed at night, technology is present in almost every moment, even if we are not aware of it. Some of the most basic activities we need to perform regularly could not be carried out without technology. Sociological and Philosophical Aspects of Human Interaction with Technology: Advancing Concepts presents a careful blend of conceptual, theoretical and applied research in regards to the relationship between technology and humans. This book explores the importance of these interactions, aspects related with trust, communication, data protection, usability concerning organizational change, and e-learning. The advancement of these theories and practices will benefit from this publication as it provides a voice for the users.

Shopping centers present a rich and heterogeneous environment, where IT systems can be implemented in order to support the needs of its actors. However, due to the environment complexity, several feasibility issues emerge when designing both the logical and physical architecture of such systems. Additionally, the system must be able to cope with the individual needs of each actor, and provide services that are easily adopted by them, taking into account several sociological and economical aspects. In this sense, we present an overview of current support systems for shopping center environments. From this overview, a high-level model of the domain (involving actors and services) is described along with challenges and possible features in the context of current Semantic Web, mobile device and sensor technologies.

Nos dias de hoje é necessário criar hábitos de vida mais saudáveis que contribuam para o bem-estar da população. Adoptar medidas e práticas de modo regular e disciplinado, pode diminuir o risco do aparecimento de determinadas doenças, como a obesidade, as doenças cardiovasculares, a hipertensão, a diabetes, alguns tipos de cancro e tantas outras. É também importante salientar que, uma alimentação cuidada dá saúde e aumenta a esperança média de vida. Em Portugal, nos últimos anos, os costumes alimentares da população têm vindo a alterar-se significativamente. As refeições caseiras confeccionadas com produtos frescos dão lugar à designada “cultura do fast food”. Em contrapartida, os consumidores são cada vez mais exigentes, estando em permanente alerta no que se refere ao estado dos alimentos. A rotulagem de um produto, para além da função publicitária, tem vindo a ser objecto de legislação específica de forma a fornecer informação simples e clara, correspondente à composição, qualidade, quantidade, validade ou outras características do produto. Estas informações devem ser acessíveis a qualquer tipo de público, com mais ou menos formação e de qualquer estrato social. A qualidade e segurança dos produtos deve basear-se na garantia de que todos os ingredientes, materiais de embalagem e processos produtivos são adequados à produção de produtos seguros, saudáveis e saborosos. A Silliker Portugal, S.A. é uma empresa independente de prestação de serviços para o sector agro-alimentar, líder mundial na prestação de serviços para a melhoria da qualidade e segurança alimentar. A Silliker dedica-se a ajudar as empresas a encontrar soluções para os desafios actuais do sector, oferecendo uma ampla gama de serviços, onde se inclui o serviço de análises microbiológicas, químicas e sensorial; consultadoria em segurança alimentar e desenvolvimento; auditorias; rotulagem e legislação. A actualização permanente de procedimentos na procura de uma melhoria contínua é um dos objectivos da empresa. Para responder a um dos desafios colocados à Silliker, surgiu este trabalho, que consistiu no desenvolvimento de um novo método para determinação de ácidos gordos e da gordura total em diferentes tipos de alimentos e comparação dos resultados, com os obtidos com o método analítico até então adoptado. Se a gordura é um elemento de grande importância na alimentação, devido às suas propriedades nutricionais e organoléticas, recentemente, os investigadores têm focado a sua atenção nos mais diversos ácidos gordos (saturados, monoinsaturados e polinsaturados), em particular nos ácidos gordos essenciais e nos isómeros do ácido linoleico conjugado (CLA), uma mistura de isómeros posicionais e geométricos do ácido linoleico com actividade biológica importante. A técnica usada nas determinações foi a cromatografia gasosa com ionização de chama, GC-FID, tendo as amostras sido previamente tratadas e extraídas de acordo com o tipo de matriz. A metodologia analítica desenvolvida permitiu a correcta avaliação do perfil em ácidos gordos, tendo-se para isso usado uma mistura de 37 ésteres metílicos, em que o ácido gordo C13:0 foi usado como padrão interno. A identificação baseou-se nos tempos de retenção de cada ácido gordo da mistura e para a quantificação usaram-se os factores de resposta. A validação do método implementado foi baseada nos resultados obtidos no estudo de três matrizes relativas a materiais certificados pela BIPEA (Bureau Interprofessionnel des Etudes Analytiques), para o que foram efectuadas doze réplicas de cada matriz. Para cada réplica efectuada foi calculado o teor de matéria gorda, sendo posteriormente o resultado comparado com o emitido pela entidade certificada. Após análise de cada constituinte foi também possível calcular o teor em ácidos gordos saturados, monoinsaturados e polinsaturados. A determinação do perfil em ácidos gordos dos materiais certificados foi aceitável atendendo aos valores obtidos, os quais se encontravam no intervalo de valores admissíveis indicados nos relatórios. A quantificação da matéria gorda no que se refere à matriz de “Paté à Tartinier” apresentou um z-score de 4,3, o que de acordo com as exigências internas da Silliker, não é válido. Para as outras duas matrizes (“Mélange Nutritif” e “Plat cuisiné à base de viande”) os valores de z-score foram, respectivamente, 0,7 e -1,0, o que permite concluir a validade do método. Para que o método possa vir a ser adoptado como método alternativo é necessário um estudo mais alargado relativamente a amostras com diferentes composições. O método foi aplicado na análise de amostras de fiambre, leite gordo, queijo, ovo com ómega 3, amendoim e óleo de girassol, e os resultados foram comparados com os obtidos pelo método até então adoptado.

Purpose: The studies on links between sustainability, innovation, and competitiveness have been mainly focused at organizational and business level. The purpose of this research is to investigate if there is a correlation between these three variables at country level. Using international well recognized rankings of countries sustainability, innovation, and competitiveness, correlation analysis was performed allowing for the conclusion that there are indeed high correlations (and possible relationships) between the three variables at country level. Design/methodology/approach: Sustainability, innovation, and competitiveness literature were reviewed identifying a lack of studies examining these three variables at country level. Three major well recognized indexes were used to support the quantitative research: The World Economic Forum (2013) Sustainability-adjusted global competitiveness index, the Global Innovation Index (2014) issued by Cornell University, INSEAD, and WIPO and the IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook (2014). After confirming the distributions normality, Pearson correlation analysis was made with results showing high linear correlations between the three indexes. Findings: The results of the correlation analysis using Pearson correlation coefficient (all correlation coefficients are greater than 0.73) give a strong support to the conclusion that there is indeed a high correlation (and a possible relationship) between social sustainability, innovation and competitiveness at country level. Research limitations/implications: Further research is advisable to better understand the factors that contribute to the presented results and to establish a global paradigm linking these three main constructs (social sustainability, innovation, and competitiveness). Some authors consider that these measurements are not fully supported (e.g. due to different countries standards), however, it is assumed these differing underlying methodological approaches, by being used in conjunction, can be considered as a set of reliable and useful performance indicators. Practical implications: The results highlight the simultaneous relationship between social sustainability, innovation and competitiveness superior performance and the need to take that these considerations into business and operating models. Social implications: This research suggests that sustainability and innovation policies, strategies and practices are relevant for countries competitiveness and should be promoted particularly in countries ranked low on sustainability and innovation global scoring indexes. Originality/value: This is one of the few studies addressing the relationships between sustainability, innovation and competitiveness at country level.

Crowdsourcing is evolving into powerful outsourcing options for organizations by providing access to the intellectual capital within a vast knowledge community. Innovation brokering services have emerged to facilitate crowdsourcing projects by connecting up companies with potential solution providers within the wider ‘crowd’. Most existing innovation brokering services are primarily aimed at larger organizations, however, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) offer considerable potential for crowdsourcing activity since they are typically the innovation and employment engines in society; they are typically more nimble and responsive to the business environment than the larger companies. SMEs have very different challenges and needs to larger organizations since they have fewer resources, a more limited knowledge and skill base, and immature management practices. Consequently, innovation brokering for SMEs require considerably more support than for larger organizations. This paper identifies the crowdsourcing innovation brokerage facilities needed by SMEs, and presents an architecture that encourages knowledge sharing, development of community, support in mixing and matching capabilities, and management of stakeholders’ risks. Innovation brokering is emerging as a novel business model that is challenging concepts of the traditional value chain and organizational boundaries.
