Um museu como palco de cultura/culturas nos seus diferentes papéis: o Museu dos Transportes e Comunicações

"Minha aldeia é todo o mundo. Todo o mundo me pertence. Aqui me encontro e confundo Com gente de todo o mundo Que a todo o mundo pertence" (António Gedeão). Cada um de nós nasce e vive com uma história de vida, com um “património”, constrói um espaço individual de emoções e, ao longo da vida, exprime sensações, sentimentos, desejos que representam os nossos “eus” individuais. A educação e a cultura constroem os “eus “ sociais ou colectivos, afastam-nos da nossa aldeia, do nosso sentido de pertença e de identidade. Uniformizam-se os consumos das coisas, das ideias, dos conceitos de cultura. A nossa aldeia dá origem a uma aldeia global onde se oferecem caldos de mistura de crendices e intuições pessoais, onde se misturam memórias e histórias, onde se cruzam saberes rigorosos com resultados da experiência individual. Desta forma, aparecem locais de cultura que produzem objectos feitos à medida e promovem consumos estereotipados. Para isso, os média têm contribuído de uma forma determinante para a construção de um conceito de educação e cultura “pronto-a-vestir”. É neste sentido que os museus, como espaços educativos, podem assumir um papel renovador, primeiro, assumindo a educação como sua componente principal e, segundo, com uma função social que os leve até às pessoas, isto é, ao público, assumindo-se, acima de tudo, como um meio de comunicação que estabeleça a relação entre os objectos e os fins pedagógicos e educativos. “Os museus de simples armazéns de objectos passam a ser lugares de aprendizagem activa”. Através de uma pedagogia da libertação e da criatividade, de uma escola dos sentidos e de uma poética do acto educativo, os museus podem hoje inventar algo de diferente, descobrir novos caminhos, exercitar, imaginar e, nos novos aglomerados urbanos desumanizados, criar, em condições de igualdade, rituais de cultura como actos aglutinadores e dinamizadores.Convencidos, acima de tudo, de que somos capazes de criar novas maneiras de ver e de olhar o património , isto é , a vida, podemos captar novos públicos “afectivamente”. Para isso, contaremos a nossa história no espaço e no tempo como acontece em todas as histórias. E, para além disso, perceber que a nossa capacidade de ver é infinita. Social gender stereotypes and their implications in Hindi

This essay looks at the subtle ways in which gender identities are constructed and reinforced in India through social norms of language use. Language itself becomes a medium for perpetuating gender stereotypes, forcing its speakers to confirm to socially defined gender roles. Using examples from a classroom discussion about a film, this essay will highlight the underlying rigid male-female stereotypes in Indian society with their more obvious expressions in language. For the urban woman in India globalisation meant increased economic equality and exposure to changed lifestyles. On an individual level it also meant redefining gender relations and changing the hierarchy in man-woman relationships. With the economic independence there is a heightened sense of liberation in all spheres of social life, a confidence to fuzz the rigid boundaries of gender roles. With the new films and media celebrating this liberated woman, who is ready to assert her sexual needs, who is ready to explode those long held notions of morality, one would expect that the changes are not just superficial. But as it soon became obvious in the course of a classroom discussion about relationships and stereotypes related to age, the surface changes can not become part of the common vocabulary, for the obvious reason that there is still a vast gap between the screen image of this new woman and the ground reality. Social considerations define the limits of this assertiveness of women, whereas men are happy to be liberal within the larger frame of social sanctions. The educated urban woman in India speaks in favour of change and the educated urban male supports her, but one just needs to scratch the surface to see the time tested formulae of gender roles firmly in place. The way the urban woman happily balances this emerging promise of independence with her gendered social identity, makes it necessary to rethink some aspects of looking at gender in a gradually changing, traditional society like India.

Embora haja muitos cépticos, as redes sociais ganham novos adeptos todos os dias, como tal, as redes sociais disponibilizam aplicações para dispositivos móveis para assim os seus utilizadores poderem obter a informação mais rápido, em qualquer altura, em qualquer lugar, no seu smartphone ou tablet. É imperativo que as aplicações para dispositivos móveis estão continuamente fornecer funcionalidades mais ricas, e mesmo apesar da actual aceitação das pessoas em relação aos dispositivos móveis, a tendência é para continuarem neste ritmo, ou até mesmo aumentar, pois os utilizadores estarão sempre a pedir mais, além disso, a concorrência entre os vendedores irá manter viva a evolução natural da tecnologia. Para construir uma empresa por trás de uma rede social exige um perfil empreendedor, e a vocação para o empreendedorismo não é baseada em Dna, cultura, origem ou religião, em breves palavras, não se nasce empreendedor. É algo que se desenvolve no tempo, e que se melhora com os erros cometidos, não só com os nossos mas como os erros de outros empreendedores. O espírito empreendedor é algo que cresce após a primeira ideia, e até mesmo antes, de forma inconsciente, através do desenvolvimento de competências específicas. A MyListBox é uma rede social que fornece um serviço específico, de criação de listas de presentes e partilha das mesmas com amigos e familiares, que disponibiliza aplicações para dispositivos móveis com iOS e Android, e futuramente aplicação para Windows Phone 7, que permitem os utilizadores acederem às suas listas, e às listas dos seus amigos a qualquer hora, em qualquer lugar mesmo não estando ligado à internet. No contexto do projecto MyListBox, o trabalho resultante desta tese teve como principais objectivos: - Apresentar as experiências no mundo do empreendedorismo - Resultados dos concursos de empreendedorismo - Estado da arte no universo das aplicações móveis - Avaliação dos mecanismos de segurança para aplicações móveis - Critérios da decisão na implementação dos métodos de consistência e replicação de dados.

Adsorptive stripping voltammetric determination of venlafaxine in urine with a mercury film microelectrode

An adsorptive stripping voltammetric procedure for the determination of the antidepressant venlafaxine in urine using a mercury film microelectrode wasdeveloped. The method is based on controlled adsorptive accumulation of the drug at the potential of 1.00V (vs. Ag/AgCl) in the presence of 1.25 x10 -2 molL- 1 borate buffer (pH 8.7). Urine samples were analyzed directly after performing a ten-fold dilution with the supporting electrolyte but without other pretreatment. The limit of detection obtained for a 30 s collection time was 0.693x 10- 6 mol L -1. Recovery experimentsgave good results at the 10 -6 mol L- 1 level (bias less 5% were obtained).

Voltammetric determination of dialifos in soils with a mercury film ultramicroelectrode

An extraction-adsorptive stripping voltammetric procedure for the determination of the pesticide dialifos in soil samples using microwave-assisted solvent extraction and a mercury film ultramicroelectrode was developed. The method is based on the use of hexane-acetone solvent (1:1, v/v) and on controlled adsorptive accumulation of the insecticide at the potential of -0.10V (versus Ag/AgCl) in the presence of Britton-Robinson buffer (pH 2.0). Soil sample extracts were analyzed directly after drying and redissolution with the supporting electrolyte, but without other pretreatment. The limit of detection obtained for a 10sec collection time was 2.0x10-8 mol L-1. Recovery experiments for the global procedure, at the 0.100µgg-1 level, gave satisfactory average and standard deviation results for the two different soils tested.

Admittance spectroscopy of Cu2ZnSnS4 based thin film solar cells

In this report, we propose an AC response equivalent circuit model to describe the admittance measurements of Cu2ZnSnS4 thin film solar cell grown by sulphurization of stacked metallic precursors. This circuit describes the contact resistances, the back contact, and the heterojunction with two trap levels. The study of the back contact resistance allowed the estimation of a back contact barrier of 246 meV. The analysis of the trap series with varying temperature revealed defect activation energies of 45 meV and 113 meV. The solar cell’s electrical parameters were obtained from the J-V curve: conversion efficiency, 1.21%; fill factor, 50%; open circuit voltage, 360 mV; and short circuit current density, 6.8 mA/cm2.

Mo bilayer for thin film photovoltaics revisited

Thin film solar cells based on Cu(In,Ga)Se2 as an absorber layer use Mo as the back contact. This metal is widely used in research and in industry but despite this, there are only a few published studies on the properties of Mo. Properties such as low resistivity and good adhesion to soda lime glass are hard to obtain at the same time. These properties are dependent on the deposition conditions and are associated with the overall stress state of the film. In this report, a study of the deposition of a Mo bilayer is carried out by analysing first single and then bilayers. The best properties of the bilayer were achieved when the bottom layer was deposited at 10 × 10−3 mbar with a thickness of 500 nm and the top layer deposited at 1 × 10−3 mbar with a thickness of 300 nm. The films deposited under these conditions showed good adhesion and a sheet resistivity lower than 0.8 .

Film thickness in a ball-on-disc contact lubricated with greases, bleed oils and base oils

Three different lubricating greases and their bleed and base oils were compared in terms of film thickness in a ball-on-disc test rig through optical interferometry. The theoretical values calculated according to Hamrock's equation are in close agreement with the base oil film thickness measurements, which validates the selected experimental methodology. The grease and bleed oil film thickness under fully flooded lubrication conditions presented quite similar behaviour and levels. Therefore, the grease film thickness under full film conditions might be predicted using their bleed oil properties, namely the viscosity and pressure-viscosity coefficient. The base and bleed oil lubricant parameter LP are proportional to the measured film thickness. A relationship between grease and the corresponding bleed oil film thickness was evidenced.

TiB2 nanostructured coating for GFRP injection moulds

In the injection moulding of polypropylene reinforced with hard glass fibres, die materials are commonly subjected to severe abrasive wear. In order to improve its wear resistance, an unbalanced magnetron sputtering PVD compositional monolayered coating has been produced. The film was composed by a nanostructured TiB2 monolayer. Microstructure characterization and thickness evaluation were conducted by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Film topography and roughness were accessed by SEM and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The phase analyse was investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), using Cu Kalpha radiation. Scratch tests were conducted in order to study the film adhesion to the substrate. Load-Displacement curves (nanoindentation analysis) allowed measuring the film hardness and Young's modulus. A ball-cratering tribometer was used to determine the micro-abrasion laboratorial wear resistance, under different tests conditions, using SiC particles in distilled water slurry. At the end of these tests, the worn surfaces were analyzed by SEM and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS) in order to compare these results with some other coatings already tested in the same conditions. To test the practical wear resistance, 135000 injection cycles were done in a plastic injection industrial mould. Coated samples were put on the plastic feed canal, after a turbulent zone. In these tests, a 30% (wt) glass fibres reinforced polypropylene was used. Worn sample surfaces were analyzed by SEM after 45.000 and 90.000 cycles. Image analyses were made in order to evaluate the damage increases and to observe the wear mechanisms involved.

The role of cultural mega events in the enhancement of city’s image attributes: differences between engaged and attendee participants

In a time of fierce competition between regions, an image serve as a basis to develop a strong sense of community, which fosters trust and cooperation that can be mobilized for regional growth. A positive image and reputation could be used in the promotional activities of the region benefiting all the stakeholders as a whole. Mega cultural events are frequently used to attract tourists and investments to a region, but also to enhance the city’s image. This study adopts a marketing/communication perspective of city’s image, and intends to explain how the image of the city is perceived by their residents. Specifically, we intend to compare the perceptions of residents that effectively participated in the Guimarães European Capital of Culture (ECOC) 2012 (engaged residents), and the residents that only assisted to the event (attendees). Several significant findings are reported and their implications for event managers and public policy administrators presented, along with the limitations of the study

Wuthering heights on the screen: exploring the relations between film adaptation and subtitling

This essay aims to confront the literary text Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë with five of its screen adaptations and Portuguese subtitles. Owing to the scope of the study, it will necessarily afford merely a bird‘s eye view of the issues and serve as a starting point for further research. Accordingly, the following questions are used as guidelines: What transformations occur in the process of adapting the original text to the screen? Do subtitles update the film dialogues to the target audience‘s cultural and linguistic context? Are subtitles influenced more by oral speech than by written literary discourse? Shouldn‘t subtitles in fact reflect the poetic function prevalent in screen adaptations of literary texts? Rather than attempt to answer these questions, we focus on the objects as phenomena. Our interdisciplinary undertaking clearly involves a semio-pragmatic stance, at this stage trying to avoid theoretical backdrops that may affect our apprehension of the objects as to their qualities, singularities, and conventional traits, based on Lucia Santaella‘s interpretation of Charles S. Peirce‘s phaneroscopy. From an empirical standpoint, we gather features and describe peculiarities, under the presumption that there are substrata in subtitling that point or should point to the literary source text, albeit through the mediation of a film script and a particular cinematic style. Therefore, we consider how the subtitling process may be influenced by the literary intertext, the idiosyncrasies of a particular film adaptation, as well as the socio-cultural context of the subtitler and target audience. First, we isolate one of the novel‘s most poignant scenes – ‗I am Heathcliff‘ – taking into account its symbolic play and significance in relation to character and plot construction. Secondly, we study American, English, French, and Mexican adaptations of the excerpt into film in terms of intersemiotic transformations. Then we analyze differences between the film dialogues and their Portuguese subtitles.

Person Localization Using Sensor Information Fusion

Nowadays the incredible grow of mobile devices market led to the need for location-aware applications. However, sometimes person location is difficult to obtain, since most of these devices only have a GPS (Global Positioning System) chip to retrieve location. In order to suppress this limitation and to provide location everywhere (even where a structured environment doesn’t exist) a wearable inertial navigation system is proposed, which is a convenient way to track people in situations where other localization systems fail. The system combines pedestrian dead reckoning with GPS, using widely available, low-cost and low-power hardware components. The system innovation is the information fusion and the use of probabilistic methods to learn persons gait behavior to correct, in real-time, the drift errors given by the sensors.

Cultura e desempenho nas organizações de economia social: um estudo em cooperativas

Este estudo tem como objetivo compreender a relação existente entre a cultura organizacional e o desempenho nas organizações de economia social, em particular nas cooperativas. A pertinência do objeto de estudo reside no facto de a economia social, em particular as cooperativas, ser reconhecidamente um fenómeno secular, tendo expressão na quase totalidade dos países do mundo, o que tem contribuído para o seu reconhecimento jurídico e político. A crescente importância que este setor tem adquirido nos diferentes países revela o seu potencial enquanto agente empregador e enquanto alternativa às formas organizacionais e gestionárias do sistema capitalista em vigor. Também, o cooperativismo representa um papel fundamental a nível da economia social, por ser um imprescindível ator da coesão social, promovendo a renovação da economia e sociedade, contribuindo para a criação de novas esperanças e oportunidades para as comunidades e os seus cidadãos. Por outro lado, no mundo globalizado em que se vive ocorrem mudanças que despertam a reavaliação de premissas culturais. Nesse sentido, a cultura organizacional é considerada um fator de grande importância para o bom desempenho das organizações em geral (Campos, Rédua & Alvareli, 2011). Para a recolha de dados, utilizou-se o questionário, tendo por base o Modelo dos Valores Contrastantes de Quinn & Rohbaugh (1983) para a cultura e, para o desempenho, recorreu-se ao Modelo de Análise de Medição do desempenho nas OES de Carvalho (2005) e questionário para medir a satisfação no trabalho.Os resultados contribuíram para sugerir linhas orientadoras para o aprofundamento da temática. Não foi encontrado um perfil cultural que esteja mais relacionado com o melhor desempenho das cooperativas. Neste trabalho, saiu evidenciado que: vários tipos de cultura podem ser importantes para a obtenção de bons desempenhos nas cooperativas, havendo maior predominância para as culturas de Clã, Adocracia e Mercado e menos predominância para a cultura de Hierarquia. No âmbito das cooperativas deste estudo, a cultura Hierarquia, percecionada como não predominante parece coocorre com o melhor desempenho. Realçando o facto de que, mesmo nas cooperativas em que não há procedimentos estruturados é possível ter um bom desempenho.
