Overproduction of the english definitive article by portuguese learners: a cross-sectional study

The English article system is actually so complex that it presents many challenges for most non-native learners of English. The main difficulty of Portuguese learners, despite the numerous similarities between the two article systems, is noticeable in a marked tendency to produce the definite article where native speakers of English would not use it. This article reports the results of a cross-sectional study which examined the English definite article overproduction by a group of 12 Portuguese EFL learners with at least seven years of English instruction. The prediction is that these learners will exhibit evidence of transferring L1 features to their interlanguage when they overuse the definite article. The data were collected by means of a gap-filling task and a composition. The results found, as predicted, that these learners overused the in generic contexts. It is argued that this overuse is directly tied to and can be explained by transfer to somewhere and conceptual transfer principles.

Quinoxaline, its derivatives and applications: A state of the art review.

Quinoxaline derivatives are an important class of heterocycle compounds, where N replaces some carbon atoms in the ring of naphthalene. Its molecular formula is C8H6N2, formed by the fusion of two aromatic rings, benzene and pyrazine. It is rare in natural state, but their synthesis is easy to perform. In this review the State of the Art will be presented, which includes a summary of the progress made over the past years in the knowledge of the structure and mechanism of the quinoxaline and quinoxaline derivatives, associated medical and biomedical value as well as industrial value. Modifying quinoxaline structure it is possible to obtain a wide variety of biomedical applications, namely antimicrobial activities and chronic and metabolic diseases treatment.

Pretende-se, com este Trabalho de Projecto, incitar a essa discussão o que acontece no que concerne à tradução de poesia, neste caso através da realização de uma tradução para a língua Inglesa da obra Sagrada Melancolia, de Sérgio Pereira. Mediante a discussão patente sobre a traduzibilidade da poesia, será esta impossível? Intraduzível? E, se possível, através de que metodologias, teorias e respectivas opções tradutivas? Para o presente Trabalho de Projecto foram consideradas e aplicadas as teorias de tradutores, linguistas e poetas, como John Dryden, Alexander Tytler, Eugène Nida, Roman Jakobson, Jean Paul Vinay e Jean Paul Darbelnet, Juliane House e Peter Newmark. Sendo a Poesia uma forma de Arte, a sua tradução será também Arte? Considera-se sugerir à editora a publicação da obra traduzida.
