Background - Image blurring in Full Field Digital Mammography (FFDM) is reported to be a problem within many UK breast screening units resulting in significant proportion of technical repeats/recalls. Our study investigates monitors of differing pixel resolution, and whether there is a difference in blurring detection between a 2.3 MP technical review monitor and a 5MP standard reporting monitor. Methods - Simulation software was created to induce different magnitudes of blur on 20 artifact free FFDM screening images. 120 blurred and non-blurred images were randomized and displayed on the 2.3 and 5MP monitors; they were reviewed by 28 trained observers. Monitors were calibrated to the DICOM Grayscale Standard Display Function. T-test was used to determine whether significant differences exist in blurring detection between the monitors. Results - The blurring detection rate on the 2.3MP monitor for 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1 mm blur was 46, 59, 66, 77and 78% respectively; and on the 5MP monitor 44, 70, 83 , 96 and 98%. All the non-motion images were identified correctly. A statistical difference (p <0.01) in the blurring detection rate between the two monitors was demonstrated. Conclusions - Given the results of this study and knowing that monitors as low as 1 MP are used in clinical practice, we speculate that technical recall/repeat rates because of blurring could be reduced if higher resolution monitors are used for technical review at the time of imaging. Further work is needed to determine monitor minimum specification for visual blurring detection.

Mononuclear manganese(II) [Mn(kappa O-HL)(2)(CH3OH)(4)] (4), nickel(II) [Ni(kappa O-2, kappa N-L)(H2O)(3)] (5), cadmium(II) [Cd(kappa O-2-HL)(2)(CH3OH)(3)] (7), tetranuclear zinc(II) [Zn-4(mu-OH)(2)(1 kappa O:2 kappa O-HL)(4)(kappa O-HL)(2)(H2O)(4)] (6) and polynuclear aqua sodium(I) [Na(H2O)(2)(mu-H2O)(2)](n)(HL)(n) (2) and magnesium(II) [Mg(OH)(H2O)(mu-H2O)(2)](n)(-HL)(n) (3) complexes were synthesized using 3-(2-carboxyphenyl-hydrazone)pentane-2,4-dione (H2L, 1) as a ligand precursor. The complexes were characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, IR, H-1 and C-13 NMR (for 2, 3, 6 and 7) spectroscopies. Mono- or dianionic deprotonated derivatives of H2L display different coordination modes and lead to topologies and nuclearities of the complexes depending on metal ions and conditions used for the syntheses. Extensive intermolecular H-bonds form supramolecular arrangements in 1D chains (4 and 6), 1D chains of the organic anion and 2D networks of the metal-aqua aggregates (2 and 3), 2D networks (7) or even 3D frameworks (5). Electrochemical studies, by cyclic voltammetry and controlled potential electrolysis, show ligand centred redox processes as corroborated by theoretical DFT calculations in terms of LUMO and HOMO compositions. One-pot template condensation of CCl3C=N with ammonia on a metal source [MnCl2 center dot 4H(2)O, FeCl3 center dot 6H(2)O or Co(CH3COO)(2)center dot 4H(2)O] in DMSO led to the formation of tris(2,4-bis(trichloromethyl)-1,3,5-triazapentadienato)-M(III) complexes, [M(NH=C(CCl3)NC(CCl3)=-NH}(3)]center dot n(CH3)(2)SO [M = Mn, n = 1 (1); M = Fe, n = 2 (2); M = Co, n = 2 (3)1, which were characterized using elemental analysis, and IR, ESI-MS and single-crystal X-ray analysis. The role of inter- and intramolecular non-covalent halogen and hydrogen bonds in the synthesis of 1-3 is discussed. It is shown that the crystal ionic radii of the metal ions [68.5 (Co) < 69 (Fe) < 72 (Mn), pm] are related to the corresponding Cl center dot center dot center dot Cl distances [3.178 (3) > 3.155 (2) > 3.133 (1) Al. Compounds 1-3 and the related di(triazapentadienato)-Cu(v) complex [Cu(NH=C(CCl3)NC(CCl3)=NH}2]center dot 2(CH3)(2)SO (4) act as catalyst precursors for the additive-free microwave (MW) assisted homogeneous oxidation of 1-phenylethanol with tert-butylhydroperoxide (TBHP), leading to the formation of acetophenone with yields up to 99% and TONs up to 5.0 x 10(3) after 1 h of low power (10 W) MW irradiation.

fac-[MBr(CO)(3)(pypzH)] (M = Mn, Re; pypzH = (3-(2-pyridyl) pyrazole) complexes are prepared from fac[ MBr(CO)(3)(NCMe)(2)] and pypzH. The result of their deprotonation depends on the metallic substrate: the rhenium complex affords cleanly the bimetallic compound [fac-{Re(CO)(3)(mu(2)-pypz)}] 2 (mu(2)-pypz = mu(2)-3-(2pyridyl-. 1N) pyrazolate-2. 1N), which was crystallographically characterized, whereas a similar manganese complex was not detected. When two equivalents of pyridylpyrazolate are used, polymetallic species [fac-M(CO) 3(mu(2)-pypz)(mu(3)-pypz) M'] (mu(3)-pypz = mu(3)-3-(2-pyridyl-kappa N-1) pyrazolate-1 kappa 2N, N: 2. 1N:; M = Mn, M' = Li, Na, K; M = Re, M' = Na) are obtained. The crystal structures of the manganese carbonylate complexes were determined. The lithium complex is a monomer containing one manganese and one lithium atom, whereas the sodium and potassium complexes are dimers and reveal an unprecedented coordination mode for the bridging 3-(2-pyridyl) pyrazolate ligand, where the nitrogen of the pyridyl fragment and the nitrogen-1 of pyrazolate are chelated to manganese atoms, and each nitrogen-2 of pyrazolate is coordinated to two alkaline atoms. The polymetallic carbonylate complexes are unstable in solution and evolve spontaneously to [fac-{Re(CO) 3(mu(2)-pypz)}](2) or to the trimetallic paramagnetic species [MnII(mu(2)-pypz) 2{fac-{MnI(CO) 3(mu(2)-pypz)}(2)}]. The related complex cis-[MnCl2(pypzH)(2)] was also synthesized and structurally characterized. The electrochemical behavior of the new homo-and heteropolymetallic 3-(2-pyridyl) pyrazolate complexes has been studied and details of their redox properties are reported.

Molybdenum and tungsten complexes containing the pypzH (3-(2-pyridyl)pyrazole) ligand as a chelating bidentate are prepared: [Mo(CO)(4)(pypzH)], cis-[MoBr(eta(3)-allyl)(CO)(2)(pypzH)], cis-[MoCl(eta(3)-methallyl)(CO)(2)(pypzH)], [MI2(CO)(3)(pypzH)] (M = Mo, W) from [Mo(CO)(4)(NBD)] or the adequate bis(acetonitrile) complexes. The deprotonation of the molybdenum allyl or methallyl complexes affords the bimetallic complexes [cis-{Mo(eta(3)-allyl)(CO)(2)(mu(2)-pypz)}](2) or [cis-{Mo(eta(3)-methallyl)(CO)(2)(mu(2)-pypz)}](2) (mu(2)-pypz = mu(2)-3-(2-pyridyl-kappa N-1) pyrazolate-2 kappa N-1). The allyl complex was subjected to an electrochemical study, which shows a marked connection between both metallic centres through the bridging pyridylpyrazolates.

Na terapêutica ocular há que considerar: 1. O tratamento propriamente dito das afecções oculares; 2. Os efeitos sistémicos dos medicamentos usados na terapêutica ocular; 3. Os efeitos dos medicamentos usados em terapêutica sistémica sobre as estruturas oculares. Medicamentos mais associados à toxicidade ocular: bifosfonatos, topiramato, vigabatrina, isotretinoína e outros retinóides, amiodarona, cloroquina e hidroxicloroquina, tamoxifeno, quetiapina, inibidores selectivos da COX-2, sildenafil.

The compounds [mPTA][CoCl4] (1, mPTA = N-methyl-1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane cation), [CoCl(H2O)(DION)(2)][BF4] (2, DION = 1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-dione), [Zn(DION)(2)]Cl-2 (3) and [ZnCl(O-PTA=O)(DION)][BF4] (4) were synthesized by reaction of CoCl2 with [mPTA]I or DION and ZnCl2 with DION or 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane-7-oxide (PTA=O) and DION, respectively. All complexes are water soluble and have been characterized by IR, far-IR, H-1, C-13 and P-31{H-1} NMR spectroscopy, ESI-MS, elemental analyses and single-crystal X-ray diffraction structural analysis (for 1). They were screened against the human tumour cell lines HCT116, HepG2 and MCF7. Complexes 2 and 3 exhibit the highest in vitro cytotoxicity and show lower cytotoxic activities in normal human fibroblast cell line than in HCT116 tumour cell line, which demonstrates their slight specificity for this type of tumour cell.
