The conditions for [pd(mnt)(2)]he growth of [pd(mnt)(2)]Perylene) [pd(mnt)(2)] [Pd(mnt) [pd(mnt)(2)]] crystals either by chemical oxidation and electrochemical routes are [pd(mnt)(2)]escribed. The electrocrystallisation is limited by close [pd(mnt)(2)]roximity of [pd(mnt)(2)]he oxidation [pd(mnt)(2)]otentials of [pd(mnt)(2)]he [pd(mnt)(2)]erylene [pd(mnt)(2)]onor and [Pd(mnt) [pd(mnt)(2)]] - anion, and [pd(mnt)(2)]epending on [pd(mnt)(2)]he experimental conditions [pd(mnt)(2)]ifferent [pd(mnt)(2)]orphologies can be obtained. [pd(mnt)(2)]Per) [pd(mnt)(2)] [Pd(mnt) [pd(mnt)(2)]] crystals obtained by elecrocrystallisation were found [pd(mnt)(2)]o be [pd(mnt)(2)]ainly of [pd(mnt)(2)]he β-polymorph with [pd(mnt)(2)]roperties comparable [pd(mnt)(2)]o [pd(mnt)(2)]he Cu, Ni and Pt analogues [pd(mnt)(2)]reviously [pd(mnt)(2)]escribed at variance with [pd(mnt)(2)]hose obtained by chemical oxidation which are [pd(mnt)(2)]ainly of [pd(mnt)(2)]he α-polymorph.

Coupling five rigid or flexible bis(pyrazolato)based tectons with late transition metal ions allowed us to isolate 18 coordination polymers (CPs). As assessed by thermal analysis, all of them possess a remarkable thermal stability, their decomposition temperatures lying in the range of 340-500 degrees C. As demonstrated by N-2 adsorption measurements at 77 K, their Langmuir specific surface areas span the rather vast range of 135-1758 m(2)/g, in agreement with the porous or dense polymeric architectures retrieved by powder X-ray diffraction structure solution methods. Two representative families of CPs, built up with either rigid or flexible spacers, were tested as catalysts in (0 the microwave-assisted solvent-free peroxidative oxidation of alcohols by t-BuOOH, and (ii) the peroxidative oxidation of cydohexane to cydohexanol and cydohexanone by H2O2 in acetonitrile. Those CPs bearing the rigid spacer, concurrently possessing higher specific surface areas, are more active than the corresponding ones with the flexible spacer. Moreover, the two copper(I)-containing CPs investigated exhibit the highest efficiency in both reactions, leading selectively to a maximum product yield of 92% (and TON up to 1.5 x 10(3)) in the oxidation of 1-phenylethanol and of 11% in the oxidation of cydohexane, the latter value being higher than that granted by the current industrial process.

The rheological and structural characteristics of acetoxypropylcellulose (APC) nematic melt are studied at shear rates ranging from 10 s(-1) to 1000 s(-1) which are relevant to extrusion based processes. APC shows a monotonic shear thinning behavior over the range of shear rates tested. The negative extrudate-swell shows a minimum when a critical shear rate (gamma) over dot(c) is reached. For shear rates smaller than (gamma) over dot(c), the flow-induced texture consists of two set of bands aligned parallel and normal to the flow direction. At shear rates larger than (gamma) over dot(c), the flow induced texture is reminiscent of a 2 fluids structure. Close to the shearing walls, domains elongated along the flow direction and stacked along the vorticity are imaged with POM, whereas SALS patterns indicate that the bulk of the sheared APC is made of elliptical domains oriented along the vorticity. No full nematic alignment is achieved at the largest shear rate tested. Below (gamma) over dot(c), the stress relaxation is described by a stretched exponential. Above (gamma) over dot(c), the stress relaxation is described by a fast and a slow process. The latter coincides with the growth of normal bands thicknesses, as the APC texture after flow cessation consists of two types of bands with parallel and normal orientations relative to the flow direction. Both bands thicknesses do not depend on the applied shear rate, in contrast to their orientation. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

This work addresses the present-day (<100 ka) mantle heterogeneity in the Azores region through the study of two active volcanic systems from Terceira Island. Our study shows that mantle heterogeneities are detectable even when "coeval" volcanic systems (Santa Barbara and Fissural) erupted less than 10 km away. These volcanic systems, respectively, reflect the influence of the Terceira and D. Joao de Castro Bank end-members defined by Beier et at (2008) for the Terceira Rift Santa Barbara magmas are interpreted to be the result of mixing between a HIMU-type component, carried to the upper mantle by the Azores plume, and the regional depleted MORB magmas/source. Fissural lavas are characterized by higher Ba/Nb and Nb/U ratios and less radiogenic Pb-206/Pb-204, Nd-143/Nd-144 and Hf-176/Hf-177, requiring the small contribution of delaminated sub-continental lithospheric mantle residing in the upper mantle. Published noble gas data on lavas from both volcanic systems also indicate the presence of a relatively undegassed component, which is interpreted as inherited from a lower mantle reservoir sampled by the ascending Azores plume. As inferred from trace and major elements, melting began in the garnet stability field, while magma extraction occurred within the spinel zone. The intra-volcanic system's chemical heterogeneity is mainly explained by variable proportions of the above-mentioned local end-members and by crystal fractionation processes. (C) 2011 Elsevier By. This work reports a recently developed electro-optical (EO) device that can potentially be used as a light shutter or a privacy window. By using nanocrystalline cellulose rods, we were able to improve some of the most relevant parameters characterising the EO behaviour. A brief description of the proposed working mechanism for these devices is presented, and numerical simulations based on this mechanism of both the optical transmission and the cells' electrical capacitance are compared with the obtained results, validating the underlying working model considered.

Population dynamics have been attracting interest since many years. Among the considered models, the Richards’ equations remain one of the most popular to describe biological growth processes. On the other hand, Allee effect is currently a major focus of ecological research, which occurs when positive density dependence dominates at low densities. In this chapter, we propose the dynamical study of classes of functions based on Richards’ models describing the existence or not of Allee effect. We investigate bifurcation structures in generalized Richards’ functions and we look for the conditions in the (β, r) parameter plane for the existence of a weak Allee effect region. We show that the existence of this region is related with the existence of a dovetail structure. When the Allee limit varies, the weak Allee effect region disappears when the dovetail structure also disappears. Consequently, we deduce the transition from the weak Allee effect to no Allee effect to this family of functions. To support our analysis, we present fold and flip bifurcation curves and numerical simulations of several bifurcation diagrams.
