A Heráldica do Exército Português tem reconhecidamente uma qualidade excepcional e os organismos que deste ramo das Forças Armadas dependem vêm recebendo armas bem ordenadas, com simbologia adequada à história e missão do organismo e de belo efeito plástico. Neste artigo são analisadas as armas e alguma emblemática, ordenadas nos últimos anos e que se reputam de exemplares. ABSTRACT - The Portuguese Army Heraldry has exceptional quality and its organisms have been receiving correct coats of arms with appropriate symbology to the history and mission of the organism and with good aesthetics. In this article are analyzed and some iconic coats of arms produced, in recent years, by the Army heraldry office, considered good examples.

DNA interaction and cytotoxicity studies of new ruthenium(II) cyclopentadienyl derivative complexescontaining heteroaromatic ligands

Four ruthenium(II) complexes with the formula [Ru(eta(5)-C(5)H(5))(PP)L][CF(3)SO(3)], being (PP = two triphenylphosphine molecules), L = 1-benzylimidazole, 1; (PP = two triphenylphosphine molecules), L = 2,2'bipyridine, 2; (PP = two triphenylphosphine molecules), L = 4-Methylpyridine, 3; (PP = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphine) ethane), L = 4-Methylpyridine, 4, were prepared, in view to evaluate their potentialities as antitumor agents. The compounds were completely characterized by NMR spectroscopy and their crystal and molecular structures were determined by X-ray diffraction. Electrochemical studies were carried out giving for all the compounds quasi-reversible processes. The images obtained by atomic force microscopy (AFM) suggest interaction with pBR322 plasmid DNA. Measurements of the viscosity of solutions of free DNA and DNA incubated with different concentrations of the compounds confirmed this interaction. The cytotoxicity of compounds 1234 was much higher than that of cisplatin against human leukemia cancer cells (HL-60 cells). IC(50) values for all the compounds are in the range of submicromolar amounts. Apoptotic death percentage was also studied resulting similar than that of cisplatin. (C) 2010 Elsevier Inc. RESUMO: Aborda-se a heráldica autárquica portuguesa não sob o aspecto da correcção da ordenação dos brasões de armas, mas privilegiando-se a abordagem em termos artísticos, ou seja a experimentação estética das armas e sua experimentação em termos de inovação e criatividade.

Offshore wind turbine simulation: multibody drive train. Bacl-to-back NPC (Neutral Point Clamped) converters: Fractional-order control

This paper is on offshore wind energy conversion systems installed on the deep water and equipped with back-to-back neutral point clamped full-power converter, permanent magnet synchronous generator with an AC link. The model for the drive train is a five-mass model which incorporates the dynamic of the structure and the tower in order to emulate the effect of the moving surface. A three-level converter and a four-level converter are the two options with a fractional-order control strategy considered to equip the conversion system. Simulation studies are carried out to assess the quality of the energy injected into the electric grid. Finally, conclusions are presented. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Synthesis and structural characterization of new Piano-stool Ruthenium(II) complexes bearing 1-Butylimidazole heteroaromatic ligand

New cationic ruthenium(II) complexes with the formula [Ru(eta(5)-C5H5)(LL)(1-BuIm)] [Z], with (LL) = 2PPh(3) or DPPE, and Z = CF3SO3-, PF6-, BPh4-, have been synthesized and fully characterized. Spectroscopic and electrochemical studies revealed that the electronic properties of the coordinated 1-butylimidazole were clearly influenced by the nature of the phosphane coligands (LL) and also by the different counter ions. The solid state structures of the six complexes determined by X-ray crystallographic studies, confirmed the expected distorted three-legged piano stool structure. However the geometry of the 1-butylimidazole ligand was found considerably different in all six compounds, being governed by the stereochemistry of the mono and bidentate coligands (PPh3 or DPPE).
