e-Health and Health literacy: a revision of research methods

E-health provides powerful tools to improve health, but users’ health literacy – their ability to obtain, process, and act appropriately on health information – plays a role in their ability to make the most of e-health applications. This project reviewed research focused on e-health and health literacy, coding 94 articles to provide an overview of the field including use of theory and research methods. Findings indicate a lack of theory and use of established health literacy measures.

Musealising hope: reflections on the saga of an artistic installation of human solidarity

“Musealising hope” reflects on the trials and tribulations of an installation designed as a tribute to the struggle for survival of African peoples who dare make the long trek to Europe by sea. Its accomplishment involved a number of players whose conduct and reactions to events bear witness to the manner in which artists, the media, heads of cultural institutions, museologists, welfare institutions, and politicians cope with the phenomenon of immigration and with our present-day multicultural societies. In turn, this artistic endeavour and its symbolic signification highlight the changes which art and culture have undergone over the past few years and the kind of transformation which new inter-ethnic communities have brought to bear on concepts such as national heritage, identity or memory.

A literacia em saúde

A literacia em saúde é, no enquadramento socioeconómico actual, cada vez mais necessária. A autora, na sua prática profissional, apercebe-se que os pacientes são cada vez mais confrontados com decisões mais difíceis em saúde, quando na maior parte das vezes têm dificuldades em ler e compreender uma simples informação médica. O problema de investigação deste estudo é o de saber qual o grau de literacia em saúde manifestado pelos pacientes de um serviço de Imagiologia de uma instituição hospitalar portuguesa. Foi efectuada pesquisa bibliográfica sobre os principais conceitos, após o que foram definidos os objectivos da investigação empírica a concretizar com a distribuição de um questionário sobre literacia em saúde.Com recurso à metodologia exploratória e descritiva foi estudada a literacia em saúde. Como conclusão principal destaca-se o défice de habilitações académicas da população estudada, o que tem como consequência uma baixa literacia em saúde, a qual por sua vez tem efeitos ao nível da eficácia dos tratamentos.
