Belonging to a community: the mediation of belonging

This paper introduces the concept of belonging and discusses it in the context of online social networking experience and community experience considering social capital and user’s activities as nuclear concepts to understand collective actions and social relationships mediated by social media. The paper presents an empirical approach based on the study of two local communities and analyses whether interactive social technologies promote greater social involvement and higher production of social capital and participation, that results in a greater sense of belonging within communities. The results indicate a positive relationship between the use of social media and the increase of social capital and sense of belonging. Our work discusses the role and influence of social media in communitarian practices and the relevance social capital theory has as an outcome of media technologies use that result in a greater sense of belonging to a community.

Museus e preservação patrimonial: a lagoa escura da memória - o abaeté no imaginário dos moradores do bairro de Itapuã

Inicialmente, agradecemos e registramos a nossa satisfação em participar desta conferência, considerando-a, como uma oportunidade de refletirmos acerca dos princípios que norteiam as ações museológicas, nos mais diversos contextos dessa realidade tão complexa, que de uma maneira bastante superficial, mas, historicamente aceita, foi definida como América Latina. Aproveito para parabenizar a Secretaria de Estado da Cultura de São Paulo, o Departamento de Museus e Arquivos e o Comitê Nacional Brasileiro do Conselho Internacional de Museus, bem como o coordenador desta conferência - Dr. Carlos Alberto Dêgelo e toda a equipe organizadora deste evento, tendo em vista as dificuldades que encontramos para organizar congressos dessa natureza, considerando a situação difícil que o nosso país atravessa.

Seeing films: audiences reaction to local cultural products

This paper discusses the results of a large survey conducted in 2006 on the perception Portuguese movies’ audiences have of their own locally produced films. Audience’s reception of locally produced films is marked by the rejection of the consumption of these objects as a result of a bias against locally produced cultural artefacts. The prejudice shaping this relationship, not only demands for new cultural and social politics, but also raises a number of questions on local and European media industry’s ability to cope with its own audiences’ expectations. Finally, broader considerations are made on the different ways contemporary audiences are shaping media technologies, and their respective cultural artefacts, through their own use and reception of those technologies and artefacts.

«Estudar história com os pés na terra»: uma perspectiva museológica aplicada ao currículo da história no 3º ciclo do Ensino Básico: o caso de Alcobaça

RESUMO: Analisando o actual contexto do Ensino Básico na perspectiva da docência da História, o presente trabalho problematiza a contribuição da disciplina para a formação dos cidadãos. Estruturado a partir da análise das sintonias existentes entre a Educação, a História e a Museologia, relativamente a conceitos-chave como o Património Cultural e as suas formas de abordagem, a investigação propõe uma perspectiva museológica sobre o actual currículo da disciplina de História. Aplicando metodologias e conceitos desenvolvidos na Museologia, a proposta curricular estrutura-se a partir das componentes locais e regionais do currículo (na óptica da História) da região específica de Alcobaça. Centrado na aplicação da relação entre o Ensino da História por competências e o desenvolvimento da Consciência Histórica, num espaço concreto, este trabalho constrói uma proposta visando contribuir para os debates existentes e necessários no contexto da relação entre os saberes da escolaridade e as práticas de Cidadania, designadamente a contribuição activa dos indivíduos para o desenvolvimento da(s) comunidade(s). ABSTRACT: This research arises the problem of Compulsory Highschool from the perspective of teaching History, that matters the contribution to the Education of Citizenship. Structured from the analyses of the agreements between Education, History and Museology, concerning concepts like Cultural Heritage and its forms of communication, this research makes a proposition based on a museological perspective applied to History curriculum. This curricular approach is anchored in local and regional components of curriculum (from the historical view point) to Alcobaça and its region. Focused on the exercise of a relationship between Teaching History by skills development and the bringing up of an Historical Consciousness in a specific territory, this research builds a curricular proposition aiming to contributing to the discussions (current and necessaries) in the context of the connections between school acknowledgments and citizenship practices, specially the individual’s active engagement in communities development.
