Design factors affecting the success of settlement upgrading projects. Favela Bairro Program, Rio de Janeiro

One of the main stated objectives of the Favela Bairro program was to allow squatter settlements to become part of the formal city. The focus of the study is to assess how different project solutions in the Favela Bairro program have used urban design tools to achieve this objective. A subsequent question concerns the extent to which urban design factors helped to improve the social integration of the settlements, and specifically to overcome poverty and exclusion conditions.This bring us to a another group of problems related to indicators to measure the attainment of these objectives from four perspectives: Spatial, Social, Economical and Political (citizenship and participation)This analysis highlights the major difficulties confronted by the design teams, and allows pinpointing the positive and negative impacts of the interventions on the communities and the city

The integration of Biographical Knowledge in research processes is a methodological proposal of critical empiricism that shifts the centre of production of knowledge to the research objects. We try to show haw Biographical Narratives can allow bypassing the locks and the deviations from real observation by the researcher and focus is work on actors in process. In the critique of the Eurocentric paradigm and is production of hegemonic scientific discourses by Bonaventura Sousa Santos (Santos, 2000) proposes the "south epistemologies" as a research process and the inclusion of knowledge of actors as the research field. In the article we will try to look at the process of production of biographical narratives using the tools of south epistemological proposal. We start reviewing the methodologies working on biographical objects. Then we present the preliminary studies and research we have been doing in communities in southern Mozambique in Djabula Community Centre. These results should be completed with other works on the ground, and now we opened as a collaborative process discussion on African Studies community. The project will be completed in the coming months, through the proposal of a "House of memories" to develop with the local population through articles, stories, sounds and dances that are chosen and will support the chosen narratives by the community. The projects created with local players, from their problems allow rapprochement and dialogue between the different knowledge.

Passo a passo : rumo à inclusão e cooperação numa turma CEF

O presente estudo empírico incide sobre uma turma de um Curso de Educação e Formação (CEF) do nono ano e as estratégias conducentes à sua inclusão na comunidade escolar, através da formação e mediante o espírito de colaboração dos seus membros. Tratava-se de um grupo de alunos inseridos numa EB 2,3 de um Território Educativo de Intervenção Prioritária (TEIP), cujo percurso estava pautado pelo insucesso escolar, absentismo, abandono escolar, desmotivação, incumprimento de regras, ausência de relações entre os pares e sentimentos de exclusão. A intervenção assentou numa metodologia qualitativa numa abordagem de investigação-ação e no pressuposto de que a implementação de um modelo de aprendizagem cooperativa, através de um conjunto de projetos na escola, sala de aula, famílias e comunidade local, conduziria ao sucesso educativo da turma e à sua transição para o mundo laboral. Recorreu-se à pesquisa documental, sociometria, entrevista, inquéritos por questionário e observação naturalista para recolher dados numa primeira fase. Posteriormente repetiram-se aquelas técnicas e utilizou-se a criação de um blogue para proceder à avaliação da intervenção. Os resultados mostram que a cooperação no seio da turma contribuiu para a sua inclusão na comunidade escolar e para o sucesso escolar e integração profissional da maioria dos seus alunos.
