Eis que existem boas notícias científicas em Portugal. O WAML World Congress é o maior e mais prestigiado congresso mundial de direito médico. E, desta vez, vai ter lugar em Portugal, mais em concreto na Cidade capital do Mondego, Coimbra, entre os próximos dias 2 e 7 de Agosto de 2015. O seu Presidente ou Chairman, será o especialista português em direito médico, professor da Faculdade de Direito da Universidade de Coimbra, Doutor André Gonçalo Dias Pereira. Especialista que já esteve a fazer um excelente Seminário em Barcelos, Escola Superior de Gestão do Instituto Politécnico do Cávado e do Ave, no dia 26 de Maio de 2014, com o título de “O Direito da Concorrência: análise de um caso real”. The objective of this paper is to provide empirical evidence on the determinants of gender wage inequality in the Portuguese tourism industry. Relying on firm level wage equations and production functions, gender wage and productivity differentials are estimated and then compared in order to infer whether observed gender disparities are justifiable on the grounds that women are relatively less productive than men, or instead disparities are due to gender wage discrimination. This approach is applied to tourism industry data gathered in the matched employer-employee data set Quadros de Pessoal (Employee Records). The main findings indicate that female employees in the tourism industry in Portugal are less productive than their male colleagues and that gender differences in wages are fully explained by gender differences in productivity.

Tourism represents a major economic activity in Portugal, with an enormous wealth and employment growth potential. A significant proportion of jobs in the industry tourism are occupied by women, given that this industry is characterized by a relatively higher percentage of female employees. Despite the evidence of female progress with regard to their role in the Portuguese labor market, women continue to earn less than their male counterparts. This is clearly the case of the tourism industry, where statistics reveal a persistent gender wage gap. The objective of this paper is to provide empirical evidence on the determinants of gender wage inequality in the tourism industry in northern Portugal. In this article we aim to identify and analyze a set of variables related to the organizational and environ-mental strategy that can potentially influence the adoption of the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) in Portuguesecompanies of different sizes. Hypotheses were tested using data obtained from a questionnaire sent to549 privately-owned Portuguese organizations (small and medium enterprises and large companies),with an overall response rate of 28.2%. The results allow us to conclude that the BSC is independent ofthe activity/industry in which the organization operates. Furthermore, we have found that organizationsthat follow a defensive strategy attach greater importance to the BSC financial perspective or equiva-lent. On the other hand, we did not find empirical evidence regarding the possible relationship betweenthe BSC, the type of strategy adopted by the organization, the phase/stage of the life cycle in which theorganization is located, and the environmental intensity competition.
