Vanadyl phosphate and its hybrid compounds have proven to undergo electrochemical intercalation and de-intercalation of lithium ions, which enables its use as cathode material for Li ion rechargeable batteries. In this context, vanadyl phosphate di-hydrate/polyaniline derivatives hybrid films were synthesized via the exfoliation and reconstruction approach in order to evaluate their potential use as cathode in ion lithium batteries. X-ray diffraction patterns indicate that the lamellar structure of the inorganic matrix is maintained, consistent with the topotactic process. In the scanning electron micrographs, hybrid films exhibit rough surface consisting of warped and cracked crystallites, quite different from vanadyl phosphate di-hydrate square platelets crystallites. Electrochemical evaluation using cyclic voltammetry and charge-discharge galvanostatic techniques shows small differences between the charge and the discharge curves, indicating an irreversibility of the hybrid systems. Brumadoite, ideally Cu(2)Te(6+)O(4)(OH)(4)center dot 5H(2)O, is a new mineral from Pedra Preta mine, Serra das Eguas, Brumado, Bahia, Brazil. It occurs as microcrystalline aggregates both on and, rarely, pseudomorphous after coarse-grained magnesite, associated with mottramite and quartz. Crystals are platy, subhedral, 1-2 mu m in size. Brumadoite is blue (near RHS 114B), has a pale blue streak and a vitreous lustre. It is transparent to translucent and does not fluoresce. The empirical formula is (Cu(2.90)Pb(0.04)Ca(0.01))(Sigma 2.95) (Te(0.93)(6+)Si(0.05))(Sigma 0.98)O(3.92)(OH)(3.84)center dot 5.24H(2)O. Infrared spectra clearly show both (OH) and H(2)O. Microchemical spot tests using a KI Solution show that brumadoite has tellurium in the 6(+) state. The mineral is monoclinic, P2(1)/m or P2(1). Unit-cell parameters refined from X-ray powder data are a 8.629(2) angstrom, b 5.805(2) angstrom, c 7.654(2) angstrom, beta 103.17(2)degrees, V 373.3(2) angstrom(3), Z = 2. The eight strongest X-ray powder-diffraction lines [d in angstrom, (l),(hkl)] are: 8.432,(100),(100); 3.162,(66),((2) over bar 02); 2.385,(27),(220); 2.291,((1) over bar 12),(22); 1.916,(11),(312); 1.666,(14),((4) over bar 22,114); 1.452,(10), (323, 040); 1.450,(10),(422,403). The name is for the type locality, Brumado, Bahia, Brazil. The new mineral species has been approved by the CNMNC (IMA 2008-028).

Myelomeningocele (MMC) is a congenital malformation of the neural tube that occurs in the first weeks of pregnancy. This malformation refers to the caudal non-closure of the neural tube and neural tissue exposure, which lead to neurological problems, such as hydrocephalus, motor disability, genitourinary tract and skeletal abnormalities and mental retardation. Patients with MMC have an acknowledged predisposition to latex allergy and are usually at a high caries risk and activity due to poor oral hygiene, fermentable carbon hydrate-rich diet and prolonged use of sugar-containing medications. This paper addresses the common oral findings in pediatric patients with MMC, discusses the strategies and precautions to deal with these individuals and reports the dental care to a young child diagnosed with this condition.

In the title hydrate, C(16)H(15)BrO(2)SSe center dot H(2)O, the sulfinyl O atom lies on the opposite side of the molecule to the Se and carbonyl O atoms. The benzene rings form a dihedral angle of 51.66 (17)degrees and are splayed with respect to each other. The observed conformation allows the water molecules to bridge sulfinyl O atoms via O-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds, generating a linear supramolecular chain along the b axis; the chain is further stabilized by C-H center dot center dot center dot O contacts. The chains are held in place in the crystal structure by C center dot center dot center dot H center dot center dot center dot pi and C-Br center dot center dot center dot pi interactions.

Matsumoto T, Tostes RC, Webb RC. Uridine adenosine tetraphosphate-induced contraction is increased in renal but not pulmonary arteries from DOCA-salt hypertensive rats. First published May 6, 2011; doi:10.1152/ajpheart.00084.2011.-Uridine adenosine tetraphosphate (Up(4)A) was reported as a novel endothelium-derived contracting factor. Up(4)A contains both purine and pyrimidine moieties, which activate purinergic (P2)X and P2Y receptors. However, alterations in the vasoconstrictor responses to Up(4)A in hypertensive states remain unclear. The present study examined the effects of Up(4)A on contraction of isolated renal arteries (RA) and pulmonary arteries (PA) from DOCA-salt rats using isometric tension recording. RA from DOCA-salt rats exhibited increased contraction to Up(4)A versus arteries from control uninephrectomized rats in the absence and presence of N(G)-nitro-L-arginine (nitric oxide synthase inhibitor). On the other hand, the Up(4)A-induced contraction in PA was similar between the two groups. Up(4)A-induced contraction was inhibited by suramin (nonselective P2 antagonist) but not by diinosine pentaphosphate pentasodium salt hydrate (Ip5I; P2X(1) antagonist) in RA from both groups. Furthermore, 2-thiouridine 5`-triphosphate tetrasodium salt (2-Thio-UTP; P2Y(2) agonist)-, uridine-5`-(gamma-thio)-triphosphate trisodium salt (UTP gamma S; P2Y(2)/P2Y(4) agonist)-, and 5-iodouridine-5`-O-diphosphate trisodium salt (MRS 2693; P2Y(6) agonist)-induced contractions were all increased in RA from DOCA-salt rats. Protein expression of P2Y(2)-, P2Y(4)-, and P2Y(6) receptors in RA was similar between the two groups. In DOCA-salt RA, the enhanced Up(4)A-induced contraction was reduced by PD98059, an ERK pathway inhibitor, and Up(4)Astimulated ERK activation was increased. These data are the first to indicate that Up(4)A-induced contraction is enhanced in RA from DOCA-salt rats. Enhanced P2Y receptor signaling and activation of the ERK pathway together represent a likely mechanism mediating the enhanced Up(4)A-induced contraction. Up(4)A might be of relevance in the pathophysiology of vascular tone regulation and renal dysfunction in arterial hypertension.

For the first time, crystals of suitable size for X-ray diffractometry structure determination (Dian important anti-HI V drug were prepared under solvothermal conditions. In this study, the crystal structure of didanosine (2`,3`-dideoxyinosine, ddI) in the form of a hydrate was determined using single-crystal X-ray diffractometry. Powder X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that the solid-state phase of the drug incorporated into pharmaceutical solid dosage forms is isostructural to the solvothermally prepared ddI material, even though they do not exhibit an identical chemical composition due to different water fractions occupying hydrophobic channels formed within the crystal lattice. Two ddI conformers are present in the structure, in agreement with a previous structure elucidation attempt. Concerning the keto enol equilibrium of ddI, our crystal data and vibrational characterizations by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and FT-Raman spectroscopy techniques were conclusive to state that both conformers exist in the keto form, contrary to solid-state NMR spectroscopic assignments that suggested ddI molecules occur as enol tautomers. In addition, characterizations by thermal (differential scanning calorimetry) and spectroscopic techniques allowed us to understand the structural similarities and the differences related to the hydration pattern of the nonstoichiometric hydrates.
