Da fotografia como arte à arte como fotografia: a experiência do Museu de Arte Contemporânea da USP na década de 1970

Este ensaio visa sistematizar os primeiros resultados de uma pesquisa, ainda em curso, sobre o processo de legitimação da fotografia pelo sistema de arte no Brasil, cujo foco principal é o museu. Os museus de arte da cidade de São Paulo foram escolhidos para dar início a essa investigação. Primeiramente, será abordada, em linhas gerais, a presença da fotografia no Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo e na Bienal de São Paulo, dada a vinculação de origem do Museu de Arte Contemporânea com essas duas instituições paulistanas. Na seqüência será analisada a formação do acervo fotográfico do Museu de Arte Contemporânea da Universidade de São Paulo durante a década de 1970. Por fim, esse percurso permitirá observar que a atuação de Walter Zanini, o primeiro diretor do Museu, e as particularidades da posição do MAC-USP no sistema de arte no Brasil naquele período resultaram no entendimento da fotografia prioritariamente no âmbito da arte contemporânea de caráter experimental e não como obra de arte autônoma, segundo os princípios da chamada fotografia artística.

Contribuição para o estudo dos Rhinotragini (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae). III: Oxyommata Zajciw, 1970 e novo gênero oriundo da divisão de Xenocrasis Bates, 1873

Oxyommata Zajciw, 1970 e O. collaris (Audinet-Serville, 1833) são redescritos e comentados. Um novo gênero proveniente da divisão de Xenocrasis Bates, 1873 é descrito e três espécies alocadas nele: X. fulvicollis(Lacordaire, 1868); X. pubipennis (Fisher, 1952); e X. vestitipennis Zajciw, 1963. É apresentada chave para as espécies do novo gênero.

Harris-Benedict equation for critically ill patients: Are there differences with indirect calorimetry?

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the measured energy expenditure (EE) and the estimated basal EE (BEE) in critically ill patients. Materials and Methods: Seventeen patients from an intensive care unit were randomly evaluated. Indirect calorimetry was performed to calculate patient`s EE, and BEE was estimated by the Harris-Benedict formula. The metabolic state (EE/BEE x 100) was determined according to the following criteria: hypermetabolism, more than 130%; normal metabolism, between 90% and 130%; and hypometabolism, less than 90%. To determine the limits of agreement between EE and BEE, we performed a Bland-Altman analysis. Results: The average EE of patients was 6339 +/- 1119 kJ/d. Two patients were hypermetabolic (11.8%), 4 were hypometabolic (23.5%), and 11 normometabolic (64.7%). Bland-Altman analysis showed a mean of -126 +/- 2135 kJ/d for EE and BEE. Only one patient was outside the limits of agreement between the 2 methods (indirect calorimetry and Harris-Benedict). Conclusions: The calculation of energy needs can be done with the equation of Harris-Benedict associated with lower values of correction factors (approximately 10%) to avoid overfeeding, with constant monitoring of anthropometric and biochemical parameters to assess the nutritional changing and adjust the infusion of energy. Four terebellines (Polychaeta, Terebellidae) with problematic taxonomic histories

Four taxa of terebellines with problematic taxonomic histories are redescribed. One is a new species that has been mis-identified for the last 37 years and one is allocated to a different genus from that to which it was previously assigned. Pista corrientis McIntosh, 1885 was described from Argentina and has been reported from several localities along the Brazilian coast. Examination of the holotype of P. corrientis revealed that the Brazilian specimens belong to a separate species, herein described as P. nonatoi sp. nov., and a redescription of the holotype of P. corrientis is provided. Pista sombreriana (McIntosh, 1885) was considered indeterminable due to the poor condition of the holotype. Our examination of the holotype showed that although it is poorly preserved most taxonomic characters are visible. The morphology of the lobes on anterior segments, especially those of segments 3-4, is closer to Lanicides than to Pista but considering that Lanicides is also poorly defined we redescribe P. sombreriana under its original designation. Finally, Eupolymnia turgidula (Ehlers, 1887) has been considered as a junior synonym of E. crassicornis (Schmarda, 1861) but a recent study resurrected it as a valid species of Terebella, which was the original generic designation. According to our examination of the holotype, E. turgidula does belong to Eupolymnia, but it is uncertain as to whether it is a valid species or a synonym of either E. crassicornis or E. magnifica (Webster, 1884).
