We use QCD sum rules to test the nature of the recently observed mesons Y(4260), Y(4350) and Y(4660), assumed to be exotic four-quark (c (c) over barq (q) over bar) or (c (c) over bars (s) over bar) states with J(PC)= 1(--). We work at leading order in alpha(s), consider the contributions of higher dimension condensates and keep terms which are linear in the strange quark mass m(s). We find for the (c (c) over bars (s) over bar) state a mass in m(Y) = (4.65 +/- 0.10) GeV which is compatible with the experimental candidate Y (4660), while for the (c (c) over barq (q) over bar) state we find a mass in m(Y) = (4.49 +/- 0.11) GeV, which is still consistent with the mass of the experimental candidate Y(4350). With the tetraquark structure we are working we cannot explain the Y(4260) as a tetraquark state. We also consider molecular D(s0)(D) over bar (s)* and D(0)(D) over bar* states. For the D(s0)(D) over bar (s)* molecular state we get m(Ds0 (D) over bars*) = (4.42 +/- 0.10) GeV which is consistent, considering the errors, with the mass of the meson Y(4350) and for the D(0)(D) over bar* molecular state we get m(D0 (D) over bar*) = (4.27 +/- 0.10) GeV in excellent agreement with the mass of the meson Y(4260). All-trans-retinoic acid (atRA) appears to affect Th1-Th2 differentiation and its effects on immune responses might also be mediated by dendritic cell (DC). Nonetheless, studies have been showing contradictory results since was observed either induction or inhibition of DC differentiation. Our aim was to investigate atRA action on human monocyte derived DC differentiation. For this purpose we tested pharmacological and physiological doses of atRA with or without cytokines. Cell phenotypes were analyzed by flow cytometry and function was investigated by phagocytosis and respiratory burst. DC, positive control group, was differentiated with GM-CSF and IL-4 and maturated with TNF-alpha. We demonstrated that atRA effects depend on the dose used as pharmacological doses inhibited expression of all phenotypic markers tested while a physiological dose caused cell differentiation. However, atRA combined or not with cytokines did not promote DC differentiation. In fact, atRA was detrimental on IL-4 property as a DC inductor. (C) 2009 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

This work involved an investigation to ascertain how the substitution of nickel ions for zinc ions affects the structural, morphological and magnetic properties of NiFe(2)O(4) ferrite samples. Ni(1-x)Zn(x)Fe(2)O(4) (x = 0.0, 0.3 0.5, 0.7) powders were prepared by combustion reaction and characterized structurally by X-ray diffraction. The specific surface area of the powders was determined by the nitrogen adsorption method (BET). Magnetization measurements were taken using an alternative gradient magnetometer (AGM), which revealed that the powders prepared by combustion reaction resulted in nanosized particles with a particle size of 18-27 nm. The crystallite size and lattice parameter increased as the concentration of Zn increased. Moreover, augmenting the Zn content in the NiFe(2)O(4) ferrite increased the saturation magnetization and coercive field. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

New tetraruthenated manganese (III) porphyrins were synthesized and characterized (P-31 NMR, cyclic voltammetry, UV-Vis). This new system presents four units of cationic ``[RuCl(dppb)(X-bipy)](+)``. The electrochemical and catalytic properties of the central manganese (III) show dependence on the characteristics of the peripheral ruthenium complexes as evidenced by the Mn-(III)/Mn-(II) reduction potential. The catalytic oxidation reactions of olefins, cyclohexene and cyclohexane, were carried out in the presence of tetrapyridyl manganese (III) porphyrins containing cationic ruthenium complex and using iodosylbenzene as oxygen donor. The performance of these new tetraruthenated porphyrins systems were evaluated and compared with the manganese porphyrin. (C) 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Rhodamine 6G (RH6G) laser dye-doped AlPO(4) xerogel and glass were prepared via a simple sol-gel route by one-step process and two-step process, respectively. The aggregating behavior of dyes in xerogel and glass was studied by excitation and emission spectra. The results indicated the dye aggregates become significantly weak in AlPO(4) glass than in xerogel, which might be attributed to the enhanced interactions between dye and AlPO(4) network as well as the nano-scale separation of dye by the mesoporous structure of AlPO(4) glass. The (27)Al MAS NMR of AlPO(4) glass confirms the interaction of RH6G with AlPO(4) glass network. Incorporation of RH6G into AlPO(4) glass converts Al(4) to Al(6) units, resulting in the increase of Al(6) concentration with the doped RH6G concentration. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. Fluorescent AlPO(4) xerogels doped with different amounts of Rhodamine 6G (Rh6G) laser dye were prepared by a one-step sal-gel process. In addition, mesoporous AlPO(4) glasses obtained from undoped gels were loaded with different amounts of Rh6G by wet impregnation. Optical excitation and emission spectra of both series of samples show significant dependences on Rh6G concentration, revealing the influence of dye molecular aggregation. At comparable dye concentrations the aggregation effects are found to be significantly stronger in the gels than in the mesoporous glasses. This effect might be attributed to stronger interactions between the dye molecules and the glass matrix, resulting in more efficient dye dispersion in the latter. The interaction of Rh6G with the glassy AlPO(4) network has been probed by (27)Al and (31)P solid-state NMR techniques. New five- and six-coordinated aluminum environments have been observed and characterized by advanced solid-state NMR techniques probing (27)Al-(1)H and (27)Al-(31)P internuclear dipole couplings. The fractional area of these new Al sites is correlated with the combined fractional area of two new Q(3Al)((0)) and Q(2Al)((0)) phosphate species observed in the (31)P MAS NMR spectra. Based on this correlation as well as detailed composition dependent studies, we suggest that the new signals arise from the breakage of Al-O-P linkages associated with the insertion process.
