The epistemological basis of the metaphysics of the Will of Arthur Schopenhauer

RESUMO: Analisamos neste artigo a teoria do conhecimento de Arthur Schopenhauer com base em sua dissertação Sobre a quádrupla raiz do princípio de razão suficiente (1813), seu ensaio Sobre a visão e as cores (1816), os dois primeiros livros de O mundo como vontade e representação (1819), bem como o apêndice a esta obra intitulado Crítica da filosofia kantiana. Aqui temos em mente a relação de Schopenhauer com as filosofias anteriores (em especial a de Kant) e a fundamentação de sua intuição do mundo como Vontade baseada em uma epistemologia de raízes kantianas.

THE EFFECTS OF BROMAZEPAM ON THE PERFORMANCE OF A SENSORY-MOTOR ACTIVITY: AN ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAPHIC STUDY

Aims. To investigate the effects of using bromazepam on the relative power in alpha while performing a typing task. Bearing in mind the particularities of each brain hemisphere, our hypothesis was that measuring the relative power would allow its to investigate the effects of bromazepam oil specific areas of the cortex. More, specifically, we expected to observe different patterns of powers in sensory-motor integration, attention and activation processes. Subjects and methods. The sample was made up of 39 subjects (15 males and 24 females) with a mean age of 30 +/- 10 years. The control (placebo) and experimental (3 mg and 6 mg of bromazepam) groups were trained ill the typing task with a randomised double-blind model. Results. Esophageal CandidiasisAn Adverse Effect of Inhaled Corticosteroids Therapy

Over the last few decades, inhaled corticosteroids (ICs) became the cornerstone in the treatment of persistent asthma. Their use improved asthma control, decreased mortality and also minimized adverse reactions associated with systemic steroid. Esophageal candidiasis is a rare complication resulting from the use of ICs. Although, in recent years, as their prescriptions has increased, more cases have been reported, especially in Japan. Listed are 4 case reports regarding esophageal candidiasis in asthmatic patients associated with inhaled budesonide administration. In the cases reported herein, the use of a different device of dry powder budesonide might have favored esophageal drug deposition and Candida infection. Patients denied using systemic corticosteroids in the previous 6 months. Furthermore, none of the patients presented Diabetes mellitus, malignant disease, HIV infection, or other immunosuppressive conditions. We conclude that patients treated with high doses of ICs are at higher risk of developing esophageal candidiasis. These patients should undergo upper gastrointestinal endoscopy whenever they present symptoms. Nevertheless, we must keep in mind that infection might also be asymptomatic and esophageal candidiasis prevalence may be higher than that reported thus far.

Diagnosis and treatment of odontogenic cutaneous sinus tracts of endodontic origin: three case studies

To describe three cases of extraoral sinus tracts, related to infected teeth, which were initially misdiagnosed as skin lesions and inappropriately treated. The extraoral sinus tracts were initially misdiagnosed as skin lesions. Dermatological surgery was performed and antibiotics prescribed but the lesions did not resolve. Then, a dental cause was sought, and identified. Endodontic intervention resulted in resolution of the problem, confirming the initial misdiagnosis. center dot Dermatologists and other medical practitioners should be aware that dental extraoral sinus tracts can be confused with skin lesions. center dot A dental aetiology, as part of a differential diagnosis, should be kept in mind with oro-facial skin lesions. center dot If an extraoral sinus tract is of endodontic origin, then elimination of infection through effective endodontic treatment will lead to resolution of the sinus tract. center dot Early correct diagnosis can prevent unnecessary and ineffective antibiotic therapy and/or surgical intervention.
