Una práctica inconstante: la vacunación contra la viruela en el Alicante del siglo XIX

España no pudo asegurar la vacunación de toda su población infantil durante el siglo XIX. En este trabajo nos ocupamos de las causas de este fracaso utilizando como estudio de caso la ciudad de Alicante. Las principales causas de la inconstante práctica de la vacunación en Alicante fueron la ausencia de servicios sanitarios adecuados, la oposición o la negligencia de la población y algunos obstáculos técnicos.

Instrumentos y prácticas de enseñanza de las ciencias físicas y químicas en la Universidad de Valencia, durante el siglo XIX

This study is an attempt to reconstruct the evolution of spaces and scientific equipments used for the teaching of physics and chemistry in the University of Valencia in the 19th century. Through an analysis of the instruments' characteristics and their spatial distribution, the teaching programs and textbooks, as well as the profile of the target public, we try in this essay to understand the evolution of the didactic methods employed by the successive teachers and assistants when teaching physics and chemistry in the existing cabinets, amphitheatres and laboratories.

Ecos de Europa: la representación parlamentaria en el Chile liberal del siglo XIX

This paper explores the significant influences of European liberalism, and in particular French liberalism, in the Chilean thought and political culture/praxis during the construction of the State in the mid-19th century. It reveals and discusses the significant circulation of ideas that an array of Chilean travelers and exiles in several European countries generated and promoted in Chile in the middle of the 19th century. Among the intellectuals and politicians treated by this article are Andrés Bello, Manuel Antonio Tocornal, Santiago Arcos, Francisco Bilbao, Manuel Antonio Matta and Ángel Custodio Gallo.

La gastronomía en la prensa española del siglo XIX

En esta investigación, se ha analizado la gastronomía en la prensa española del siglo XIX a través del catálogo online de la Biblioteca Nacional. Los resultados, casi todos inéditos, revelan la importante presencia de la gastronomía en noticias, artículos y reportajes, y su desarrollo a partir de 1860, pero sobre todo en las dos últimas décadas de la centuria. Igualmente, ha sido posible plantear una categorización, así como esbozar parte de su historia y evolución en España.
