Valores sociales en los spots publicitarios de bebidas emitidos en España en 2006

El objetivo principal de este artículo es señalar los valores sociales presentes en los spots de bebidas emitidos por televisión, en España, durante el año 2006. Se estudian los valores sociales que transmiten los anuncios al margen de su función comercial. En total, se han analizado 191 spots; para los que se detallan los valores atribuidos al producto y al consumidor. La salud, la juventud, la importancia de las relaciones sociales o de construirse una personalidad genuina son algunos de los principales valores e ideales transmitidos a través de los spots sometidos a estudio.

Alterations in energy metabolism, neuroprotection and visual signal transduction in the retina of parkinsonian, MPTP-treated monkeys

Parkinson disease is mainly characterized by the degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the central nervous system, including the retina. Different interrelated molecular mechanisms underlying Parkinson disease-associated neuronal death have been put forward in the brain, including oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction. Systemic injection of the proneurotoxin 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) to monkeys elicits the appearance of a parkinsonian syndrome, including morphological and functional impairments in the retina. However, the intracellular events leading to derangement of dopaminergic and other retinal neurons in MPTP-treated animal models have not been so far investigated. Here we have used a comparative proteomics approach to identify proteins differentially expressed in the retina of MPTP-treated monkeys. Proteins were solubilized from the neural retinas of control and MPTP-treated animals, labelled separately with two different cyanine fluorophores and run pairwise on 2D DIGE gels. Out of >700 protein spots resolved and quantified, 36 were found to exhibit statistically significant differences in their expression levels, of at least ±1.4-fold, in the parkinsonian monkey retina compared with controls. Most of these spots were excised from preparative 2D gels, trypsinized and subjected to MALDI-TOF MS and LC-MS/MS analyses. Data obtained were used for protein sequence database interrogation, and 15 different proteins were successfully identified, of which 13 were underexpressed and 2 overexpressed. These proteins were involved in key cellular functional pathways such as glycolysis and mitochondrial electron transport, neuronal protection against stress and survival, and phototransduction processes. These functional categories underscore that alterations in energy metabolism, neuroprotective mechanisms and signal transduction are involved in MPTPinduced neuronal degeneration in the retina, in similarity to mechanisms thought to underlie neuronal death in the Parkinson’s diseased brain and neurodegenerative diseases of the retina proper.

Comparing the distribution of the electronic gap of an organic molecule with its photoluminescence spectrum

The electronic gap structure of the organic molecule N,N′-diphenyl-N,N′-bis(3-methylphenyl)-(1,1′-biphenyl)-4,4′-diamine, also known as TPD, has been studied by means of a Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM) and by Photoluminescence (PL) analysis. Hundreds of current-voltage characteristics measured at different spots of the sample show the typical behavior of a semiconductor. The analysis of the curves allows to construct a gap distribution histogram which reassembles the PL spectrum of this compound. This analysis demonstrates that STM can give relevant information, not only related to the expected value of a semiconductor gap but also on its distribution which affects its physical properties such as its PL.

Colour morphotypes of Elysia timida (Sacoglossa, Gastropoda) are determined by light acclimation in food algae

Elysia timida (Risso, 1818) colonizing the shallow waters of the Mar Menor Lagoon (Spain) exhibit a brown and a green morph. It was hypothesised that these morphs were the result of feeding preferentially on brown and green algae, respectively. E. timida and its potential food sources, Acetabularia acetabulum (Chlorophyta) and Halopteris filicina (Heterokontophyta) were collected by snorkelling during April 2010. Photosynthetic pigments were analysed by HPLC, photo-physiological parameters were estimated by PAM fluorometry and body colour was characterized by spectral reflectance. Digital photography was used to count the number and area of red spots (small red dots on the slug’s surface) on the parapodia of the 2 morphs. In the laboratory, green E. timida was fed with A. acetabulum cultured under 2 light treatments (high light, 600 µmol E m−2 s−1 and low light, 40 µmol E m−2 s−1), and digital photography was used to monitor colour alterations in E. timida. Spectral reflectance confirmed the colour differences, but both morphs showed a pigment composition similar to the green alga A. acetabulum and showed none of the pigments present in the brown alga H. filicina, neither immediately after collection of the slugs in situ, nor after the feeding experiment. A. acetabulum grown under high light intensity changed from green to brown colour and E. timida changed to brown colour when fed with high-light acclimated A. acetabulum. Thus, E. timida colour differences could not be attributed to feeding on different algae groups but was likely the result of feeding on A. acetabulum growing under different light intensities.

Personas mayores y publicidad: representaciones de género en televisión

Esta investigación analiza la representación de los mayores en la publicidad televisiva española desde un enfoque de género. Se examina el contenido de 2065 spots de la franja horaria de máxima audiencia durante una semana en 2008 y de cinco cadenas españolas (TVE 1, La 2, Tele 5, Antena 3 y Cuatro). Los resultados revelan que las mujeres mayores están infrarrepresentadas en comparación con los datos demográficos. Igualmente los personajes femeninos y masculinos se muestran con características asociadas al estereotipo de género. Las conclusiones de este estudio están en consonancia con investigaciones previas de otros países. Entre las implicaciones destacan aquellas que atienden a la aplicación de un modelo más igualitario bajo la consideración de sus posibles efectos en el objetivo de la publicidad.

Haloferax mediterranei GlnK proteins are post-translationally modified by uridylylation

In this work we report for the first time a post-translational modification of PII homologues from the Archaea Domain. Haloferax mediterranei is the first haloarchaea whose PII proteins have been studied, it possesses two of them (GlnK1 and GlnK2), both encoded adjacent to a gene for the ammonia transporter Amt. An approach based on 2DE, anti-GlnK immunoblot and peptide mass fingerprint (MALDI-TOF-MS) of the reactive spots showed that GlnK proteins in H. mediterranei are post-translationally uridylylated. A third spot with lower pI suggests the existence of a non-descript post-translational modification in this protein family.

Los planos del concurso para la ciudad de vacaciones Playa de San Juan en 1933

En 1933 se celebra el concurso de anteproyectos para la primera ciudad turística de España. Las bases de la convocatoria exigían una extensa documentación: planes, planos y perspectivas. El análisis de la propuesta vencedora —muy sensible a las preexistencias— pone de relieve la secuencia que liga la geografía con la ordenación urbana gracias al pensamiento y a las herramientas gráficas. Primero, se dibuja el territorio levantando acta del mismo recurriendo a los diagramas. Segundo, los datos y las vocaciones del suelo se transforman en una trama urbana zonificada en el espacio y programada en el tiempo. Y tercero, la fotografía del paisaje sugiere los enclaves panorámicos y algunas de las arquitecturas clave. En este hito de la planificación se dan cita las modernas técnicas gráficas y fotográficas que interactúan con el urbanismo moderno del zoning.

Subwavelength Bessel beams in wire media

Recent progress is emerging on nondiffracting subwavelength fields propagating in complex plasmonic nanostructures. In this paper, we present a thorough discussion on diffraction-free localized solutions of Maxwell’s equations in a periodic structure composed of nanowires. This self-focusing mechanism differs from others previously reported, which lie on regimes with ultraflat spatial dispersion. By means of the Maxwell–Garnett model, we provide a general analytical expression of the electromagnetic fields that can propagate along the direction of the cylinder’s axis, keeping its transverse waveform unaltered. Numerical simulations based on the finite element method support our analytical approach. In particular, moderate filling fractions of the metallic composite lead to nonresonant-plasmonic spots of light propagating with a size that remains far below the limit of diffraction.

Comparación entre la publicidad televisiva y la publicidad en Internet de bebidas espirituosas

La publicidad de bebidas espirituosas ha sufrido a lo largo del tiempo diversas prohibiciones al tratarse de un producto que genera efectos nocivos para la salud. La televisión fue desde 1957 hasta 1994 el medio natural de las marcas de bebidas espirituosas para publicitarse. El artículo 5 de la Ley 34/1988, 11 de noviembre, General de Publicidad, prohíbe la publicidad en televisión de bebidas con graduación alcohólica superior a 20 grados. En la actualidad, las marcas del sector han encontrado otro medio de comunicación, internet, donde difunden spots con el mismo formato y contenido que los emitidos en televisión. De esta forma, han encontrado una vía diferente para alcanzar a un público en su mayoría adolescente. Se ha realizado una comparación que demuestra la similitud en la publicidad de las marcas de bebidas espirituosas en ambos medios de comunicación, quedando en evidencia la obsoleta regulación publicitaria que existe en internet con respecto a este tipo de producto.
