Glycine-derived azlactones react with maleimides using (S)- or (R)-dimeric BinapAuTFA complexes affording the corresponding cycloadducts in good yields and high enantioselections (up to 99% ee). The intermediate carboxylic acids are treated with trimethylsilyldiazomethane and isolated as Δ¹-pyrroline methyl esters. These cycloadducts are transformed into exo-proline derivatives by reduction with NaBH3CN in acidic media. On the other hand, N-benzoylalanine-derived oxazolone reacts with tert-butyl acrylate providing the cycloadduct with the ester group at the 3-position with a trans-relative configuration with respect to the methyl ester group.

The stabilization of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) sheets in aqueous dispersion using a wide range of surfactants of anionic, non-ionic and zwitterionic type has been investigated and compared under different conditions of pH, surfactant and RGO concentration, or sheet size. The observed differences in the performance of the surfactants were rationalized on the basis of their chemical structure (e.g., alkylic vs. aromatic hydrophobic tail or sulfonic vs. carboxylic polar head), thus providing a reference framework in the selection of appropriate surfactants for the processing of RGO suspensions towards particular purposes. RGO-surfactant composite paper-like films were also prepared through vacuum filtration of the corresponding mixed dispersions and their main characteristics were investigated. The composite paper-like films were also electrochemically characterized. Those prepared with two specific surfactants exhibited a high capacitance in relation to their surfactant-free counterpart.

Dimeric anthracenyldimethyl-derived Cinchona ammonium salts are used as chiral organocatalysts in 5 mol% for the phase-transfer enantioselective alkylation reaction of 2-alkoxycarbonyl-1-indanones with activated bromides. The corresponding adducts bearing a new all-carbon quaternary center are obtained usually in high yield and with moderate and opposite enantioselectivity (up to 55%) when using ammonium salts derived from quinidine and its pseudoenantiomer quinine as organocatalysts. These catalysts can be almost quantitatively recovered by precipitation in ether and reused.

In this work we demonstrate the efficiency of some dimeric [Ln4(H2O)6(β-GeW10O38)2]12− anions composed of lanthanide-stabilised dilacunary Keggin tungstogermanate fragments (ββ-Ln4, Ln = Dy, Ho, Er, Tm) as heterogeneous catalysts for the organic phase oxidation of aniline with hydrogen peroxide. The results obtained evidence total conversion of aniline at room temperature, as well as full selectivity towards nitrosobenzene, and the catalysts are able to retain both their activity and selectivity after several runs. Peroxopolyoxometalate intermediaries have been identified as the catalytically active species during the aniline-to-nitrosobenzene oxidation process.
