Two studies investigated the context deletion effect, the attenuation of priming in implicit memory tests of words when words have been studied in text rather than in isolation. In Experiment 1, stem completion for single words was primed to a greater extent by words studied alone than in sentence contexts, and a higher proportion of completions from studied words was produced under direct instructions (cued recall) than under indirect instructions (produce the first completion that comes to mind). The effect of a sentence context was eliminated when participants were instructed to attend to the target word during the imagery generation task used in the study phase. In Experiment 2, the effect of a sentence context at study was reduced when the target word was presented in distinctive format within the sentence, and the study task (grammatical judgment) was directed at a word other than the target. The results implicate conceptual and perceptual processes that distinguish a word from its context in priming in word stem completion.

We find necessary and sufficient conditions for completing an arbitrary 2 by n latin rectangle to an n by n symmetric latin square, for completing an arbitrary 2 by n latin rectangle to an n by n unipotent symmetric latin square, and for completing an arbitrary 1 by n latin rectangle to an n by n idempotent symmetric latin square. Equivalently, we prove necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of an (n - 1)-edge colouring of K-n (n even), and for an n-edge colouring of K-n (n odd) in which the colours assigned to the edges incident with two vertices are specified in advance.

Grove, Gillam, and Ono [Grove, P. M., Gillam, B. J., & Ono, H. (2002). Content and context. of monocular regions determine perceived depth in random dot, unpaired background and phantom stereograms. Vision Research, 42, 1859-1870] reported that perceived depth in monocular gap stereograms [Gillam, B. J., Blackburn, S., & Nakayama, K. (1999). Stereopsis based on monocular gaps: Metrical encoding of depth and slant without matching contours. Vision Research, 39, 493-502] was attenuated when the color/texture in the monocular gap did not match the background. It appears that continuation of the gap with the background constitutes an important component of the stimulus conditions that allow a monocular gap in an otherwise binocular surface to be responded to as a depth step. In this report we tested this view using the conventional monocular gap stimulus of two identical grey rectangles separated by a gap in one eye but abutting to form a solid grey rectangle in the other. We compared depth seen at the gap for this stimulus with stimuli that were identical except for two additional small black squares placed at the ends of the gap. If the squares were placed stereoscopically behind the rectangle/gap configuration (appearing on the background) they interfered with the perceived depth at the gap. However when they were placed in front of the configuration this attenuation disappeared. The gap and the background were able under these conditions to complete amodally. (c) 2006 Elsevier Ltd. We completed the genome sequence of Lettuce necrotic yellows virus (LNYV) by determining the nucleotide sequences of the 4a (putative phosphoprotein), 4b, M (matrix protein), G (glycoprotein) and L (polymerase) genes. The genome consists of 12,807 nucleotides and encodes six genes in the order 3' leader-N-4a(P)-4b-M-G-L-5' trailer. Sequences were derived from clones of a cDNA library from LNYV genomic RNA and from fragments amplified using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. The 4a protein has a low isoelectric point characteristic for rhabdovirus phosphoproteins. The 4b protein has significant sequence similarities with the movement proteins of capillo- and trichoviruses and may be involved in cell-to-cell movement. The putative G protein sequence contains a predicted 25 amino acids signal peptide and endopeptidase cleavage site, three predicted glycosylation sites and a putative transmembrane domain. The deduced L protein sequence shows similarities with the L proteins of other plant rhabdoviruses and contains polymerase module motifs characteristic for RNA-dependent RNA polymerases of negative-strand RNA viruses. Phylogenetic analysis of this motif among rhabdoviruses placed LNYV in a group with other sequenced cytorhabdoviruses, most closely related to Strawberry crinkle virus. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. We examine the current workflow modelling capability from a new angle and demonstrate a weakness of current workflow specification languages in relation to execution of activities. This shortcoming is mainly due to serious limitations of the corresponding computational/execution model behind the business process modelling language constructs. The main purpose of this paper is the introduction of new specification/modelling constructs allowing for more precise representation of complex activity states during its execution. This new concept enables visibility of a new activity state–partial completion of activity, which in turn allows for a more flexible and precise enforcement/monitoring of automated business processes.

This study examined the effectiveness of the Triple P-Positive Parenting Program in a government child health service delivery context with Chinese parents in Hong Kong. Specifically, the study sought to identify pre-intervention variables that might predict programme outcomes such as, level of clinical improvement and programme completion. Participants were 661 parents of pre-school and primary aged children participating in a group version of the Triple P-Positive Parenting Program. There were significant decreases in disruptive child behaviours, levels of parenting stress, general stress and anxiety and an increase in parenting sense of competence. Greater change in reports of child behaviour problems was related to lower levels of family income, new immigrant family status, and higher pre-intervention levels of parenting stress. The present study provides a profile of parents who are most likely to benefit from parent training programmes.
