The E7 transforming protein of Human Papillomavirus type 16 (HPV16) is expressed in the skin of a line of RIB mice transgenic for the E6 and E7 open reading frames of HPV16 driven from the alpha A crystallin promoter (FVB alpha AcryHPV16E6E7). We have transferred skin from FVB alpha AcryHPV16E6E7 mice to naive or E7-primed syngeneic NE recipients to assess whether the E7 protein of HPV16 can function as a minor transplantation antigen (MTA) and promote skin graft rejection. FVB mice did not reject E7 expressing tail or flank skin grafts. E7 immunized FVB x C57BL/6J mice recipients of FVB alpha AcryHPV16E6E7 x C57BL/6J skin generated humoral and DTH responses to E7 in vivo and E7-specific CTL precursors in the spleen, but failed to reject 57 expressing tail skin grafts by 100 days posttransfer. Thus although HPV16 E7 + ve mesenchymal and endodermal tumors can be eliminated by an E7-specific immune response, the same protein is unable to act as a MTA and promote graft rejection when expressed in skin cells. Lack of rejection of grafts expressing MTAs such as E7 may be relevant to the immunology of epithelial tumors expressing tumor-specific antigens and to our understanding of the immunology of diseases of the skin. Background. The formation and measurement of self-concept were the foci of this research. Aims. The study aimed to investigate the influence of achievement on academic self-concept and to compare the Perception of Ability Scale for Students (PASS, Boersma & Chapman, 1992) with the Self-Description Questionnaire-1 (SDQ-1, Marsh, 1988). Sample. The participants were 479 grade 5 (mean age 126.6 months) coeducational Australian students, located in 18 schools. Method. An intra-class research design was used to investigate the influence of frame-of-reference on self-concept development. Results. As students' academic scores rose above their class mean their self-concepts increased and as students' academic scores fell below their class mean their self-concepts decreased. Students' difference from class mean predicted their self-concept scores. This finding was consistently shown across the reading, spelling, and mathematics domains using test and teaching rating data. A comparison between the PASS and the SDQ-1 demonstrated concurrent validity across self-concept domains. Conclusion. The findings support the notions that the social environment is a significant agent that influences self-concept, and that teacher ratings and standardised tests of achievement and the PASS and the SDQ-1 are valid measures for self-concept research.

Like previous volumes in the Educational Innovation in Economics and Business Series, this book is genuinely international in terms of its coverage. With contributions from nine different countries and three continents, it reflects a global interest in, and commitment to, innovation in business education, with a view to enhancing the learning experience of both undergraduates and postgraduates. It should prove of value to anyone engaged directly in business education, defined broadly to embrace management, finance, marketing, economics, informational studies, and ethics, or who has responsibility for fostering the professional development of business educators.
