Highly selective N-type voltage-gated calcium (Ca-V) channel inhibitors from cone snail venom (the omega-conotoxins) have emerged as a new class of therapeutics for the treatment of chronic and neuropathic pain. Earlier in 2005, Prialt ( Elan) or synthetic omega-conotoxin MVIIA, was the first omega-conotoxin to be approved by Food and Drug Administration for human use. This review compares the action of three omega-conotoxins, GVIA, MVIIA and CVID, describing their structure-activity relationships and potential as leads for the design of improved N-type therapeutics that are more useful in the treatment of chronic pain.

An edge-colored graph is a graph H together with a function f:E(H) → C where C is a set of colors. Given an edge-colored graph H, the graph induced by the edges of color c C is denoted by H(c). Let G, H, and J be graphs and let μ be a positive integer. A (J, H, G, μ) edge-colored graph decomposition is a set S = {H 1,H 2,...,H t} of edge-colored graphs with color set C = {c 1, c 2,..., c k} such that Hi ≅ H for 1 ≤ i ≤ t; Hi (cj) ≅ G for 1 ≤ i ≤ t and ≤ j ≤ k; and for j = 1, 2,..., k, each edge of J occurs in exactly μ of the graphs H 1(c j ), H 2(c j ),..., H t (c j ). Let Q 3 denote the 3-dimensional cube. In this paper, we find necessary and sufficient conditions on n, μ and G for the existence of a (K n ,Q 3,G, μ) edge-colored graph decomposition. © Birkhäuser Verlag, Basel 2007.

A solution of fac-[PtMe2(OMe)(H2O)(3)](+) (1) in aqueous perchloric acid underwent very slow hydrolysis of the Pt-OMe bond, over many, weeks. When chloride was added to a solution of 1, two interconverting isomers of [PtMe2(OMe)Cl(H2O)(2)] (with chloride trans to methyl) were formed, and with excess chloride, [PtMe2(OMe)Cl-2(H2O)](-) (both chloride ligands trans to methyl). This solution was stable at ambient temperature, but on heating, methanol was formed and [PtMe2Cl2(H2O)(2)] (both chloride ligands cis to methyl) was produced in the solution. It is proposed that this reaction proceeds via an intermediate complex with chloride bound trans to methoxide. Concentration gave solid [{PtMe2Cl2}n], whose identity was confirmed by conversion to [PtMe(2)Cl(2)py(2)] (pyridine, py, trans to methyl). With bromide and iodide, methoxide hydrolysis occurred at ambient temperature, more slowly with bromide than with iodide, to form solid [{PtMe2X2}(n)] without significant concentrations of [PtMe2X2(H2O)(2)] formed as an intermediate. The greater tendency for Pt-OMe bond to hydrolyse trans to halide compared with 1 was ascribed to the higher trans effect of the halide ligand compared with that of water. Experimental studies on phase equilibria in the multi-component system PbO-ZnO-CaO-SiO2-FeO-Fe2O3 in air have been conducted to characterize the phase relations of a complex slag system used in the oxidation smelting of lead and in typical lead blast furnace sinters. The liquidus in two pseudoternary sections ZnO-Fe2O3-(PbO + CaO + SiO2) with the CaO/SiO2 weight ratio of 0.1 and the PbO/(CaO + SiO2) weight ratio of 6.2, and with CaO/SiO2 weight ratio of 0.6 and the PbO/(CaO + SiO2) weight ratio of 4.3, have been constructed.

In this Erratum, we point out the reason for an error in the derivation of a result in our earlier paper, “Two-Dimensional Failure Modeling with Minimal Repair” [1], which appeared in the April 2004 issue of this journal, 51:3, on pages 345–362, and give the correct derivation.
