General population abstract

Minorities constitute 31.0 percent of South Carolina's population, with African Americans representing 96.1 percent of all minorities in the State. With such a large minority population, it is imperative that information regarding the socio-economic status of minorities and their contribution to the overall socio-economic prosperity of the State be well researched and documented. This report and subsequent documents published by the Commission, will provide data that will be useful in determining the best way to disperse limited state and federal resources and implement new and better targeted public policy initiatives.

South Carolina’s Arts In Basic Curriculum Project : A History 1987-2007

The Arts in Basic Curriculum (ABC) Project is a multifaceted initiative that has positively impacted arts education in South Carolina and the nation. Founded in 1987 the ABC Project has become a national model and influenced the advancement of education in and through the arts with a multitude of programs, models, and schemes. This is an overview of the full history. Parts I and II will chronicle events that were foundational to the project from inception in 1987 to the celebration of its 20th anniversary in 2007. Part III gives detailed descriptions of ten of the most important facets of the project.

South Carolina’s Creative Cluster : A Catalyst for Economic Development

This report presents results from a study of the creative economy associated with the arts, design, crafts and related activities in South Carolina. As this report will show, these creative individuals and enterprises exert a strong impact on the state’s economic base. Like other drivers of the regional economy, this creative activity revolves around a cluster, or a set of interrelated industries, that thrive in tandem. This Resource Manual provides a listing of programs and services various state agencies offer. These programs and services include alcohol and substance abuse treatment, victim assistance, financial services, educational services, disabilities and special needs, insurance services, youth programs, business enterprise development, etc.
