Disparity energy models (DEMs) estimate local depth information on the basis ofVl complex cells. Our recent DEM (Martins et al, 2011 ISSPlT261-266) employs a population code. Once the population's cells have been trained with randorn-dot stereograms, it is applied at all retinotopic positions in the visual field. Despite producing good results in textured regions, the model needs to be made more precise, especially at depth transitions.

Human-robot interaction is an interdisciplinary research area which aims at integrating human factors, cognitive psychology and robot technology. The ultimate goal is the development of social robots. These robots are expected to work in human environments, and to understand behavior of persons through gestures and body movements. In this paper we present a biological and realtime framework for detecting and tracking hands. This framework is based on keypoints extracted from cortical V1 end-stopped cells. Detected keypoints and the cells’ responses are used to classify the junction type. By combining annotated keypoints in a hierarchical, multi-scale tree structure, moving and deformable hands can be segregated, their movements can be obtained, and they can be tracked over time. By using hand templates with keypoints at only two scales, a hand’s gestures can be recognized.

Soluções de realidade virtual e aumentada têm vindo a ser utilizadas no segmento de ensino explorando diferentes modalidades de interação de forma a proporcionar ao aluno acesso efetivo de informação em situações de experiências imersivas em tempo real. Na internet podemos encontrar variadíssimas aplicações educacionais, que nos ajudam a todos, desde as crianças em idade escolar até a profissionais de todas as áreas, proporcionando o estudo mais interativo, divertido e mais envolvente. Neste artigo, onde assumimos que o contexto de ensino é propício para a experimentação de novos modelos de ensino/aprendizagem, apresentamos uma aplicação educacional na área da geometria com o objetivo de potencializar a transferência de conhecimento, salientando as características dimensionais dos sólidos.

The automatic implementation of decoders for a visual perception is achieved as follows. The action described by a production rule is realized by means of the decoder in which a pattern of connections coreesponds to that of stimuli. According to "S.Karasawa,(Proc. of CCCT, Vol.5, pp.194-1999, Austin, Texas, August, 2004)", each program mable controllable connection among inputs is realized by a floating gate avalanche injection MOS FET, where inverted signals are used at writing, and the detection of matching between inputs and connections is carried out by using the signal source in which low level signal is provided via comparatively smaller resistance than high level.
