Hydrothermal synthesis and characterization of ZSM-5 coatings on a molybdenum support and scale-up for application in micro reactors

A procedure has been developed to grow ZSM-5 crystals in situ on a molybdenum (Mo) support. The high heat conductivity (138 W/mK) and high mechanical stability at elevated temperatures of the Mo support allow the application of ZSM-5 coatings in micro reactors for high temperature processes involving large heat effects. The effect of the synthesis mixture composition on ZSM-5 coverage and on the uniformity of the ZSNI-5 coatings was investigated on plates of 10 X 10 mm(2). Ratios of H2O/Si = 50, SUAI = 25, and TPA/Al = 2.0 were found to be optimal for the formation of uniform coatings of 6 g/m(2) at a temperature of 150 degrees C and a synthesis time of 48 h. Optical follow-up of GRB 970508

We report on the results of optical follow-up observations of the counterpart of the gamma-ray burst GRB 970508, starting 7 hr after the event. Multicolor U-, B-, V-, R-c-, and I-c-band observations were obtained during the first three consecutive nights. The counterpart was monitored regularly in R-c, until similar to 4 months after the burst. The light curve after the maximum follows a decline that can be fitted with a power law with exponent alpha = -1.141 +/- 0.014. Deviations from a smooth power-law decay are moderate (rms = 0.15 mag). We find no flattening of the light curve at late times. The optical afterglow fluence is a significant fraction, similar to 5%, of the GRB fluence. The optical energy distribution can be well represented by a power law, the slope of which changed at the time of the maximum (the spectrum became redder).

Sexing up the city in the international beauty contest: the performative nature of spatial planning and the fictive spectacle of place branding

This paper responds to recent calls for more academic research and critical discussion on the relationship between spatial planning and city branding. Through the lens of Liverpool, the article analyses how key planning projects have delivered major transformations in the city's built environment and cultural landscape. More specifically, in concentrating on the performative nature of spatial planning it reveals the physical, symbolic and discursive re-imaging of Liverpool into a 'world class city'. Another aspect of the paper presents important socioeconomic datasets and offers a critical reading of the re-branding in showing how it presents an inaccurate representation of Liverpool. The evidence provided indicates that a more accurate label for Liverpool is a polarised and divided city, thereby questioning the fictive spectacle of city branding. Finally, the paper ends with some critical commentary on the role of spatial planning as an accessory to the sophistry of city branding.
