The article presented to Malraux specialists the conclusions and findings of the international conference on André Malraux held at Queen's University Belfast in 2007.

Les vies et les carrières d’André Chamson et d’André Malraux se ressemblent par de multiples aspects. Contemporains, ils se connaissaient bien, menaient souvent les mêmes combats, souffraient des mêmes préoccupations, Mais c’est surtout par rapport à l’esprit qui les animait, en tant que grandes personnalités marquantes du XXe siècle, que d’intéressants parallèles peuvent être établis entre eux, que nous pouvons avec profit examiner les valeurs universelles et spirituelles qu’ils promouvaient, valeurs emblématiques pour tant de penseurs, d’acteurs, et d’écrivains de ce siècle. Ainsi pourrions-nous par ailleurs interroger et même évaluer la solidité, la résistance et le potentiel de telles valeurs pour le siècle à venir.

Receptor binding and biologic activity of synthetic ET-1 peptides in the retinal pericyte

Purpose. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of synthetic endothelin (ET)-1 peptides with antigenic potential for binding and biologic activity using an in vitro model of microvascular pericytes.

The GAL genetic switch: visualisation of the interacting proteins by split-EGFP bimolecular fluorescence complementation

A split-EGFP bimolecular fluorescence complementation assay was used to visualise and locate three interacting pairs of proteins from the GAL genetic switch of the budding yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Both the Gal4p-Gal80p and Gal80p-Gal3p pairs were found to be located in the nucleus under inducing conditions. However, the Gal80p-Gal1p complex was located throughout the cell. These results support recent work establishing an initial interaction between Gal3p and Gal80p occurring in the nucleus. Labelling of all three protein pairs impaired the growth of the yeast strains and resulted in reduced galactokinase activity in cell extracts. The most likely cause of this impairment is decreased dissociation rates of the complexes, caused by the essentially irreversible reassembly of the EGFP fragments. This suggests that a fully functional GAL genetic switch requires dynamic interactions between the protein components. These results also highlight the need for caution in the interpretation of in vivo split-EGFP experiments.
