Time operators for one parameter semigroups

We develop two simple approaches to the construction of time operators for semigroups of continuous linear operators in Hilbert spaces provided that the generators of these semigroups are normal operators. The first approach enables us to give explicit formulas (in the spectral representations) both for the time operators and for their eigenfunctions. The other approach provides no explicit formula. However, it enables us to find necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of time operators for semigroups of continuous linear operators in separable Hilbert spaces with normal generators. Time superoperators corresponding to unitary groups are also discussed.

Extrinsic parameter extraction and RF modelling of CMOS

An analytical approach for CMOS parameter extraction which includes the effect of parasitic resistance is presented. The method is based on small-signal equivalent circuit valid in all region of operation to uniquely extract extrinsic resistances, which can be used to extend the industry standard BSIM3v3 MOSFET model for radio frequency applications. The verification of the model was carried out through frequency domain measurements of S-parameters and direct time domain measurement at 2.4 GHz in a large signal non-linear mode of operation. Methane transformation to carbon and hydrogen on Pd(100): Pathways and energetics from density functional theory calculations

Density functional theory with gradient corrections has been employed to study the reaction pathways and the reaction energetics for the transformations of CH4 to C and H on a Pd(100) surface. On examination of transition state structures identified in each elementary reaction, a clear relationship between the valencies of the CHx fragments and the locations of the transition states emerges. The higher the valency of the CHx fragment, the higher the coordination number of the CHx with the surface atoms. The calculated reaction energetics are in good agreement with the experiments. In addition, calculation results are also used to illustrate an interesting issue concerning the CH3 stability on Pd surfaces. (C) 2002 American Institute of Physics.

Drawing on research in Northern Ireland into the process of release under the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement, this article explores the identification and classification of risk in relation to prisoners released early under the Sentences (NI) Act. The main argument is that conflict, post-conflict and transitional conditions expose more starkly the political underpinnings of risk-management strategy and the article demonstrates the particular variant of Politicized Risk Assessment (PRA) recently used in the release of prisoners in Northern Ireland
