The association of intraocular tumours and glaucoma has long been recognised. We report a case of localised iris melanoma previously treated with iridiocyclectomy and later requiring enucleation for the uncontrolled glaucoma and possible recurrence of diffuse iris melanoma. We discuss the diagnostic difficulties due to increase in iris pigmentation associated with the use of latanoprost and the management options of patients with intraocular tumour and secondary glaucoma.

This paper shows a simple, yet highly effective, tracking phase locked loop circuit which has applications for self steered antenna arrays. The tracking PLL has been demonstrated to accurately phase track signal levels as low as -120 dBm, making it suitable for applications such as SATCOM ground terminals. The implementation is simple requiring a low Q voltage controlled oscillator, a downconverting mixer and a PLL circuit.

We present the probable ground-based detection of the secondary eclipse of the transiting exoplanet WASP-19b. The observations were made in the Sloan z'-band using the ULTRACAM triple-beam CCD camera mounted on the NTT. The measurement shows a 1±0.2mmag eclipse depth, consistent with a dayside temperature of 2900K, matching previous predictions based on H- and K-band measurements. However, since this is based on a single observation, the eclipse depth - at the moment - is not particularly well constrained, and would benefit from additional observations at similar wavelengths. Our technique for the data reduction and analysis is described, along with our approach to dealing with systematic errors associated with ground-based secondary eclipse observations.

The secondary stars in cataclysmic variables (CVs) are key to our understanding of the origin evolution and behaviour of this class of interacting binary. In seeking a fuller understanding of these objects the challenge for observers is to obtain images of the secondary star. This goal can be achieved through Roche tomography an indirect imaging technique that can be used to map the Roche-lobe-filling secondary star. The review begins with a description of the basic principles that underpin Roche tomography including methods for determining the binary system parameters. Noise propagation onto Roche tomograms is also covered. Finally the review concludes with a look at the main scientific highlights to date and the future prospects for Roche tomography
