Network analysis is distinguished from traditional social science by the dyadic nature of the standard data set. Whereas in traditional social science we study monadic attributes of individuals, in network analysis we study dyadic attributes of pairs of individuals. These dyadic attributes (e.g. social relations) may be represented in matrix form by a square 1-mode matrix. In contrast, the data in traditional social science are represented as 2-mode matrices. However, network analysis is not completely divorced from traditional social science, and often has occasion to collect and analyze 2-mode matrices. Furthermore, some of the methods developed in network analysis have uses in analysing non-network data. This paper presents and discusses ways of applying and interpreting traditional network analytic techniques to 2-mode data, as well as developing new techniques. Three areas are covered in detail: displaying 2-mode data as networks, detecting clusters and measuring centrality.

In this paper, the application of a continuum model is presented, which deals with the discharge of multi-component granular mixtures in core flow mode. The full model description is given (including the constitutive models for the segregation mechanism) and the interactions between particles at the microscopic level are parametrised in order to predict the development of stagnant zone boundaries during core flow discharges. Finally, the model is applied to a real industrial problem and predictions are made for the segregation patterns developed during mixture discharge in core flow mode.

Reviews key proposals of a draft Bill set out in Command Paper: The Law Commission: Termination of Tenancies for Tenant Default (Cm.6946), aimed at replacing the existing law on forfeiture of tenancies. Summarises the main elements of the proposed termination action by landlords, the events justifying such an action, the time limits for serving default notices, the revised range of court orders available and the considerations influencing which type of order to make. Examines the position of qualifying interest holders and the circumstances in which summary termination notices are prohibited.

Discusses the remedies available to mortgage lenders when borrowers default on their mortgage repayments. Examines aspects of the mortgagee's duty of care to the mortgagor when choosing to sell the property in terms of the timing of the sale, the mode of sale, the price obtained, and the sale of a commercial property to a party associated with the mortgagor. A new technique for mode shape expansion in structural dynamic applications is presented based on the perturbed force vector approach. The proposed technique can directly adopt the measured incomplete modal data and include the effect of the perturbation between the analytical and test models. The results show that the proposed technique can provide very accurate expanded mode shapes, especially in cases when significant modelling error exists in the analytical model and limited measurements are available.

In this paper the dependence of the power consumption of pneumatic conveyors upon conveyed materials, pipeline route and bore, and mode of flow has been examined. The findings are that, with different materials and modes of flow, not only is the amount of power consumed very different but it varies in different ways with pipe bore and routing. Additionally it has been found that, for any given conveying system, the choice of air mover also has a strong influence on the power requirement.
