Jahrbuch der berufs- und wirtschaftspädagogischen Forschung 2016

Das Jahrbuch dokumentiert die Beiträge der im September 2015 durchgeführten Tagung der DGfE-Sektion Berufs- und Wirtschaftspädagogik und gibt damit Einblick in Diskussion und aktuellen Stand der Berufsbildungsforschung. In einem ersten Abschnitt widmet sich das Jahrbuch ausgewählten Fragestellungen der Organisation, Bedingungen und Strukturen der beruflichen Bildung, während im zweiten Abschnitt Beiträge zur beruflichen Lehr-Lern- und Unterrichtsforschung im Mittelpunkt stehen. Der Schwerpunkt des dritten Abschnitts liegt auf Fragen der Hochschul- und Lehrerbildungsforschung. Es folgen im vierten Teil zwei Beiträge zur Betrieblichen Aus- und Weiterbildung sowie zum Abschluss ein Überblick über die historische Schulbuchforschung für die berufliche Bildung. (DIPF/paul)

Newly qualified teachers’ needs of support for professional competences in four European countries: Finland, the United Kingdom, Portugal, and Belgium

The first few years in the teaching profession are usually demanding. Although initial teacher education forms an essential foundation for teachers’ work, it cannot fully prepare new teachers for the complexities of working life. This study focuses on investigating the need for professional development support among newly qualified teachers to determine what their professional learning needs are and how these needs differ among teachers from four different countries: Finland, the United Kingdom (England), Portugal and Belgium (Flanders). The research data was collected via a questionnaire from 314 teachers, each with less than five years of teaching experience, and both closed and open-ended questions were included. The quantitative data was analysed using descriptive statistics and factor analysis to identify the latent variables associated with their needs. Answers to the open-ended questions were used to gain deeper insight into the newly qualified teachers’ situation. The results indicate that new teachers need support, especially regarding conflict situations and in differentiating their teaching. In addition, when analysing the profiles of eight support-need latent variables, all of the teachers in the different countries viewed supporting students’ holistic development as the most important area. Although the results of this study cannot be generalised, they provide an important overview of new teachers’ learning needs that should be taken into account when planning and organising support for them. When theories become practice - a metaphorical analysis of adult-education school-leaders’ talk

Marketization has changed the education system. If we say that education is a market, this transforms the understanding of education and influences how people act. In this paper, adult-education school-leaders’ talk is analysed and seven metaphors for education are found: education as administration, market, matching, democracy, policy work, integration and learning. Exploring empirical metaphors provides a rich illustration of coinciding meanings. In line with studies on policy texts, economic metaphors are found to dominate. This should be understood not only as representing liberal ideology, as is often discussed in analyses of policy papers, but also as representing economic theory. In other words, contemporary adult education can be understood as driven by economic theories. The difference and relation between ideology and theory should be further examined since they have an impact on our society and on our everyday lives. (DIPF/Orig.)
